The review and your model are really good. It gives me a real sense of what kond of character in can get with these lenses. Your channel deserves more subscribers, thats for sure! ❤
@@SuperLala33 hey thanks. Well spread the word. Just over here having fun and sharing with the world.
I sse them for 599 though
You said "There's some things that change from focal length to focal length that we'll get into later." Did I miss where you talk about that? Also, I wish the flashlight tests were separated more so I would have time to examine what's happening before someone's shining that in my eyes. Even at .25 we barely get a chance to look. Thankfully, many of your other tests aren't so flashy. Good review, though I don't generally think of clinical with these lenses because the transitional areas to out of focus are really something special. But yeah, sharp. I don't generally identify as bokehlicious, but with these lenses I could see taking it all off and shooting wide open all the time. NDs for sure. I'll be interested to see what V35s look like. I could see coming down and renting a set when they're available.
Hey!! We totally forgot to stick that in. 3 things about the DZO set. Wide open sharpness varies a bit and same with CA. Similar to sigmas. They have possibly some mismatched color between focal lengths and bokeh qualities seem to vary slightly. But really most of this can be said about the sigmas also. Will put out a separate little video with just a walkthrough of all focals of Arles
@@NorthwestCameraCo Thank you for confirming that I'm not going senile. Well, I suppose this doesn't rule that out, but for only this instance. The location of my car keys is another matter. Looking forward to more Arles related material.
@@dollhausenx absolutely. We shot a lot of stuff with them so have enough for some more material.
These or the nisi athena lenses?
@@somosalvajes such a tough decision. I think these might be a little more consistent than the NiSi and because of that they might have the edge. But they are twice as expensive. So hard call.
Def a good set. I have a sigma set and was tempted to sell to grab these but might end up just keeping them.
Same shots here, working on the same projects I guess...czcams.com/video/GQc7dQIW9z8/video.htmlfeature=shared&t=369
Why is everyone afraid to compare the Arles against the Nisi Athena?! I have an inkling suspicion the Athena's outperform these!!! Some please prove me wrong! 🧐
I think because they are very different lenses, like in both of aperture and focal length.
One of, but not the best camera ! No way !
thanks for brief idea on CN-E lense set. Liked it... which lense you suggest for interview/documentary/General shot purpose for one man band? I can take only one focal length ( along side RF28-70, that i already own)? I was inclining towards 85 or 135 side since i do not have that focal length. ( I am aware about quality in photo lense vs Cinema lense, but had to use certain things that i already own)
DZOFilm heavy marketing, shit lenses.
I beg you to stop using "Vistavision", everyone knows this format by "full frame" now.
That’s not the terminology used in the cinema world. The two common terminology is “Large Format” or “Vista Vision”. Also vista vision is not the same as 35mm full frame. It’s larger than it. So yes the terminology is the right choice.
Vista vision is a larger image circle than full frame. If you were to put these on a true full frame 16:9 sensor they would have better performance at the edges than putting them on a wider vista vision sensor. They are close but one is a larger. There are some FF lenses that don’t perform well or even vignette when you go that extra little bit larger.
This is like saying "I beg you to stop using "Super 35", everyone knows it as "APS-C"
Aren’t the Laowa Argus T1 set faster with equal coverage?
They are not PL or EF mount. And if you have an L mount camera you’re SOL
@@JamesJacksonFilmz they have lmount for the s35 so highly likely it will come to the full frame line
@@lombardy3274 I spoke to a rep for Laowa, and they told me it is not very likely because apparently it’s very expensive to build lenses for the Leica L mount.
@@JamesJacksonFilmz interesting. Is it a licensing cost or a complexity of manufacturing cost? Strange they will have it for s35 but not full frame.
@@lombardy3274 i didn’t get the specifics. If I had to guess it’s a bit of both and building S35 lenses is not as expensive as FF glass, which my guess brings a positive ROI.
So glad to see you sound off about these. And thanks for the comparison against Sigma, I think that's particularly helpful. The Arles set is pure gold, both figuratively and literally with its warm image. Every single time I put an Arles on my camera, the image on the monitor just makes me smile. I can't wait to see what your V35 version looks like! Great work as usual.
@@nick_salazar they are really fantastic!!! Crazy what lens technology has been able to do for the price.
Absolutely true. And yet, sadly no rotating astigmatisers to be found under $15k. I’m strongly considering buying a single Xelmus Apollo. Picking the focal length has been a challenging thought experiment, but I think I’m gonna get the 40mm. You ever shot in those?
@@nick_salazar have not. Heard they are really finicky and need service quite a bit.
I’ve heard that too. But those flares … I’d put up with a LOT for those flares.
@@nick_salazar you’d be surprised at what you might let go when you’re talking 3-5k in service a few times a year. Honestly the aivascope 1.5x looks awesome and very great flares on NiSi Athena’s and sp3
Was it the Pro or the FF? because on your title it says "BMC6K FF" and in your video "BMCC 6K Pro"
They are simultaneously building your tolerance to viruses and absurdity! Thanks again for this review and others - always get a ton of value!
appreciate you watching!
I'm about to watch your summary after the test footage… My two cents: With some experience and insight, the Sigma primes are fantastic, especially now that the data is standard. They look great, and the data is handy for VFX. The Tokina Vista line, in its various flavors, is exceptional. Now that they have the Vista-P version and you are creating a V35 version, all the bases are covered. People mention they are heavy, but their weight aligns with similar lenses. The DZO lenses are pretty, but if I were renting or buying, I’d spend more and get what I want. Like I said, my 2 cents. I have not had the opportunity to work with them, which could change my mind.
Now that I have heard your conclusion, we share a similar sentiment. Looking forward to seeing the V35 version!
That Tokina!!
Tokina skin tones are magic.
I would say remove that green cast on the lens coating and they would be pretty much perfect.
Recovering from a cold? I just had Covid for a week!
When we shot this i was definitely recovering. Kids man, i feel like i have cold every other week.
Im hoping that it eats up the borano market share to force sony to actual start being competitive.
Ask yourself this question. "What looks worse to the eyes of the *audience*?" Extended Highlight Artifacts - vs- Rolling Shutter Artifacts
@@AlexDerrick_DP honestly you can control the Highlight issues by just controlling movement. But honestly doubtful anyone would notice either.
You guys make THE most informative videos. What cage and handle are on this GFX?
Could I use these on my BMCC 6K FF in open gate instead of jumping into apsc mode?
I’m surprised that this rear adapter could fit on a prime lenses. Was there anything special you had to do to make it work?
RED and best budget in the same sentence? With its bullshit overpriced proprietary media, batteries and accessories?
A crusade against Mercury veiled as a review of Blazar. It’s quite funny to be honest. The presenter deploys huffs and puffs and rhetorical figures of speech any politician can learn from to push their agenda. Thumbs up for this skit!
It's insane that you can actually create a high-end production with this budget. The image is absolutely amazing. You say, you are with money left for buying some accessories. I'd say you can save for buying some awesome lenses.
Is it true these lenses could take a 40.5mm filter in the rear?
Im wondering at 11:30 , what that side handle is called on the FX6 Zeiss sample photo there. I've been looking all over where to buy one that's compatible w/ my tilta cage's arri rosette
10:57 bro predicted the future
Man, your video is perfect. Thanks a lot :)
Glad it helped! Cheers!
I'm just so addicted the clean shadows of the DGO sensor. So hoping for a full frame DGO sensor in the pipeline too.
Love your tests and really like the way you made this creative bokeh! I have a question on the T Stop of the V35 Version. It seems that they are a quite bit darker compared to the Sigma Cine. (Obviously I do not know the other camera settings) Are the V35s still a T1.5?
Amazing... Sign me up
Really great work. Quick question on the Sigma "Classic Art" lenses - are they still f1.4 optical designs, and the missing coatings steal that stop and a half of light? I've gotta say I actually like them quite a bit but previously dismissed them for the speed. I wish lenses would come with both f and T numbers labeled.
I have Classics and they are the same optical formula as the the Cines so they are and f/1.4. You just lost so much light due to all of the internal reflections. One thing this also creates is quite a heavy vignette with a noticeable amount more light transmission in the center of the image and a general color wash that can occur if there is a bright saturated color entering the frame. They are quite fun to play with.
Thanks Casey!
yea Casey hit it on the head.
Hello, nices test, the XH2 can record anamorphic too? can be deezquese display or not?
Why do they look so pale and over exposed? also the colors look off on everything.
These are Washington skin tones baby. lol. Wish that was a joke. It’s rarely sunny here. We’re all in need of a tan real bad.
How far past infinity does this focus? (Rant: when did it become acceptable for a manual focus lenses to not be calibrated for infinity, damn you cost cutters).
I just got the Godox F600Bi. It's pretty great. The ballast is a little loud, but there's cabling to move it away.
I wish you guys would do a in depth of filmbox
Thank you for this. The exciting part for me was seeing the HUGE difference that 3:2 gives....it's such a massive change in how much more the lenses can see. Epic!
Yea that extra vertical makes a big difference in look
thank you for pointing out the cable, that's something I'll have to keep an eye on when operating with an AC or anyone that isn't me ;)
What's the name of the company that's doing the Master Anamorphic rehousing? It brings to mind Arri's own ALFA anamorphics.
I’ll find out. Detective time.
Y'all were great and it was so fun talking with you! Looking forward to using some of the V35 lenses in LA
Hit up freestyle. We’ve got our sets parked there in Silverlake area
No PL + L ???
No PL or EF probably due to performance and light in edges. L mount might come later.
Looks interesting. Do you know if they match well with the Ranger series colour wise?
Burano is 16bit raw and c400 is 12 bit raw right?
Yo I thought it was you! I should’ve said hi. Yeah I love your guys’ stuff!
Your reviews are absolutely the best. So much quality info! I’d love to know your thoughts on the GFX 100Sii regarding the same application!
