- The movie "E.T." - The Extra-Terrestrial" broke all records in the early 1980s - and of course the alien and his friend Elliot also played a major role in my childhood. Today it's time to revisit the places of my childhood in real life - 40 years later. And my film safari takes me all the way to the United States.
A film by Matthias Schwarzer.

This is why real sets are so much better than CGI. People like us can have the enjoyment of visiting one day!
Yeah, I hate cgi. Love real locations.
Tudor style home facades were a thing in the 70s and 80s in the US. My father got his home design from a book of American plans published around that time and I remember seeing many facades in that style.
The half timbered house was a look back in the 80s. It was there. The owner just updated the facade and removed them.
the "half timbered" thing was definitely more of 70s/80s style in parts of the country. But i dont think they were usually painted on but more commonly appliques or siding. The first such home you showed on the left likely lost the timbered look during a remodel, it probably wasnt anything done specifically for the movie, but thats just conjecture. Anyways, nice work on the video! Subscribed.
Thankyou , I have loved this video too also back to the future and stand by me , really , thankyou so much , you have made a lot of people very happy , lots of love xxxxxx😊🤗💞💜😊💜
Really enjoyed watching this one Matthias, great job hunting down the locations
Amazing how much development you can see in just a few decades
Your video answered your question about the timbered homes. You can clearly see the house in the 23 minute mark of the video. The picture from the movie where it’s under construction shows the actual timbers before they filled in the rest of the wall.
I remember this Steven Spielberg movie along with Hook.
Normally I love a neighborhood with lots of trees and bushes etc. But in this case its a bit sad to see. Not just because things look so different from the film I loved watching growing up. But also I think those two towns actually looked better with the views as open as they used to be, without all the trees. Especially with all the great mountains surrounding the neighborhood. It really created some cool views that were captured in the film.
Appreciate the effort you put into this video production. Thoroughly enjoyed it and now I too want to go and see my childhood movie locations too. 🤷🏻♂️😁
You failed to mention that Elliot's crush was played by Erika Eleniak, who, among other things, had a role in "Bay Watch" starring David Hasselhoff.
Great job. Greetings from Brazil.
Love that the caterpillar is still there, when so much old play equipment would have been removed
It makes me want to plant trees ! It's crazy to think about the development of the trees between then and now. Some of them became magnificent green creatures...
Amazing!!
nice work - thanks man
I live in that neighborhood, and people travel here from Europe not realizing how fricken’ hot it gets in the summer. As a trade-off our winters are on the mild side. By the way, the “turning circles” are called cul de sacs in the US. It’s from the French saying “bottom of the bag”.
Dude you are awesome! Love your videos and positive demeanor your personality gives off.
Just subscribed! 😊
Thanks for the video, it was great !
Great job, crazy to see those filming locations. I live in Southern California as well so it makes it even more interesting for me
I love E.T The Extra Testicle 🤔🤔🤔👽👽👽
legendary e.t.
It's nice to see a lot of the locations are more green, and they haven't removed the trees
Both filming locations you showed were obviously chosen because the neighborhoods had only just been built, or were still under construction. This meant that there were fewer people around to interfere with the filming.
Lovin Your Film Style!!! Subscribed. If You Ever Need A Local Los Angeles-ino, Lets Plan Some More Filming Spots !!!! Keep It Up, Proud To be An Early Sub ;)
p.s. the lane is called a passing lane... so technically yes, for a car to turn left or emergency vehicle . or even for Mail Delivery when no parking available 😉 ta-hung-ah
Literally not one mountain bike. Not one.
20:20 - Yes, they are left turn lanes. We often call them 'suicide lanes' because the traffic can utilize them to turn left from either direction. On streets such as this, there are a lot of driveways and such so we just make them have a suicide lane.
Also no, school bus stops are not marked in the US. They move them or add or remove them each year depending on where the kids that go to the school actually live.
Your other American viewer is correct...there are no physical bus stop structures for school buses. The school systems can change the bus stops every year depending upon where the kids along the route live. Physical bus stop structures are for public buses, which usually aren't used for getting to school in Southern California.
Great videos I noticed in your Back to the Future video you talked a lot about how much drier the lawns were in the locations then than now and in this video the opposite where things are much greener than the time of ET filming. I think some of that is just because it is rainiest in LA around December to March and hotter and drier outside of that period so depending on when the filming happened and when you visit it could look different. Also of course some years are very dry and severe droughts other years like right now not as much. So it is always going to be variable.
10:28 I was born in the 80s and went to primary school in the 90s (in Aus), and we used to play on one of those giant metal 'spider web' things. They did indeed remove most of them for being too dangerous 😅
Los Angeles airport is so bad; I've been there twice and both times had terrible experiences. It's so unorganised, people are rude and it takes ages. We are recommended to fly into Dallas instead.
Crazy
The thing I think this person was taking about is the jungle gym. That playground equipment is dangerous and people can get hurt. My advice is to beware of your surroundings.
Tujunga is pronounced “Tuh-HUN-guh”. 😊
Mountain bikes 😂
How you know where the film location?
There are a lot of websites specialized in filming locations 👍
10:20 They expanded the road, and moved the sidewalk closer to the wall... Ugh...
