The company pays for all of that travel and accommodation. So, OP buys train tickets and hotel rooms to travel hundreds of miles to tell his boss that he quits!

As a 30-year programmer, I can say that closing a ticket with "Could not reproduce problem" is a perfectly valid and even necessary reason. Sometimes valid customer reported problems depend strongly on exactly what the customer did, what hardware they had and even exactly how they had configured the software. Customers are rarely able to provide or even identify the need for such details. Without this closure comment, some tickets would stay open forever.
That's not to say such a ticket might not be reopened later when the situation changes, say, as more information becomes available.
There's no shame in such a closure, although an excessive number of them might indicate inadequacy on the part of the tester.
Well it helps if the submission forms also request such information, because most of the forms I've ever seen only ask "What is your issue?" or "What were you doing when the problem occurred?" it's pretty rare you're asked about your hardware although that said, I would assume most companies just automatically log and collect that information whenever a submission is sent using a tool within the program itself.
I thought the problem was the âbobâ wasnât closing his own tickets. If not sorry, Iâm listening at work
Yeah but when it has the managers name on it, they might look closer. It's probably something he could figure out if he spent more than 5min on it
We circumvented the issue of what hardware the customer had by having them take steps to send a dxdiag within the second email. Now, I get you, because it is true that some customers think that we're FBI interrogating them and they don't want to be too forthcoming with information, and I regretted having to be at the other end of that exchange, but I have to say that the dxdiag fixed a lot of reasons why certain things weren't working as they should.
On the other end, I've got a colleague who closed tickets minutes after having them by sending the same email of "devs are working on it" (paraphrased), and some of those issues were minor fixes that could have gone with updates or a little bit more effort from the person.
That person got promoted for their quantity of work, and nobody questioned the quality of their work...until the manager left, and he got fired when they saw that other agents were closing tickets he couldn't close himself.
There's always 2 sides to every job. I like to help, but some people...they just want quick pay for no effort, and their interactions makes the whole job look like it's entirely made of incompetent idiots working there. it's maybe why some karens act like karens to us, too.
Like it's said in that industry, a bad phone call will result in 5 people being told about the experience, but a good phone call will result in 3 people being told about the experience.
I agree though, there's no shame in such a closure, but covering your arse never is a bad thing.
As a former game tester (console and pc) we would ask the tester to confirm and depending on level severity we could mark as could not reproduce. Those would be double checked usually during the test cycle just in case.

I almost want to go down to the light bulbs at the bottom of the stairs cuz I live on the second floor of a two-floor building and just kick the light bulb out or smash it with a baseball bat cuz it's technically too high to kick. The reason for this is because one I have zero idea how to get the light bulb out of it I've tried twisting it out but it just doesn't twist out the bulb just seems to spin in place and even though they put LED bulbs in there they keep burning out like every three to four weeks if you know anything about LED bulbs they should last at least a year

6:16 my last job did the same. Changed my schedule. Apparently "texted" the change. Had no evidence of this text and I was still written up for being "4 hours late" and was forced to "stay late" which would've just been my original shift. No idea hat the purpose was behind it other than possibly giving me a write up.
That pizza story reminds me of a job I was at. It was a decent job but very stressful. One of our teammates was on a very stressful call and was getting very pissed off. Afterwards, he slammed his headset down, grabbed his stuff and just left, slamming the door shut. Everyone was just staring, looked at one another and everyone had the same thought "did he just quit?" About an hour and a half later, he came back. Everyone was like "dude, we thought you quit. You looked pissed." He's like "no, I just went to get pizza. I missed both of my breaks and my lunch." It became a joke in our department and anytime anyone walked out of the office angry, we always said they were getting pizza.

I absolutely loved my tech-ed class, and same with the teacher! Oh, he was an absolute gem to be around! And sure I had the option of taking it or not taking it, but I honestly think it made my senior year in high school *that much* more bearable for me. Sometimes, I'll catch myself thinking back on that class and the really cool stuff that I probably would've missed out on if I hadn't taken class. The STEM program, like the music/visual & vocal/instrumental arts program, are something that far too many people either take for granted, and/or don't think it's necessary for learning. When they actually should be (in my opinion, at least). Who knows, maybe they'll inspire the next huge master bridge engineer, the next song writer of the next "Fantasia", the next Lindsey Stirling, or even the next Bodichelli(spelling?)? Just some food for thought.
What happened in this story literally reminded me what happened at my local college that was a huge shock. By College, I should state the UK college mostly for further education with some exceptions like higher education courses not universities. While I was doing my computing course, the Stem building (a large ass building) was going to be used for other courses. This meant that this building would not used be for Stem based classes and these classes would be scattered all over the College site. What was the building being used for you may ask, beauty, hairdressing and similar classes. I understand that it is beneficial for them sort of classes but this became extremely difficult for STEM classes as far as I was aware. You can argue against me and I will respect that but a whole building suited for STEM being told no longer suited for STEM and there is no suitable other facilities to use well, does not look good.

Probably that STEM isn't a thing on Standardized Tests, so it's a waste of money. You see this with a lot of classes that aren't considered part of said Standardized Tests, like Home Ec
Science and Mathematics are on standardized tests
Yes, but not the same stuff that's usually in STEM stuff
There are also sadly people out there who also think that the visual arts, music (orchestral, instrumental, and vocal/chorus) isn't necessary either. But it really is; sometimes, it's quite literally the only link to the past we have. It plays a part in everyone's cultures, and to this day, still continues to keep the oral tradition of storytelling and relaying messages, alive. The way I see it, the arts and the maths & sciences are two sides of the same coin.
itâs a broad field, the teacher was specialized in a niche part of it rather than apart that spans multiple fields that can be utilized for multiple classes like math, science, and engineering: all of whom could work in at least two departments. even the computer tech part can be useful for math and/or engineering and science but not a highly specialized âjack of all trades, master of noneâ STEM teacher

8:45 I had a teacher like. He would essentially build stuff for the school, mostly on his own time, like signs, decorations, even a whole god damn gym that he helped build benches and what not. With barely any good recognition from the school and other non-teacher staff, except from the vice principal with whom he was relatively good friend.
I helped him a few times, mostly carrying lots of wood around, holding stuff for him and assembling a Pergola on the school terrace with him.
He retire at the same time I graduated, we threw him a small party in our last class, with cake and all.
But lets just say, he didn't bother hiding how much he HATED the school district. He was the type of teacher who says what he thought and often took the last 10~20 minutes before the end of class to just talk to everyone, when everyone was done with their tasks (he couldn't just let us go, school rules). Oh the stories we've heard from him, how much the school district is fucking over not only the teachers, but also the students. Best teacher I've ever had.
Dude! I would have loved having that teacher, too! He reminds me a lot of the teacher I had for tech-ed during my senior year in high school. I miss him and that tech-ed class some days, especially when he was showing us how they made the animations behind the "Toy Story" movie. He even made learning about the history of bridge engineers and builders fun (well, for me at least). Teachers that help us get through school (especially high school) can make all the difference for a student.

While I was in Florida the cities sanitation workers for some unclear reason wouldn't pick up some trash on one street. One of the people who lived on that street took their trash bin and drove to the director of sanitation and emptied it on their lawn. We heard about it on the news. Apparently there was no law against doing such a thing and soon every house on that street went and dumped their trash on the directors lawn as well. The very next week everyone's trash on that street was being collected again.
Love your video my guy. They always help me start the day.
Back in the mid-late 80s I used to work as a contractor helping local businesses put together their ISO 9000 registration systems. I started out just documenting their procedures, while the gentleman I subcontracted for would train them on their internal audit and corrective action systems. By abt 3 companies in to working with him, I was also helping them with these functions as well.
Well, one client company we had, when I was working on documenting their quality procedures (those owned by the quality department), one of our standard concepts was having the quality manager be one of those who approved any processes where the quality department was involved. This QA manager (DingBat as an alias), though, didn't think that was necessary, so changed things so that he no longer had to approve any of those procedures.
Apparently, without me realizing it, this info got back to the president, the VP of Operations, and the HR manager (who'd been through the whole ISO 9000 registration process with a previous employer). I showed up one Monday morning and got called in to a meeting with these three people and I was worried; what did I do wrong now?
Turns out I hadn't; these people told me, quite fairly, that I had just done as DB requested, but they figured, if he was removing himself for any responsibility for any quality processes in the company they didn't need him on board anymore. He was fired that morning. They cleared it with the guy I subcontracted with, and brought me in as a full time temp QA Manager to replace him. And then put in in front of a meeting of all the department supervisors to explain the change.
After a bit of consultation with the guy I considered my boss (one of those great guys I'd work for at the drop of a hat anytime, anywhere), he gave me some advice on what to do, especially since I told him what a mess the QA group was in.
This company said they knew I was good at the job, and figured I could do it easily, but they had to manufacturing areas, one of which was a machine shop, so not to take it personally, but they wanted a perm QA manager who had machine shop background. When I met that guy the day he came on board and I went back to my contract job, we got along great, and when I told him the story about DB writing himself out of approval on all those procedures, we laughed. We used to joke a lot about him writing himself out of a job, which is basically what he did.
Ah yes, the classic getting a paid vacation to tell the manager to stuff it, politely.
The school one. âWhat were they thinking??â As a guys whoâs school went through cuts like this they were thinking âSports! Good! Coding? BAD! Arts? BAD!! Basketball? GOOOODâ they acted as if cutting the arts, culinary classes, maths and other important subjects to add in more sports would somehow turn out NBA, MLB, and NHL winners. It didnât because I knew most of the sports kids. They went into mechanics and trades work along with finances and nursing.

When it comes to the Tech Ed teacher, I'd bet money that the superintendent assumed, based solely on the "extras" that OP produced, that he was a glorified Shop teacher, and it was only after that little bit of malicious compliance that she was made away of what he ACTUALLY did.
It's always been my opinion that school boards and superintendents know jack all about what REALLY happens in schools day to day.
Mine did but only because he got the position after spending 2 decades as assistant principal.
Recycle bin story made me think of this.
My brother works for a cable company if someone complains about a remote they will replace it, but the old remote is supposed to be returned so it can be refurbished. Basically you put the screwing tip of it into a power outlet or on a wire (DON'T DO THIS if you don't know if it's a tester) and when you put your finger on a metal plate on the grip of the screwdriver, a light inside the clear plastic grip lights up.
Sometimes they are broken in a way that you get the actual electric shock from whatever you put the screwdriver to. If that happens, my bf just breaks the screwdriver straight in two, so that not him nor his colleagues gets shocked by faulty tools. Break it for good so to say.

Re: STEM
"What were they thinking..."
They weren't.
The school wasn't necessarily getting rid of STEM classes. The teacher, it sounds like, wasn't teaching a main curriculum course it seems. It says she taught Tech Ed which sounds like a specialty class or something. It happened to be STEM because the teacher decided to teach with a heavy emphasis on STEM, which I agree with of course.

I'd say in my experience, the phone company at 12:00 is Bell. They're hemorrhaging customers, and they think they can still ride roughshod over every one of them. At one time they were the only phone company out there, and could do damn well as they pleased. They're probably still treating customers like that. Everybody I know has left them, because of their attitude. It wouldn't surprise me one bit, if they treated their employees like that too. Peace
OP omitted to say in the last story how fantastic the rail journey is from London to Inverness.
There's some beautiful scenery on the EnglishBorders leg of the journey, but once you leave Edinburgh the scenery just gets better and better - Falkirk doesn't sound exciting, but you can get a quick glimpse of the Kelpies - a stunning sculpture, then it's Stirling, Gleneagles, Perth, Pitlochry, Kingussie, Aviemore then Inverness - maybe not quite as stunning as the West Highland Line to Fort William and Mallaig, but a fantastic journey nonetheless.
âWhat were they thinking?â
Obviously they _werenât_ thinking
Our local council changed our rubbish collections and we went from black bags to wheely bins, however we were only offered the smallest size available. On request you could upscale, which we did. Everybody in our street had new recycle bins delivered on the same day, but no allowance for collection of old bins. Eventually three dates were given for collection of the smallest bins, i ticked all three dates and waited in all day. Nobody came. The first thing i recycled in the plastics, cardboard, tin and glass bin, was the old bin, which i hacksawed up and it all fitted in the new bin.
And Inverness is a beautiful place too!

Listening to this has become my night routine âš
Honestly I don't mind bosses not assigning themselves a lot of work. I used to work at a telecommunications company as a student, my boss there built up the student group (previously each full-time group had 2-3 students "working" there (aka playing badminton because they had no tasks all day), he formed 1 full student group and expanedd the responsibilities). He used to take 2-3 hours lunch brakes, rest of the time he was doing random stuff, not woking much at all (he said so himself).
He was great.
He was good for the company, as students were cheap labour and due to his actions he was able to lift many tasks from full-time employees, saving the company money.
He was good for himself, as he was in mid-management position, earning an okay wage and not having to work hard. He told us he used to work very hard in his early career (he was only mid 30s at this point) to be in this position.
He was good for us too, he had a 1 on 1 meeting with each of us every month to evaluate our performance, tell us how we could improve, ask with what we need help, as well as he was always there if we had any questions that the mentors (the most experienced students whose extra job was to help the others) didn't know.
So I think a boss doesn't have to take on a lot of work if they're there whenever you need them and make sure noone gets stuck on a task.
I'll never understand why do you feel the need to fire teachers who actually engage with their students and the students actually love the classes
Because they make the other teachers who just want to do the bare minimum & have a month off every summer look bad & you can't have that. /s

Sadly I think it's common for schools to cut STEM because it's so expensive to start up and maintain. Most public schools don't have the money to supply pencils... Nevermind awesome skills that could be beneficial to students. Welcome to the world!
the stem teacher story kind of pissed me off because i did wood shop and mechanics were my favorite thing at high school and if budget cuts happened the school would loose a lot of money because the mechanics shop is well a mechanics shop with a REAL CERTIVIED mechanic and they would fix customer cars and let some of the students do work orders so it would really suck if any of the options classes were cut

So let me get this clear. The tenant literally wanted to threaten the painter and the owners of the building, that she won't pay rent? Is that even a threat?
I always wondered why the shop teachers always had a finger or two missing and were allowed to teach shop?? Now it's a bit worrisome. I'm ancient (
57m) now. Still makes we wonder who they chose not to be a teacher. How many fingers or body parts were they missing?
Hes recycling thumbnails now. Still love the vids tho
He's been recycling story's sometimes.
@@takitachibana1267 I love his channel but I hate how he recycles stories sometimes. Like, thereâs A LOT of new stories he could do on r/maliciouscompliance, r/prorevenge, r/choosing beggars, r/entitledparents, and other subreddits he does. Like thereâs no reason to recycle stories.
Just a quick note... in the UK phone company story, the op says he worked in the late ânaughtiestâ this isnât late 2000âs itâs actually the late 1990âs or the ânaughtiesâ as we say in the uk đđ€©
Re: The Software Test Engineer. Most Companies have a similar system.
At least those that develop software. I was a Senior Software Test Engineer and had worked for on the project almost from the very beginning.
The difference with our system was I could only recommend that a ticket be closed and had to detail the reason why. At every step, the person that touched it had to document what they did. So if it was assigned to someone to fix, they had to make the change in software and request it be assigned to testing.
Our project grew and we took on a bunch of people from other groups. One was a manager who thought that because I (or rather my group) tested the software his wrote, that I worked for him. Lol.
I di abused him of that notion..
The number of tickets you have open is a metric our customer is very aware of and has a major impact on their decisions about continued investment into the project.
When I mentioned to this manager that he needed to work on getting the tickets worked on so they could be closed. He said no problem. He would just close them himself. I told him you cant close them himself. He learned that listen very fast.
All tickets are review by a board with representatives from the Project Management, the Systems Group, Software Group and Hardware Group.
I once had to attend to get a ticket reassigned to another group. I had done all I could but knew exactly what the fault was and where it could be found (in hardware). I could not do anything more in the debugging software and needed it to be reassigned. It was a hard sell but I had a good rep, the experience to backup my conclusion and a manager who supported me. Three months later they found the exact problem I identified in the hardware.
And to prove how well our return policy works, I sawed this recycling bin in half!
