Beretta APX Carry A1 - New and Improved!

  • Beretta has updated the smallest entry in their APX line, the single stack Carry model, with this new A1 version. The Beretta APX Carry A1 now has a better take-down, a better trigger, and comes Optics ready for your red dot. It also has new slide serrations, which simply makes it better looking. This 9mm still uses the same magazines from the original model.

This pistol is probably a good seller in restricted states, as you can get it for under $300, with the mail in rebate. Everyone is hung up on capacity these days. Unless you’re John Wick, or venturing out into a zombie apocalypse, you’ll typically not need more than 3-5 rounds. If you need 10 plus rounds AND a reload, you REALLY stepped in it deep. Capacity is great, but remember, every round you send down range has a lawyer attached to it.

"you’ll typically not need more than 3-5 rounds." you sounds like a communist California spy. Any real self-defense you want as many as possible. You shouldn't make assumptions on what people would need to defend themselves. States that limit rounds in guns are violating civil rights and committing treason against the United States of America.

I picked this gun up a few weeks ago and when I took it to the range it worked great for a mag or two, then it started not returning fully to battery. Turned out that the striker block was jamming in the down position. I took the slide completely apart and put it back together and it seems fine now. I think when it was assembled the striker block wasn't married to the groove in the striker properly. To Beretta's credit, they offered to take care of it immediately, but I figured it would make a good project! I really dig this handgun. The trigger is not what I'm used to, but once I had a few boxes in and got used to it, I was able to make some pretty great groups! Thanks for the video!

Purchased the New A1 and already my favorite. I have many Micro 9mm's, to include the double stacks like the Sig 365 etc. but this gun is just awesome. Love the trigger for EDC. The serrations are the best of all of them. This gun is extremely under rated. Build quality, shooting characteristics etc. And I love the single stacks. Takes all my Nano magazines with no issues.

I purchased two APX A1 Carry firearms this year. Each cost a total of $234.00, with a $100 rebate from Beretta… but with a major difference… the second one came complete with a mounted Burris FastFire 3 optic! This optic is $229 at Amazon itself. The biggest selling point for me with this pistol over the other higher capacity competitors (ie SIG P365) is the grip. (I own both the original and the A1.) The APX Carry fits my hand where I can shoot it accurately on a consistent basis. The original P365's grip is too small (for me) and difficult for many shooters to master. Who the heck has enough $$ to buy the ammo these days to practice?

My favorite pocket carry. For a $300 gun it’s very hard to beat. Reliable, 500+ round no misfires. Accurate and easy to shoot. Good grip texture, not as snappy as other guns its size, and decent sights. Only cons for me is in the world of micro 9’s the capacity is lacking(8 rounds). Most modern handguns this size have a 10-15 round capacity.

PSA had this for $265+shipping with an additional $100 rebate. For $200 when its all said and done I think it's an unbelievable deal! After about 300-400 rounds of Remington Range and Igman 124gr brass, it has run flawlessly. My only gripe is the trigger but it's not a deal breaker. As soon as I find a nice aftermarket trigger with a better break/set/weight, I will probably swap it out. Oh, and the rear sight did need an adjustment as well coming from the factory but once adjusted it has performed very true, groupings are tight at reasonable distance. Solid conceal piece.

I have some of the newer guns like the Sig 365 and XL. I do not have this newer version of the APX but do have two Nano's and the Carry. Sorry to disagree with you, but the newer guns do not shoot as mild as the Beretta's. They are lovely, well made firearms. Few Parts, and reliable. I have over 15,000 rds through one Nano alone. And I love the DAO trigger of the Nano. I guess you are not a DAO fan, but I would not disparage the Nano/Carry trigger because of this. Heck I actually like the Original Nano best of all. I will most likely get the new Carry after I sell my Sig 365 XL. Just do not like the way the gun feels in my hand nor the recoil or management of the gun Thanks for posting. I like makers that assume one pistol might be a backup and design the magazines from the service pistol to fit the backup pistol. The typical Glock service size 17 or 19 paired with the 26 - the 26 works with both 17 and 19 magazines. On the other hand that’s not how Smith & Wesson played the game with their ground breaking Shield single stack. It’s fairer to compare this to the original Shield than to the stack-and-a-half designs that have taken over the micro-nine market. That having been said I believe this is manufactured in Tennessee and when they are legal here, and if still going for a bargain, I’ll get one. It’s a Beretta for a song!

TY for the review. I wish they had kept the beefy serrations to keep it similar to the other APX models. Do they have replacement aftermarket triggers for this model yet? What is the hole behind the slide lock/release? Is the texture on the sides of the grip as aggressive as that on the M&P Shield 2.0? I like the grip texture on the front and back and will often add grip texture tape on the front and back of my other guns while leaving it off the sides. Finally, as far as you know, do they offer “fun sticks” or even aftermarket baseplates that add a few more capacity for this or any other APX models? Always appreciate your reviews and your soothing narration voice.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  Před 2 lety +1

I am not aware of aftermarket triggers yet, at least from the major companies I tend to use. The serrations are not aggressive enough to beat you up but the gun does stay put. They are more like the Glocks than the S&W as S&W favors their sandpaper style texture instead of the pyramids/blocks like some others. I am not aware of any current extentions for this, and it might be unlikely as the true single-stack nature of it will limit the capacity. With the advent of the things like the Shield Plus, Hellcate and others that get 10+ rounds stock in the same form factor, I would be suprised if the aftermarket actually spends much effort on these.

Without a manual safety version, the APX Carry A1 is just another example of an unsafe sub-compact striker-fired pistol at risk of inflicting a so called "Glock leg", i.e. shooting yourself in the leg when drawing or holstering the gun if your finger is on the trigger despite intensive training. Sig Sauer and S&W have recognized this and are now offering their P365 and Shield with a manual safety. I would never buy an APX Carry A1 without such a safety.

@@Killian665 Too little training? For what? For a weapon that is inherently less safe as a pre-cocked striker-fired pistol without a manual safety than a version with a manual safety?
I prefer to exercise unlocking the safety when drawing the gun and using the manual safety before putting the gun back. Such training makes much more sense and is always safer than any training with a generally less safe striker-fired pistol without a manual safety.
And what if I just want to carry such a small gun - its size makes it suitable - in my trouser pocket, but there is an object there - e.g. car keys - which then sits between the trigger and the trigger guard? Then the "Glock leg" says hello...
With an activated safety lever, this is impossible and any additional training to avoid such an incident is absolutely unnecessary.
Once again: without a manual safety, the Beretta APX Carry A1 is another superfluous, unsafe pre-cocked striker-fired pistol.

Holster better than safety, impossible not to notice it isn’t on. Safety is tiny and also hard to read under stress since some models operate in opposite direction. Most safeties don’t even have red dots for hot. Some noobs think red means “stopped” like a traffic light, not “ready to fire”. However if you are separated from a suitable holster a safety is invaluable. Also some safeties allow chambering and ejecting with the slide, meaning less risk of poor finger discipline entering the trigger zone.

If beretta made this in a stagger double stack increase capacity to 10rds this be a good seller. But as is really not a seller better options. The old ruger lc9cheaper, kahr cm9 smaller, p365 more capacity

Actually own 4 Kahr's and a fan boy. Also own the 365. One take away that I know about the Beretta APX1 carry is the build quality is extremely top of the line. Almost to the point of over built. I love the Kahr's, love the trigger and light weight. The 365 will go before the Kahr and both will go before the Beretta. The APX A1 Carry is one of the best deals on a firearm I have purchased in decades of shooting. Very under-rated. And I love the Trigger. They break in to be extremely smooth. Reliability is also superb.

Also says +P and +P+ are ok despite there being no standard for +P+ and Beretta warns service life will shorten (apparently Winchester makes +P+ rounds for law enforcement only, but you would want to avoid +P+ unless the ammo maker certified it for your exact model; Underwood and Buffalo Bore +P should be enough). The online manual said NEVER mix lead bullets with FMJ, thoroughly clean barrel after any use of lead bullets.

Capacity is a marketing ploy. Statistics of actual shootings show only a few rounds are fired. The idea that the average citizen is going to be firing more rounds than 2 single stack mags can hold is not realistic. In fact, good luck to anyone who ever does fire that many rounds. Truthfully, capacity is being used to sell guns to members of the gun community who have already bought and carried perfectly good single stacks. This is a gun that offers Beretta quality for 399.00. if anyone with a single stack feels the need for more rounds, they can always buy another magazine.

    • @JacksonWalter735

This is so interesting for me to read. When I was working at Scheels for every summer since 2019 during summer break at school, we sell so much more single stacks compared to Hellcat and P365 series, and later those including the Shield Plus, Ruger Max-9, Taurus GX4, Kimber Mako, and Ruger LCP Max. This is even more true if you add the Glock 43x to it if you consider that a single stack. The Glock 43, S&W Shield 2.0, Ruger LC9S/Pro, LCP, S&W Bodyguard, Walther PPS M2, Kahr PM9/CM9, Beretta APX Carry, FN 503, Kimber Micro 9 (380 version as well), Sig P238, Sig P938, and so forth sold substantially more overall compared to the microcompacts. There are a few reasons I could think of for this (nothing scientific though and it's all speculation). The single stacks are usually cheaper, they can arm multiple people at a lower price, Scheels is also a sporting good store so we get many casual buyers, during covid when people were panic buying the single stacks consistently got more stock in, they prefer different calibers for self defense (microcompacts only came in 9mm until the LCP Max), some people don't care for increased capacity in their smaller pistols (I notice that many of these people aren't gun guys like us or they're used to having less capacity), and so forth. I wonder how this will look like this summer when I work there for my final summer before I graduate. We have more affordable options for microcompacts like the Taurus GX4 (which just came out when I was still working this past summer) that could be found for around $300, all the microcompacts lowering down in price now that demand is slowing from covid's panic buying, rebates and specials are coming back, and potentially more gun manufacturers releasing their microcompacts. Can't wait to find out.

And, that's if all of those rounds hit their intended target and are able to stop the threat. All that combined with moving attackers and hopefully you are moving too, makes for misses. Add to that layers of winter clothing and reduced sight radius and penetrating velocity from a 3" barrel and you are "needing" higher capacity.
