    When Pink Floyd recorded this, in the Pompei amphitheater there was nobody but the band, the production and a group of children who have sneaked in curious to discover the source of the strange sounds they heard, they passed all the day in the amphitheater listening to this guys and play, in some recordings you can hear their voices. 20-30 years later the director of the documentary returned to Naples and while he was walking around like a normal tourist, he was stopped by a man: he was one of those children. They became friends and now organize things like photographic exhibitions, tributes etc. to Pink Floyd.
    Fun fact: Lucio Dalla - a famous italian singer - when discovered that Pink Floyd would play in Pompeii, he did everything to be able to attend, he wanted at all costs to listen to Echoes live. So he call one of his friends and got a fake job as electrician who had to check the cable that carried energy to the amphitheater.

      @nicoladc89 Před 3 lety +3

      It was not empty, there were 12 children (there is their voices in some recordings) and some workers (one of those was Lucio Dalla, a famous italian singer, who pretended to be an electrician in order to listen to Echoes live).

      Non ero certamente presente all'epoca visto che vivevo a centinaia di km di distanza ed avevo 6 anni, ho letto che fuori dall'anfiteatro fossero presenti pure decine di persone in ascolto..comunque sia il che non toglie che si possa definire " vuoto " perché privo delle folle oceaniche dei loro abituali concerti.

      @williamwhelan997 Před 2 lety +3

      @@audreyplunkett6111 I like both, I think one thing the studio version definitely has, is it's audio quality, this version sounds a little iffy. However, the pompeii version highlights the fluidity of the band, Gilmour of course providing those licks, Rick playing responses to the notes Gilmour is playing, and I absolutely love seeing Nick Mason going harder on the drums, on most pink floyd tracks he is very conservative with his playing, which is good, however in this one he lets loose, and still does not drop a single beat or fall out of time, it's insane. Roger is not doing anything exceptional here, but the bassline services the song, that's all that matters really.
      Not to mention, you actually get to watch them doing all of this, it's truly amazing.

    1975. I was 14 years old (61 now). I had to go to a classmate's house to do some group schoolwork, dreading it because that day a new TV program about rock music was being premiered, they were broadcasting the entire Pompeii concert as an inaugural celebration, and I couldn't watch it. But I remember when I arrived home and my mom said she had seen it and was impressed. "Now that's music!", she said. My mom was 51 at the time and she usually HATED what was then contemporary music, saying "it's not music, it's just noise!" So, her comment was saying something! Decades later, when I got my first DVD player, my first DVD was the Pompeii concert, and I still love it! And "Echoes" is my favourite Pink Floyd song, too. (Again, this is saying something!) "Echoes" is a drug I'm addicted to, I get withdrawal symptoms when I don't listen to it for too long!

    Guys, if you do go to Pompeii, be sure to bring a recording of this video!!!
    Also, this film was made in 1971-2, and at that time there were a lot of movies coming out that were concerts, so a lot of groups were putting movies out showing their tours. So of course Pink Floyd had to show NO audience, contrary to what everybody else was doing. I also learned (From Director's Cut of this movie) that there were some young people that were allowed to stay in the exit tunnels to watch and listen, as long as they stayed out of camera view. It took 3 days to film, I would have been there every day, those lucky buggers!!!

    Hey guys since you just watched this Please even if you do not react to it. Listen to this song Live in Dansk. It was Richard Wrights last tour with the band before he passed. Trust me on this one. Do it while the studio version is still fresh.

    Guys, great work with the reactions.
    Please DON'T forget to review the ANIMALS album.. It's inspired from George Orwell's famous book: The Animal Farm.
    The representation of different ANIMALS for different classes of society remains relevant even today, maybe even more as time passes. Truly One-of-a-kind album...Not many people grasp it but I am sure you guys will.
    PIGS and DOGS are epic and outstanding pieces.
    Hoping for an upload of these masterpieces soon.
    FLOYD and ZEPPELIN will rule Hard Rock forever !!!

    When I saw you guys reacting to even the studio version of 'Echoes, I was struck by the fact that *I* as a 52 year old woman had exactly the same reaction to this song that you do.
    I was born in 1968, when my mother and father were only17 and 20, so I remember my dad bringing home Pink Floyd albums when they first came out.
    Certain music makes us feel like we are on drugs, even when we're not. THAT is the power of music.

    This live version of Echoes is a highly addictive drug. It's a sound that you will never forget, and worst of all... you will need to hear just to stay sane, alive. Seriously.

    For best results I recommend replacing your bulbs with black lights, smoke way more, add optional lava lamp, lightning globe or better yet a fish tank, order pizza before you melt, rinse and repeat.

    The angry human metronome that is Nick Mason,killing it here as are everyone in the band. Wonder what Syd Barrett would think about it. Can't wait for Part 2. Try A Saucerful Of Secrets live here as well, Great job guys!

    Pink Floyd...SO FAR ahead of their time they were social distancing 50 years ahead of us now !!! That's how good they were/are!!! Now go back and listen to the audio version again and listen for all the extra guitar work David does and Rick Wright...It is by far superior!!!
