- #MattiesKitchen, in this video Mattie will be showing you how to make some "Southern Fried Rabbit Smothered in Gravy". If you want your rabbit to come out tender, ensure you marinade it for at least 12 hours in buttermilk. Some people think cooking rabbit is hard, but it's actually similar to frying chicken. And pretty much everyone loves chicken so fried rabbit smothered in gravy should taste the same, tender and delicious. So sit back and relax as you enjoy this cooking show from start to finish! If you have a question, feel free to leave a comment. Mattie's Kitchen 👍🏿

When I was a child growing up in Mississippi in the early 80s my brother, my dad and I would go rabbit hunting at night and we ate wild rabbit at least twice a week to make ends meet. My mother would fry it up with white rice brown onion gravy and biscuits just like you have in the picture and that is one of my favorite memories. You took me back to the best days of my life. Thank you
I love rabbit
Thanks so very much for sharing your thoughts. Please continue watching my videos with friends and family and subscribe if not. Thanks

Thanks so very much Nancy. You should try to catch one. Please continue watching my videos with friends and family and subscribe if not. Thanks
You tortured that $40.00 rabbit 🐇 with that DOLLAR TREE KNIFE!! rabbit in St. Louis only cost $15.000 are LESS
@@margaretenglish1110 free with a shotgun 😂
Farm raised rabbits cost that much because they're expensive to raise and fatten up that big. That's why they were never really domesticated. I tried raising rabbits once and it was too much of a hassle and too expensive. A hog is way cheaper to raise up for market. But definitely get them rabbits in your pasture. Free meat is good meat, especially if you drown it in good brown gravy like that. I've never had rabbit fried, usually just in a stew, but that looks pretty good.
Been a while since I had rabbit. For $40.00 a rabbit, I might stick with chicken lol. Sure looks good! Thank you for the video recipe.
I know what you mean. Jeffery please try it one time. Thanks
@@mattieskitchen794 I do plan on trying it, you make it look so good. Back in the day I grew up on a farm, my ancestors used to grow rabbits and they would can them.

Its been too many years since I had rabbit.. For those that don't know, it does taste a bit like chicken. The only problem with rabbit is that it takes several of them. Have a blessed new year!👍👏🏻👏🏻
You are so right. Please continue watching my videos with friends and family and subscribe if not thanks
I haven't cooked rabbit since 1968. I cooked it like Mattie does & it was delicious with rice & a vegetable. I was shocked to hear she paid $40.
Last year we decided to start raising rabbits to supplement our freezer. I’m trying different ways of cooking to find a good tender way to make it. Rabbit is a lot like chicken but firmer and less fat. I can tell you that for $40 you could feed a doe & buck and a litter. Great job, I haven’t tried soaking it in buttermilk yet. Next time I will have to try it. We use the chest/breast area for bone broth but not really anything else because there isn’t much meat on that area and there are sooo many small bones. Thank you. ❤
Thanks for all of your info. Please sub
That looks delicious
It was! Please sub
Just did
I serve it with candied yams or sweet potatoes, collard greens and cornbread.
Sounds so good. Thanks
👠 I'm sure it taste delicious, but the slicing & prep, made me a bit queasy! so, I fastfowarded the vid, to see the end (delicious).🌸

Hello Ms. Beautiful, my Greatgrandma cooked rabbit for Big Daddy & HE WAS THE ONLY PERSON THAT ATE IT !! LOL There are several rabbits in my yard on a daily basis and they are too cute, but $40 is too EXPENSIVE. GOD Bless !
Please leave them alone. Let them hop. Please continue watching my videos with friends and family and please subscribe. Thanks
Thank you for inviting me into your kitchen. I enjoyed it very much.

My Lord, Mrs. Mattie, new sub, came to see you do oxtails... I tried rabbit once in Italy, it was sort of shredded and prepared by a chic pop chef. I really didn't like anything about it. Only dish in Italy I couldn't eat.. I am looking forward to trying it this way, looked amazing

No he didn’t!! Thanks so very much please subscribe. Thanks
I just paid $53 for a 3.25 lb at Wegmans in Buffalo NY. Yummy
Hope you enjoyed it! ❤️😊
😂😂😂
Thanks. Please sub
Rabbit the best white meat
❤️😊
With all due respect beautiful Mattie, you should invest in a rubber mallet, cleaver, and wooden cutting board. That will let you chop away and cut like you want it. Yes, rabbit is a lean meat and good for us.
I like your approach to egg whites. There is no need to include the yolk, which adds cholesterol. Egg white is harmless and healthy.
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely have to look into that. ❤️😊
Crock pot and stew
No I do not have one ! Thanks
Do a video on squirrel, please
Sheila I would love to but I am scared.
Is that domestic rabbit, or wild.
I’m not sure, I would say domestic rabbit I bought it at Publix. But now, a-days, you just don’t know.
40dollars was that just for one rabbit you got to be joking
Yes sweetie! I am scare to catch one in the yard. Lol please sub.
Sorry Ms. Mattie BUT Rabbit does not taste like chicken. Rabbit has its own unique taste. Otherwise your video was interesting...
Thanks so very much for the interesting. But sweet heart i don’t know what rabbit you are eating you are the only out of hundred of thousands who said that. Please continue watching my friends and family and subscribe. Thanks so very much for your info.
It does taste like chicken, just leaner@@mattieskitchen794
😮😢
Did she say that rabbit cost $400 or did I hear that wrong?!?
No ma'am, I wouldn't have bought it lol.
It tastes like chicken legs and thighs more than chicken breasts
Really!!
