Ah so happy you got out! I just passed through Bali the other day (from Dili of all places lol) and was hoping you were out! Apurva certainly is a chance of scenery!
I spent one week/month for a year staying at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. I was a Hilton Diamond at the time, so I could use the separate check-in area behind an unmarked door off to the left side of the lobby, facing the check-in counters. I would book the least expensive room that was available, and then call an unpublished New Jersey phone number that one of three young ladies would answer. They would upgrade me to a suite in the Tower for $75/night off-season or $140/night on-season. I was always assigned the corner suite on the 9th floor of Park Ave and 50th St. The Waldorf Tower was the only hotel in NYC where I could get a good night's sleep, due to the restriction prohibiting truck traffic on Park Ave. Two huge rooms, really tall ceilings, fabulous furnishings and superior service. Simply superb. Seeing what they branded as a Waldorf Astoria in Cancun in no way compares. Making a place stupid expensive doesn't make it a Waldorf. Je passe. Oh, and just a passing shout-out to the Hong Kong Conrad Hilton, where I spent many nights. I loved that experience, too. I would arrive about 10:30pm after connecting through Tokyo Narita. They knew who my favorite massage therapist was, and had her stay late for me. I'd get a one-hour massage, head back up to my top floor suite and they would send a lovely young lady dressed in an ancient formal gown to prepare my bedtime tea service. Hilton really took care of their Diamond members back then. 👍

I feel like a comparison between the Waldorf and Hilton next door is not justified. I left the Waldorf to go try the Hilton after staying at Waldorf for 2 nights because I watch this video. I would gladly have stayed another day in Waldorf. The Hilton level of service and quality is incomparable to Waldorf. I agree that the price of Waldorf should not be that high but I feel it filters out a lot of people who are not willing to pay for the level of service and food, making the experience at Waldorf very personal and attentive which I enjoyed. The Hilton at this time in June is very crowded and has an odor compared to the Waldorf next door that has very little people and was very refreshing. The pool at Waldorf also has very little occupancy and was very quiet, which was nice. The Waldorf had some of the best quality food, I ever tried. (I’ve been to over 20 countries.) Overall I think if people are comfortable paying for the experience it is definitely worth going to Waldorf. And in terms of the all inclusive hotels I’ve been to Hilton in Cancun rank far below Marriott, secrets the vine and ziva.

Kevin your dry humour 🤣🤣🤣brightens my weekend every time. I watch every single one of your videos and remember when you introduced the new scoring system. My question is, why does the 'olive oil' on the floor not count as a penalty in the score? Is it because it was sorted out and you were fine with your new room (or maybe that they still went beyond to give you a master suite, lucky you)? Because it seems to me like something that shouldn't be expected now if you visit and surely wasn't as the hotel intended.
Good question- when I was filming my first ever video for the channel I slipped on wet stairs and really hurt my back. Ever since then I’ve been hyper sensitive to flooring materials and such.
While it’s certainly not as it should have been, I’m not sure many people would have noticed this as a problem until someone fell- housekeeping included. I think it was an honest oversight in the same way that a single hair on a bed would be (something I wouldn’t deduct points for).
The only reason in the end that I focused much at all on the floors in this video were bc it was necessary context for why I got the suite. The hotel has many other systematic or ‘baked in’ issues- but this I saw likely as a one off.
Wow, those prices are crazy and begging for tips not cool !! But that room upgrade was pretty sweet, except for the danger balcony 😅. Why is transport so expensive down there?

My family and I just returned from a trip to the WA. I think it depends on what you’re looking for. The WA is very quiet and relaxing and the Hilton seems like a zoo in comparison. We walked over one evening and couldn’t believe the difference between the 2 hotels. No doubt the food is expensive at the WA but at least it is good.
Sure. I’m not saying it would necessarily be a resort to swap to- but rather to point out how similar they are (and therefore the poor value of the WA in general). Thanks for sharing ✈️

Were you the only guest at the hotel? Were all the other guests fleeing the hotel due to exorbitant menu pricing?😁🤑
I always film during off peak times to avoid other guests… but this one was pretty easy since I’d say occupancy was around 20%

Stayed here just after they first opened and dined at Malpeque the first night. The waiter said not to order the chicken (still on the menu) because the portion size would be too small for a main and he does not recommend it, but he just kept trying to recommend the most expensive items on the menu. Went with the steak which was great but also a smaller portion. He also said the same thing to the party seated next to me, once I received the bill and saw the recommended gratuities it made sense why he was doing this. Fruit plate and pastry basket was good but I also had the bill presented just like you did even with the Diamond breakfast benefit. I know you film early, but how many other guests did you see? While I was there, there were less than an dozen other guests although they recently had opened.
I’d estimate around 20%, maybe a bit less. Mind you, Hilton next door was pushing full capacity.
The prices on that menu and receipt almost gave me a stroke 😱😱
Yupp- I was caught completely off guard. I expected my $100 credit to cover my dinner and my laundry… in reality I owed around $65 at check out lol.

That room was sort of like a veranda cabin on a ship ..well a nice ship,everything else seemed a bit ordinary but certainly not the prices

Lol, no. Not sure they realize they are running a hotel in Mexico. Shameful food pricing and their tipping practices are no bueno. Hard pass.
Yupp, I reckon this one falls into the “I paid with free points from my 150 work nights at Hilton Garden Inns last year so the food prices are fine bc the room was ‘free’” category.
Stayed 1 week at Waldorf Cancun, it is different to Hilton mostly becauae of Guests (Hilton guys messed up, place was packed, food smelled throughout the resort), furniture much more exclusive at Waldorf, SPA top notch. Problem is you cannot go out for dinner, takes way too long. Waldorf a good choice if you don't plan to leave the property
...and if you happen to travel with straps of cash lol
@tfft it is pricey here but you get quality. Just returned from 1 week Papaya Playa in Tulum, here, Beer costs double vs Waldorf and LOW quality, same for the whole reaort. Somehow the area is going crazy, more and more it is about going all inclusive even for people who don't travel on a budget. I think there is a limit for everything but some places are going nuts out there
Reckon they clocked you? Not sure the Amex booking + dirty floor would have just anyone the Master Suite
In and of itself it shouldn’t have- but the manager said there were other rooms available that wouldn’t have meant a downgrade that should have been offered to me from the get go. The master suite was recovery for the downgrade and needing to move twice- still over the top, but yeah.
How is there no one else in the video? I stayed here in October and the beach was very chipped away up to the loungers.
I always film during early/late hours when it won't disturb guests.

That Kanai area looks interesting. Are they competing with Mayakoba? Would love to see what their hotels and beach look like! After a far trip to awful Vietnamese beaches, really appreciating the ones in the Caribbean that are so close and …beautiful….and: trash free! Who knew?!
Vietnam, Thailand and Indo all suffer from their own forms of garbage flow. Phu Quoc's water quality is much more about the straits and gulf of Thailand than anything actually related to VN and for all of them, water quality is seasonal.
@@tfft suppose the people and culture and food in Cambodia spoiled me, so was already feeling like the time in Vietnam would have been better spent in Cambodia. Then the beaches sucked with that trash. Cambodia: It’s the only place in SE Asia I would return to, no beach necessary even lol

@@tfft oh, I was there for the temples and ruins, which were insanely beautiful. The city was like Playa del Carmen in feel, so I loved it. I will NEVER be going to SE Asia for a beach again. Or anything really, most likely. Finally learned my lesson. Hawaii really does win it there, no such thing as a so-so beach in Hawaii, not on any island. Mexico has a lot. Florida has plenty. Might be time to do more of the Caribbean. I hear St. John is the place. Jamaica has great resorts and beaches, but why deal with the torture of their airport? 😅
I just watched a vlog filmed the RItz Carlton Nikko and poped over to yours, obviously there is a long way to go for American 'luxury' hotel to catch the quality, space and design of Luxury hotel in Asia. This WA looks more like Conrad or even lower rank brands
Well... Ritz Carlton is just as American as WA lol.
I mean standard is quite different, like park hyatt, ritz carlton always has the great properties in Asia as opposed to Amercia continent@@tfft

I can’t believe they deliberately billed you more to inflate the prices for breakfast to receive a higher tip. I work in finance and accounting, I always pay attention to my receipts. This is definitely not going to fly with me. That’s so unprofessional. I plan to stay at Conrad Tulum and I hope it’s a better experience than WA.

Simple equation it is!
A Lexus still provides good value for money though; WA Cancun is like the Maserati and Hilton is like the Fiat. Hotel is just riding the Hilton brand name to get "chubby" American tourist/points people and then they'll hit them with the F&B upcharge to make $$$. Honestly kinda the same experience at the WA Cabo and Conrad Punta di Mita.

I was in the neighboring Hilton all inclusive resort 4 weeks ago , and I can’t really see much difference to the Waldorf Astoria. The rooms in the Hilton were awesome, food was not so great, only buffet, and the beach was full of sea weed and much worse than the beautiful sand beaches in the Zona Hotelera in Cancún which we visited a year ago. We had a car, but without a car, this location is in the middle of nowhere and you have to book excursions in the hotel.
Only buffet? I was at the Hilton the week before this and there were at least 3 full service a la carte restaurants.

Prices in Cancun are just ridiculous. I was there 3 weeks ago and it makes no sense. The locals are getting paid a few dollars an hour and the cost of living is cheap. Flat out price gouging.. Probably cheaper in Hawaii these days. beers at the airport are almost double what they cost in the Las Vegas airport. Lady had a small beverage cart just outside of baggage claim and was selling a 12 ounce Tecate beer for $12 EACH
Totally agree and also why I’m so hesitant to tip there. Imagine if the breakfast server was actually tipped $15pp/d. there’s no way in hell all of that money is going to him personally. That’s $75k/year for 20 guests per day.

I purposely don’t include other guests when I can help it- that said, it wasn’t busy. Probably around 20%- compared to likely 80%+ at the Hilton.

$0.00. I’m a generous tipper if and when it’s appropriate. An entirely free meal is not one of those times. (And the fact that they were suggesting an $18 tip was like a slap in the face… if tipping is actually at that level, then the hotel must be taking a cut since 20% tips on high US prices would be life changing for staff in Mexico…)

Beautiful video as always. One question though. Why the resort seems to be empty devoid of other guests? You seem to be the only guest around in this huge resort.

Good review. Hard pass. Would rather take a long leisurely flight in BC/FC to Koh Samui or any other island in Thailand and rent a cottage on the water. (flights paid with points of course)
