    You should do another one now that we have 7 factions to choose from. Great videos!

    Good breakdown. I like it and have been very excited for the Empire. Nailed it with the crew commanders. Been eager to try them all out.

    This is the most comprehensive study of faction identity that I have seen so far. Bravo, really nailed it. I'm excited to see Crew Commander swarms.
    Just as a side note, I remember you talking earlier about the costs of the gunner upgrades and how that would affect the playability of Luke compared to other gunners. In the article yesterday, ffg confirmed that Luke is more expensive than Bistan, Han Solo, and the rest of the gunners in the rebel faction. Not sure of you read that, but it's pretty interesting to know that ffg prefers managing firing arcs over more attacks.

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 6 lety

      Yup I saw that, even posted the chunk of text onto my Facebook page. :)
      Basically (and this is what I was hoping), taking actions like bombing, moving arcs ect. with perfect information is something highly coveted, and extremely rare. When everything got revealed my main 2 concerns were with Genius, and Luke (which is why I made a video on each). It seems like costing is going to be the main way that these repressive tactics get kept out of competitive play, but I'm glad to see them available for casual play none the less.

    More top ponderings! Thanks for this. Really helps with my own thoughts about which upgrade pack to get first. I play Rebs and Imps so there are both cash and info overload issues coming with 2.0. You may have just nudged me towards the Empire.

    Btw I'm really looking forward to see the app, I've heard the tie striker would have bombs and i'd really like to see a striker bombing swarm
    Edit : once again, cool content (and cool jacket), keep it up Man!

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 6 lety +2

      Lone Wolfs are more jack-of-all-trade type builds which can carry a list on their own. Aces can do that too but the application is much more narrow.

    @thomasorest512 Před 6 lety

    Great analysis! :) I think that both Biggs and Evan Verlain could be really useful for the up-close and aggro playstyle in the rebel faction - they can both make sure that the right ships survive the first one or two engagements so that your thane/wedge/salm doesn't blow up too early. Do you think Biggs or Evan has more potential for the rebels moving forward into second edition?

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 6 lety

      I'm honestly not sure what to make of Evaan. Seems like a pretty costly ability for just an ok pay-off. Biggs, on the other hand, I can see being of great use in formation flying. Whether that can be achieved alongside a more aggressive strategy remains to be seen. It may arguably be better not to hedge the game plan and keep things simple.

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 6 lety +2

      What the devs have said so far:
      - Resistance is less about group hug tactics and more about hot shots who get internal bonuses from flying well. Less "here's a token for my buddy" and more "I get more tokens for showing off to my buddies".
      - First Order is the Empire on steroids.

    is there any chance we could get a new one these as new factions are released.
    i'd also love if you could do a hangar bay like series doing an archetype analysis for each ship.
    as a new player it can be hard to figure out the different things each ship wants to do from looking at their stats/upgrades.
    love your content though and the hangar bay episodes already do a similar thing.

  • @coda8981
    @coda8981 Před 6 lety

    I mostly agree but... I think up-close combat is for scum. think of Boba Fett, Guri, Talonbane Cobra, and Fenn Rau. They become crazy good in close range.

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 6 lety

      The issue is while Scum do have ships that work well at close range, the Rebellion have both ships that say "I want my buddies to be at close range" and "I work well at close range", providing synergy in the way they fly and the way the faction builds its list. What you're talking about with Scum is more leaning into those Lone Wolf style builds.

      I might be a little bias as I have a CZcams channel %90 devoted to making X-wing content but needless to say I love it. :)
      Second Edition is certainly an excellent time to jump in as the meta is getting scrubbed of most of the more degenerative elements and the game elements are far more accessible.
      Also, you don't need to do any painting and the cost of entry is much lower than most tabletop games. Rules are pretty easy to understand too. I'd recommend reading through the rulebook on FFGs site if you haven't already.

      @@HairyNick whos better, the rebels or resistance

    • @HairyNick
      @HairyNick  Před 5 lety

      Try not to think of each of the factions in terms of being "better" or "worse". They use different play styles and archetypes that suit different players. We don't have a huge amount of info on the Resistance yet, but it seems from what we do know their ships are more about "showing off" tactics, while the Rebellion is more into "I help my buddies" style lists, where they give each friendly ships around them some kind of bonus. It really all boils down to what play style you enjoy.

  • @davelee6002
    @davelee6002 Před 5 lety

    Your pronunciation of "Reaper" is... problematic... 😜😓

  • @Stranglygreen
    @Stranglygreen Před 6 lety +1

    there is a lot of truth in what you say, and its nice to look into, but if you enjoyed a play styles from rev 1, in one faction, your now your pritty muched forced to change your faction to the fation that suports that play style, say your not keen on imprals, but love scum. now you have to play imprail jsut becasue your play style is no longer suported correctly, or coudl be be done better with this differnt faction. vthis limits enjoyment, it also forces you to play ships and factions you would not have picked and so may force you to buy the ships that match that style.
    which i feel is a shame. the loss of diveraty as a casual player is important. not having the point printed on the card is also important. this change only suits competitive play and torniment play its' desasteruse for fun and or casual play. but that just my thoughts other can and will disagree, its just an other reson i dont feel v2 is worth the investmant.
