Noah's video on the Tewksbury Hospital: • The Haunted Insane Asy...
For the very first time on the J-MASS CZcams channel, I embark on a paranormal investigation at one of the most notorious hospitals in Massachusetts! Joined by fellow paranormal CZcamsr Noah Faraday, we arrive at the Tewksbury Hospital Cemetery, also known as "The Pines", in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, ready to search for ghosts and spirits! Truthfully, I myself am a skeptic: I do not believe in the paranormal or supernatural, and have never engaged in any form of paranormal investigation before. However, I respect those who do, and I am always open to trying new things and challenging my beliefs! While at this cemetery with a very harrowing past, Noah shows me the basics of how to conduct a proper paranormal investigation, using special tools such as the spirit box to establish a connection with nearby ghosts. Together, we thoroughly investigate this cemetery in an attempt to discover any spirits. This was truly an intriguing activity, and I greatly thank Noah for bringing on his paranormal investigation skills and showing me how it's done at one of the most disturbing unmarked cemeteries in New England! Definitely check out Noah's channel as well!
Tewksbury Hospital itself is rather interesting. It first opened in 1854 as the Tewksbury Almshouse, aiming to house and assist the poor; in 1866, the very first hospital was built on the premises. By the 1880s, the property had solely become a hospital, treating those with various physical and mental ailments. Tewksbury Hospital's history is notorious for innumerable allegations of patient abuse and mistreatment, and for being an epicenter of misery and suffering. Its most famous patient, Anne Sullivan (tutor and friend of Helen Keller) resided there between 1876 and 1880, describing it as "indecent, cruel, melancholy, gruesome". The hospital would cycle through many different names: first as Tewksbury State Hospital in 1900, then as Tewksbury State Infirmary in 1909, then as Tewksbury State Hospital and Infirmary in 1939, and lastly as Tewksbury Hospital in 1959. By the 1970s, many of the hospital's older buildings would be demolished and razed, but several still remain today; in fact, Tewksbury Hospital is still active to this day, primarily operated by Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Unlike many past hospitals I've covered in New England, this one is not abandoned.
In this video, Noah and I focus on the Tewksbury Hospital Cemetery, also known as "The Pines". This is a primarily unmarked cemetery, home to an estimated 8,500 burials spanning across 3.5 acres (1.4 hectares) of pine-covered woods. While most graves are completely unmarked, only identifiable by arbitrary numbers, it is estimated that most burials vary between 1890 and 1933. There are a handful of marked graves in the cemetery, including John Scanlon (died in 1894) and Federico Alleva (died in 1900). Due to the cemetery's status as a mass unmarked grave, likely filled mostly with patients who suffered at Tewksbury Hospital, it is often cited as a very harrowing and disturbing location. The cemetery is open to the public, and boasts several hiking trails around the property. If you guys liked this video, make sure to stay tuned for more exploration videos all across New England!

i've been going to this place alot recently, its really peaceful honestly and a really nice trail. There's an abandoned building right across from it known as the Stonecroft building. I've been inside of there three times now and its honestly the best abandoned place ive been in, if not one of them. There's a bunch of old things left over from the hospital and I believe they also use it for storage now? I had to hop a fence inorder to get in there lol so you might wanna be careful if you ever go in there. This location has a lot of sentimental value for me and I'm really happy you made a video about it, thank you for this!
there is little to no images of the interior of the building online so a video would be helpful, i could also send you images of it if you want!
and yea.. i go on walks here after school on most days and you can definetly feel something there lol

I remember walking by the Stonecroft building before filming this video thinking about going inside, but unfortunately I didn’t… I’ll definitely have to make an effort to explore it very soon then! Sounds like a dope spot!

There are a couple abandoned buildings at the hospital but u can only get into one. The one u can get into is the gaint stone one that's tucked in the back corner by the farm with all the windows. I would be very careful if u decided to go there but its still a really cool spot. There's a lot of cool stuff in that building.

Oh yeah, we actually walked by that one during the filming of this video! While I didn’t go inside, I’d love to check it out more in-depth sometime!

@@j-massI've been in that building twice and its the most beautiful abandoned building I've ever been in. Inside has a bunch of old hospital equipment and random objects that are really well preserved but just to let u know I believe that place does have police guards, so if u decide to go in be very careful.

You're welcome! It is a super cool spot. I don't know if you've been before but Iron Horse Park in Billerica (which is the neighboring town) is another cool spot in the area. Its an abandoned rail road station.

I live right down the street from this cemetery. I went today people put vodka and rum on Federico’s grave. And there’s a big grave for a one year old baby. It’s completely depressing to go and walk through.

I've been working at the hospital since 2006. I heard some of those graves are mass graves. All records from 1899 or 1900 down have been destroyed. These people have all been lost to time.
