Im an American who never watched or even heard of this show untill last week. Since that first video I think I've officially watched almost every video on youtube that has clips of this show. It's so fucking good and god damn is the talent on here fucking awesome. What a great show.
Unfortunately I've worked at places where they've sent us on bloody courses like this. I know that's the point of the comedy but it brought back lots of feelings of anger. Not for my repressive mother but the stupid arrogant pricks who run courses like this.
I'm sure it's scripted, and it's a brilliant detail. He does a giggle to get a reaction over the absurdity of the situation, and at least Christine responds. Them mirroring him adds to his already immense authority.
ProjectFlashlight612 sorry for that but I just thought your comment was a little short sighted - sure, he’s annoying as shit but he’s still popular today!
cái hay của phúc đó giọng hất rất tình cảm , mỗi bài hát là bạn ấy thả hết tâm hồn và tình cảm vậy , và thể hết giống như mình đã từng trải nghiệm , i love you
can i borrow a stapler please. I worked in an office for 40 years i wonder how often i must have said that. Hes not gay we would not employ a homosexual.
A staple? Did you deliberately mishear 'stapler'? If you did, that's quite funny - the idea of borrowing one staple. But I doubt if you ever heard that even once in 40 years.
Gervais is an example of a horribly overrated hack. All the people who worked on the Day Today and Brass Eye are immeasurably more talented than him, they just didn't milk what they did.
+eddie lasowsky It's a bit rich to label Gervais as 'a horribly overrated hack. He did after all win awards for his excellent Office series and then went onto further success with Extras, plus film roles and standup comedy success on both sides of the Atlantic. Much as I love all the characters in The Day Today, especially Coogan, the scenarios featured in these clips are more to do with light-hearted and zany gags for the sake of laughter only, whereas Gervais and Merchant's Office series was a multi level affair often containing black comedy, drama, and an observation of human failings including racism, sexism and egotism etc.
Dunno about it being a blatant rip off, but it may have helped to inspire him. Personally, I always thought it was more like Partridge: a mocumentary centred around a cringeworthy character with just a sliver of self awareness, who dreams of hitting the showbiz heights. Gervais' work seems to have gone hill since The Office got bigger and bigger in America. Not sure he's as committed to his work as much as he is to chat shows in the States. 'Throw Les Dennis or Karl Pilkington into it..."
So basically Gervais took this Office and a bit of Alan Partridge (he first featured in the Day Today as well) circa '94, mixed it up and got his own take on the Office? Think that's a bit more than just 'inspiring' them.
Well what's going on here in this video is they've got a "management guru" in to crush their spirits and destroy their souls. Hilarity naturally ensues.
Favourite line-
'you've got no sense of humour and you're alway's there'
"Christine, hit Anthony."
Good... good.
Coogans Scottish accent is flawless.
The whole cast of the day today was just superb
Coogan, Morris, Marber, Front, Mackichan, Schneider - what talent and that’s just the onscreen talent.
"Buy a paper Anthony!" The Day Today is Comedy at it's very best. Infact, everything that Chris Morris touches is pure gold.
His last Film was shit tbh.
This is like a foreshadowing parody of the office and the apprentice lol.
Chris Morris's voiceover here is a nailed on impression of Anthony Clare the psychiatrist who used to narrate science programmes like QED in the 80s.
Absolutely brilliant. Lester Beck hahaha. I defy anyone today ... all these years later who doesn't find this hilarious.
Best line: “It is standard practice at Events International to intertextualise with a pig.”
"Get a knife!", hilarious!
Only coogan would make that funny
The pig doesn't care about you, but you care about the pig. This is your problem.

That’s what she said
Have you watched Brass Eye yet?
Gervais pinched the idea of The Office, even the title.
'let's just put some paper down and keep it happy'
Yes because if there's one thing pigs like, it's paper.
The first time I saw this back in 94, I was laughing at that line for about a week. There is something about the way Coogan delivers it
badhead yeh it is great, and thank you for all the classic kermodes
Let's KICK.... some ASS.... into LIFE!
That's SO The Day Today.
And SO Chris Morris.
Don't worry, we wouldn't employ a homosexual - lmao
6:10 through to 7:13 is fantastic, god. Superb writing and acting
Chris moris. Pure genius. And everyone else.
I WISH we got so much more Lester beck stuff after this lol
My old workplace needed this
Unfortunately I've worked at places where they've sent us on bloody courses like this. I know that's the point of the comedy but it brought back lots of feelings of anger. Not for my repressive mother but the stupid arrogant pricks who run courses like this.
They’re cults.
Let's come kick some asss in to life
who shakes someone's hand when they buy a paper? lol
The British 😁
Is that Peter O'hanrahanrahan?
yes it is
O'hanrahahanrahan*
@@JakeTVSalesman O'hanraha-hanrahan
Intertextualize the pig ! What episode is this ?! ' the day today ' is the peak of British humor . Genius

~ 4:20 I don't know if Patrick Marber's laugh there was scripted but it looks like he's cracking up. :D
I'm sure it's scripted, and it's a brilliant detail. He does a giggle to get a reaction over the absurdity of the situation, and at least Christine responds. Them mirroring him adds to his already immense authority.
"Alright I've got it. I've got the mirror! I'VE GOT THE MIRROR!" - "Christine hit Anthony" - "Uhm! Uhm! Uhm!" - Poor Anthony!
Love the way the narrator says 'techniques'.
Gervais was watching this while making notes
Including literally stealing the title lol
"You're hairy... and lonely"
And yes Gervais must have taken from this , he couldn't not have, same set up, same cameras, same type face . ...
Gervais is a fucking thief. Think about it. Almost 2020, and literally no-one gives two shits about tubby little Ricky anymore.
ProjectFlashlight612 one of the biggest Netflix stars of our day, nope no one cares about him
@@djkrptdnb Sarcasm...delightful
ProjectFlashlight612 sorry for that but I just thought your comment was a little short sighted - sure, he’s annoying as shit but he’s still popular today!
I'm going to suggest that the title was put in by the poster?
'Release the pig!'
"When you go to the toilet, do you have an Armitage Shanks interface defecation scenario, or do you just have a shit?" 😂
Gervais also stole the look for the "Are you 'avin' a laugh?," guy from Extras.
"The pig that's pig that's our anger?"
"Our internal pig?".
No, a real pig.
Buy a paper Anthony!!!!
Well, i, I, I... I got a question, CAN I JUST...
Really good. Thanks
Never noticed until now that the Irish-accented voiceover is done by CM himself...
cheers for this!!!
cái hay của phúc đó giọng hất rất tình cảm , mỗi bài hát là bạn ấy thả hết tâm hồn và tình cảm vậy , và thể hết giống như mình đã từng trải nghiệm , i love you
Bloody hell! Big Pat Marber.
I have a link to Rebecca Front. She was at Ilford County High School for Girls and I was at Ilford County High School for Boys.
Brilliant
Great!
2:00 wild stuff! Hilarious but when you think about it this stuff is classic struggle session stuff
BUY A PAPER ANTHONY! Buy a Paper!
This really is a valued-comment, makes good sense.
David Brent stole the brown leather jacket idea from Neil Godwin, who we now know stole it from Lester Beck
I’m just picturing Boris Johnson in there “Um, um, um, um.”
“ERM, ERM, ERM, ERM!”
Almost forgot how stunning Doon was,,,almost.
Windsor is near Slough - so I've no doubt where they got the paper from for the pig
7:15 Mmm, the sound of a cherry switch keyboard.
Never noticed that, even after dozens and dozens of watches. Always too wrapped up in Anthony's comedy meltdown - "I've got The Mirror!"
You’ve stolen The Mirror!
Your sarcasm is noted. :)
Brilliant accent from partridge
Scientology in action
Let's get it into the present
An Office in Windsor hey, awfully close to Slough.
If only they'd developed this into a full series like Steve did with Knowing me Knowing you - what do you think Anthony? Err.
It's called The Office by Gervais (a comment from 3 years in the future)
Yes, and Ho!
Predicting The Apprentice.....
love the epic mind-fuck at 6:29
The day today news feltch!!!
Where did you gooo
Lester O’hanra’hanrahan
This is so perfect. Do the yanks get this? They had a seperate office and top gear. I don't get either of them.
We get it & it’s hilarious init
Cheerio guv’nor
Mammys gone
I felt sorry for John!
"Are we human?" Or are we dancer?
@TheBootywest no worries ;)
see operation good guys for where the office took inspiration
News feltch. lol
Christine hit Anthony
Haha Steve Coogan
1:05 Or are we dancer?
What does it mean to be not human? I shall leave that question for you lot to answer. 😁
This shit is hilarious
I think you'll find it's spelt 'skit' (except in Scandinavia).
"Them again."
To be fair he was saying umm not err.
@FourJamLions Brass eye.
It's definitely Scottish. You must be American or something.
I thought this was from _Brass Eye_ as opposed to _The Day Today_
no
at around 4.00 he literally says "were back to the day today documentary etc". kinda gives it away which programme it is
Errrrrrrrrrrr !!
ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I wonder if Gervais saw this? Blatant rip! Extras was funnier though and (as far as I know) all Gervais' own work.
And Extras has a lot of similarities to Curb your Enthusiasm. Oh sorry, 'influences'.
Err! Errr!

Do you think this came AFTER the office then?
This is too disturbing to be funny.
Who's to say the two are mutually exclusive?
Gervais is an example of a horribly overrated hack. All the people who worked on the Day Today and Brass Eye are immeasurably more talented than him, they just didn't milk what they did.
