- Well, you read the title correctly! Testing out the Fuji XH-2S with Zeiss Master Anamorphics!
Huge thanks to Glazers Camera for Sponsoring this video!

This is the video many X-H2S users have been waiting for. Thank you! 💥
@3:30 It could not have been said any better. You nailed it! That's precisely what I love about my FUJIFILM X-H1. The way it handles high ISO or noise grain is so organic for both video and stills. Great JOB! Subscribed!
Appreciate you big time!!
Hell yeah I love my xh2s, thanks for the video!
Finally! Thank you so much for this video.
By far the best footage of hx2s 🔥
Could not agree more with what you said at 3:50 to 4:00.. great video thanks for making it
I want more video on that little mirorless man… Like a direct comparison to FX3 by professionals like you :-)
Personally (someone shooting on a budget), I love this plus the 18-120mm + 2x anamorphic projector lens combo. Zoom, autofocus, and a bunch of other things in 2x anamorphic (accepting, of course, all the fun of using a projector lens like that). A killer combo for cheap filmmaking, IMHO.
The images produced looked amazing! Curious, would you advise to use a regular adapter over using something like a metabones speed booster when using full frame lenses? Thanks for the upload
So good
your test footage is hands down better than any other test footage I've seen on CZcams. most CZcamsrs don't know what angle the rim light is supposed to pointed towards the face to achieve your look. you also achieve cinematic lighting while outdoors by positioning the subject in the perfect spot good job! did you use any modifiers on the outdoor shots ? I'm assuming you didn't which is very impressive.
Hey hey. Thanks for the kind words. Galen did a great job shooting it. It was all just natural light.
Thank you for making this! It really shows A whole new vision of what can be created with this it’s so incredible!! Only wish it wasn’t $40k 😂
How do the Fujinon MKX Cinezooms compare in your opinion?
This is a really cool video, just for the sake of showing how good sensors can be in these small mirrorless bodies.
I owned this camera for awhile and ended up parting ways. It gave me issues with overheating when acting as a webcam. Which was one of the reasons I purchased it. I wanted something small/light for travel that I could also use when live streaming as I hate the built in camera on MBPs.
Your images don’t look overly sharpened… which was one of my biggest complaints about this camera. I’d be curious to learn how you took the edge off the image. I think you struck a good balance of modern, without being too video looking. Please share.
Great content, looking forward to seeing more!
Amazed to read about overheating. Did you attach the Fuji fan unit? What ambient were you in? And what codec were you running. I find it difficult to imagine that this camera would overheat as a webcam.
This is AMAZING ! I will take this for a ride to a new music video shooting soon . Which adapter did you use ? Open gate 6k ? Thx !
Continuing to drop the videos that people want to see - well done! The footage looks fantastic. That camera is a bargain for the image quality. Your D.P. and those lenses made it shine. It'd be great to see Fuji make a cinema camera. Could they minimize the rolling shutter speed with more processing inside a larger body? (It's not bad, but faster read-out speeds are better.) Doesn't the Fuji allow for external Blackmagic Raw recording? I think that could come in handy. Each camera brand has its pros and cons. What would it be like if the two collaborated? (Much like Toyota and Subaru with the GR86.) Blackmagic Design and Fujifilm? A powerful, easy-to-use camera larger than the XH2S but set up more like an URSA would be dynamite (with a bit of Arri Alexa sprinkled in for fun).
The X-H2 can shoot BMD Raw external already. It also has a very good shutter readout speed with its backside illuminated stacked sensor (running open gate).
It looks creamy but sharp. hard to explain. Damn.
if the anamorphic lens at the end of the day is essentially compressing the edges instead of stretching them out like most wide angle lenses would then can the anamorphic thing be done post in the editor with footage from regular lenses?
How is the camera noise with higher ISO values? It looks veeeery grainy on some tests I saw. What do you think?
The Kinefinity Mavo S35 Mark 2 has the same sensor as the XH2S!
Unfortunately, Fuji is hiding a ton under the hood as they are blurring the shit out of their chroma Cr and Cb channels to hide color noise. You can see it by splitting the video using Neat Video. You can bypass it with external RAW but then you lose the 14-bit sensor readout unfortunately.
I debated between the XH2S and ended up getting the S5iiX, that coupled with BRAW makes for an incredibly impressive organic image.
If you were stuck on the X-H2s and had to chose BRAW or Prores and or Flog2?
@@spanishprisoner I'd still choose BRAW as it skips the nasty chroma blurring that the non-RAW codecs ae plagued with.
@@alihammad6318 thanks!
What exact Supermist did you use? I looked it up but there were a few different options. Is it Formatt Hitech Black Warm?
Believe it was the formatt 1/8 black super mist
did you add barrel distortion in resolve? and if so, what's the simplest means of conveying that process. I just shot a feature with these lenses - and I love the what the added distortion does to the overall image. beautiful look.
Jesse we go over this really in depth in our video on the laowa nanomorphs if I remember right.
Awesome, thank you!@@NorthwestCameraCo
Hello, nices test, the XH2 can record anamorphic too? can be deezquese display or not?
Looks fantastic! Would love to see that glass on a S1H/S5iix
You and me both!
you are PERFECT at 1.25X
Wow.
rumor is the kinefinity mavo mark 2 s35 has the same sensor. only other camera with the same specs on the sensor so would make sense. totally unofficial though.
May I suggest you to review also Z cam e2 s6/f6/f6 pro also Kinefinity Mavo Mark2 S35 chinese brand digital cinema cameras, as they are not pricey and easily compete with a lot of cameras.
We would love to review a kinefinity. We’ve reached out to them but expensive to rent and no demos. And none local to Seattle. :(
Good news, this sensor will mostlikely being used in the upcoming kinefinity 6k mk2
is this a rumor?
@@chrisreist Its not officially confirmed however accrding to the rolling shutter performance wich is exactly the same as xh2s should indicate that theyll be implementing this exact sensor. There are also some hints from excutive producers etc.
@@mark12345697 we will know it ?
It will be used in the coming BMD 6K too, behind a L-mount
@@chrisreist This is what many people are speculating including some credible source. However do your own research.
@@ParadoXe111 merci!!
Please did you shoot on F-log or F-log 2?
This was f log2
@@NorthwestCameraCo please what were your settings? Did you turn down noise reduction in camera?
LUCKY!!! Put those on the GFX 100 II
We just got our gfx 100ii. Love it!!!! Sadly coverage wise will result in similar image. The rear element protrudes too far to use a FF expander on the master anamorphics.
@@NorthwestCameraCo Awesome getting the GFX. I love mine. I am debating between the smalllrig cage and the Kondorblue. DZO lenses seem to cover the sensor using a PL mount. I have not tried the Nisi lenses yet
My jaw is still on the floor at 1:30
Did you guys use the Fuji lut to grade? Or did you use any other specific lut ?
CST to loc g and then ARRI 709 with some color tweaks
@@galenandrus4158 nice, how did you guys expose (0-0.3 or 1 stop over)? And based on your tests do you feel that the xh2s could be used commercially and for legitimate filmmaking (not just low budget stuff)?
why do you not like mirrorless cameras?
Mostly due to lack of in’s and outs and options for proper audio.
@@NorthwestCameraCo yeah I get you on that. Especially when you have a 1st and 2nd ac, client monitors, brand people etc...
@@TheJPinder exactly!!
@@NorthwestCameraCo There is a Tascam dual XLR unit specific for this camera. It is hot shoe mounted and feeds digital audio, bypassing the camera's preamps.
I wanna see how stupid these behemoth lenses look on the tiny Fujifilm XS20! Or one of the X-Pro cameras.
Apparently the new Mavo S35 mk ii has this exact sensor! Only a rumor though.
If I could confirm this I would buy one immediately.
