Imagine being a 16 year-old, knowing very little of Pink Floyd's music (or anything else for that matter) going to an unfamiliar house, dropping acid for the very first time, and having this song coming through the surround sound speakers in a black light room. To say my mind was completely blown would be a vast understatement. I became completely obsessed with this album and this band, and have been for over forty years now.

For me it was magic mushrooms and an old battery operated cassette player with one cassette - DSOTM on one side and WYWH on the other. We were sat in a field on a summer evening tripped out of our trees, listening to those 2 albums over and over again and I think my brain was irrevocably changed that night. I went into that trip a child and came out of it a committed, obsessed, lifelong Floydian. Animals is definitely my favourite album though. I bought it the day it came out and I don't think a week has gone by since then that I haven't listened to it.

For me it was inhaling a hit of Orange Sunshine, a four way hit, mind you. About a minute later the dude dropped the needle on Echoes and I soared out of my body for the duration of the rest of the album. Been a die hard Pink Floyd fan ever since. To me David Gilmour represents the pinnacle of musicianship. What that man can do with one string,, bending it to its ultimate pitch is incredible. I was 21 back then, I’m 70 now and have requested that Pink Floyd be played at my memorial, having had to make those dreaded preparations due to a terminal illness. But I’m doing fine for now. Headphones are always within reach, Heaven at my command. đŸ„°â€ïž

Funny story here: I used to listen to this a lot when it was first released. One night I have it on and it gets to the part where the dogs are barking and howling. All of a sudden I hear howling coming from right next to me. I open my eyes to see my little shizu dog with her snout in the air howling her head off. She did it every time she heard this. She's been gone for years, but every time I hear this I remember my little loyal companion.

Animals is based on George Orwell's novella "Animal Farm". 1. "Pigs" - despotic dictators, politician, leaders; 2. "Dogs" - predatory owners, billioners, businessmen 3. "Sheep" - mindless common folk following leaders (religious, politicians... etc) "Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs"

I suspect most of us had that exact same experience you just did the first time we heard this. I know I did. Thank you for going back to Pink Floyd 2.0. There are three incarnations of Pink Floyd:
    1. Barrett PF = 1.0,
    2. Waters/Gilmour = 2.0, and
    3. Gilmour = 3.0
Every masterpiece story has 3 Acts and Pink Floyd is no exception. Personally, I find the lyrics to this song and the accompanying music is easily the Best of PF2.0... Gilmours & Waters voices, the lyrics, the Synth is just sick, Nick's precise, yet ever so deft, drum work are a Master Class in what beautiful music IS.
I love watching everyone breathing in Pink Floyd; but, you two are a pure joy to watch and listen to as Pink Floyd seeps into every molecule in your bodies... You have so much further to go young Padawans.
You need to listen to the whole album, Sheep and Pigs are just a smidgen behind Dogs. You need to explore "The Final Cut" any of these following songs are anazing:
    1. The Post War Dream (Waters)
    2. The Fletcher Memorial Home (Waters)
    3. The Final Cut (Waters)
    4. Not Now John (Gilmour)
    5. Two Suns in the Sunset (Waters)
Thank you for making this 52 year old relive his life altering dive into Pink Floyd...

This album is a true masterpiece. The song structures, the lyrics, the production, the artwork. Everything about it is incredible. Waaaaaay ahead of its time. There’s no way the member of Floyd are human. These guys are from some different kind of realm to write stuff like this. And the fact that they have so many incredible albums and each have such a unique sound and feeling behind them. Unbelievable what they have created. You can’t even pick a favourite because it’s impossible to as they are so different from each other. I go through phases where sometimes I’ll be hooked on animals, or the wall, or dsotm, or meddle, etc. For sometimes months to years even. it’s like going through revolving doors of epic ness. There’s a lot of great bands out there, but these guys are on a level on their own 100%.

The first time I saw them was 1987 Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in Austin TEXAS. I had been to a LOT of classic Rock concerts already and had never seen PINK FLOYD live. They were getting so much buzz for this tour I had to see it. I knew the music and I knew their stage show was legendary. I went. Still to this day best concert I’ve ever seen. They aren’t even my favorite band and I usually like harder Rock. These guys are UNTOUCHABLE live! Blew me away! It’s the best concert experience I think you can have. After all the shows, all the concerts I’ve seen, which is a fucking lot, this is still the best. They are that good live. Unbelievably excellent live. Everything moves, state of the art lighting of all different kinds and crazy ass big stage props you don’t see coming AND live Quadraphonic sound! We were in the upper mezzanine and there was one of the big speakers right behind our seats. They used this to make the sound better of course but to also track it around the arena. You heard the music concentrated in one spot going around the arena! So trippy! It was just next level. Nobody was doing what they were doing! State of the art production. Sonically and visually over loading. You don’t expect a mellow sounding band to be that fucking powerful live. And I’ve seen high power Hard Rock concerts that were all about power. It catches you off guard in the best way.
