Not sure who asked, but THANK YOU. And thanks Ben for the video! :)
Very well explained! Leaf mulch is fantastic! Since my garden is located on a windy hill my leaves blow away, but I collect bags of leaves from all over my nearby villages and nabors :) A win win deal!
Hi Ben, bless you⭐ - just to say thanks a lot for this informative video about garden mulch, I will be coming back to re-watch this video many times until I have fully grasped the whole process properly. Happy gardening 🥰- Maggie x
Thanks a mil!!!! That was so informative and educational! Much appreciated!
I’m glad you found it useful
For me, the secrets of gardening are compost and mulch. I garden in the American South where the natural soil is sticky clay. My lot is small and we have an HOA, which mean that big compost bins aren’t allowed or feasible. Accordingly I buy the best compost and mulch I can and try not to brood about micro plastics or chemicals not lusted on the bags. I’m trying to keep the perfect from being the enemy of the good. Just an afterthought - in the Deep South we also mulch in the summer to keep the soil cooler.

❤throughly enjoyed ❤❤❤ needed this.
Thankyou this was great easy to understand
I bought organic wood chips for my garden to stop weed problem and also to keep moisture on the ground during hot summer in Glasgow (thanks to global warming 😩). But I was told yesterday not to use it near roses especially because wood chips consume nitrogen in the soil. Any advice to stop that problem? Maybe mix wood chips with some compost?
No issue what so ever as far as I’m
Concerned adding huge quantities over a very long period of time can alter the pH balance of your soil but only you can judge when it needs to be redressed feeding your soil with any organic matter. It’s always going to have a positive impact on its structure and its nutritional value to your plants.
Hi Ben. Many thanks for the video, mulching is something I do all year round with horse manure and home compost in February, grass cuttings throughout mowing season, as many leaves as I can gather in the autumn, it all goes on the garden and apparently the soil eats it up. I do have a question about 2 bare root roses, which will be delivered soon. My region here in the North of France has been battered with a conveyor belt of rain and storms relentlessly for over a month now. The surrounding fields are now lakes. Fortunately, I'm on a hill, and my garden slopes a little. But my soil is saturated as you can well imagine. Can you tell me how you would take care of these 2 roses, Pilgrim and Gertrude Jekyll, until they can be planted in the ground? Many thanks in advance.
I garden in South West France where the soil is sticky clay. In fact clay soil is widespread in a lot of France and yet unlike Britain, you can't seem to source gardener's grit as a mulch or to mix in to improve drainage..
The issue with adding horticultural or drainage great is the fact it has no nutritional value to the soil whatsoever. By adding an organic mulch. You will open up the soil structure by mulching deeply every year after a period of four or five years, Mark, my words, your soil will be completely different at the soil creatures, do the hard work
Thank you Ben. @@the_gardenerben
@@monevaluation4716 do let me know how you get on 💚
Hello Ben. I mulched a large amount of leaves and grass clipping. I placed them around my roses. I know you mentioned the risk of block spot. So can you clear that up for me. Leaf mulch around roses? Or keep away from roses. BTW happy for your decision to relocate to The States. So many lovely areas to explore here.
Leaf mulch ✅fallen rose leaves ⛔️
The Dallas zoo gives herbivore poop to a company to make compost. I’m planning on using that in March to mix with my wood mulch. What do you think? Would you recommend this?
Sounds like a good plan
@@the_gardenerben Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for your comment it’s not something you’re gonna be able to get from me I’m afraid although I can try and guide you unless I experience growing conditions like that myself it’s not something I would feel comfortable advising you on the information I offer is based on my horticultural degreeand my 25 year growing experience next year will see us move to America where weather conditions will be more extreme. Be able to bring you a different perspective then
For now, please do watch my best for heat collection. You’ll find it here on my CZcams channel but temperatures in the UK I have never and I hope will never reach that kind of level.

If your looking for yellow, it would definitely have to be Molineux
