How Jam Master Jay Became a Cautionary Tale

  • After over 20 long years, justice has been served for Jam Master Jay. The individuals responsible for his murder have been found guilty.
As a huge RunDMC fan since their early days, I felt compelled to make this video, but I was unsure how to approach it. Run and Dee were iconic MCs, and Jay was one of the coolest DJs in the game.
I had two topics on my mind, but then the news broke about the verdict. I admit, I was relieved and felt a sense of closure.
In this video, I wanted to share some personal insights. Did you know RunDMC was never signed to Def Jam? They were actually signed to Profile Records. The owner, Cory Robbins, was initially hesitant to sign them, but their connection to Russell Simmons through Rush Management sealed the deal.
From 1984 to 1988, RunDMC dominated rap music, expanding their reach beyond the hood. However, with the rise of new artists and sounds, their influence began to wane.
In 1993, Pete Rock gave them a resurgence with "Down With The King," but Death Row Records was dominating the scene with G Funk. By then, RunDMC's dominance was fading, and Jay found himself in financial trouble.
To make ends meet, Jay became involved in drug dealing, which ultimately led to his tragic death in 2002. His murder was a brutal act of revenge by individuals he once trusted.
It's important to remember Jam Master Jay not for his mistakes, but for his incredible contributions to music. He was a legend, bringing energy and style to the stage like no other. Let's honor his memory and his legacy.

Great job, El! Learned a lot about Jay. Production value was on point. Transitions crisp. There is definitely a market for human interest stories about rappers of yesteryear.
