@@digitalT83 Exactly, today's cars feel smooth but those McLarens seemed to be quite hard to keep on track. But other cars were even worse at that time...
That's probably a test they did that morning. In the race he used much more conventional ratios. 5th gear in Raidillion is unthinkable lol. Behind Schumacher he was in max revs in 6th gear at the same spot with a very short 7th.
Yeah well Spa is one of the faster circuts with longer straights which makes sense to have more speed over acceleration. Compared to Mika's 2001 car though the gears for 2001 were alot shorter
Both 1999 and 2000 cars used long gearing on purpose due to the low mechanical grip which they had available. In 2001 cars got traction control and tire war returned, which meant they could go more aggressive on the gearing.
What a glorious sounding machine.
The car feel so smooth
it was all over the place, still faster than the rest though

Something about these cars today's simply don't have
Senya(Miku) Hakkinen
Too long gears
FichDichInDemArsch maybe he means 7th being so long, but that's needed if the driver gets a slipstream

POB 44 Merci !!
Significantly safer, and better for racing, than the butchered version we have nowadays.
What are you smoking and where can I get some
