      I don't find often songs that move me like this song.
      Music is quite simple for metal style of writing, but in the whole the song is so well written that i just keep coming back to it. Love the lyrics even though i focus at lyrics very little when enjoying metal

    One interesting fun fact that might tickle you, Marco Hietala from Nightwish produced some of their albums (around the Skyforger era) and helped refine Tomi Jotusen's clean vocals for those albums and live performances

      They also regularly tour with Amorphis. I think the europe leg next year will be with Amorphis and Turmion Kätilöt. They toured...I think it was 2013..with Amorphis and Arch Enemy as support, which was probably a bit too heavy for the regular Nightwish audience when I remember the reactions ^^ And Marco also helped producing some Delain albums as well, which is a great band by the way ;)

      @@brothernemiel6465 Dunno about it being too heavy for the Nightwish crowd. I was at one of the concerts (in Luxembourg, it was 2015 btw) and the fans had a blast with all three bands. Only problem was, that I had taken my then 9-year-old daughter with me and while she loved Amorphis (and of course, Nightwish), I could have prepared her better for Arch Enemy, so it ended with us leaving the main concert hall during that gig and only returning to it, when Nightwish started. I'm not sure if next year, we're already at a state where live concerts are a thing again, but I'd love to repeat that experience with my daughter (and she has already seen Turmion Katilöt opening for Beast in Black, so this time, everything should be fine :D)

    Tomi is legendary. I was once informed that Tomi is sometimes referred to by friends as "multakurkku" (mud throat), which is a word play on kultakurkku (gold throat, refers to a beautiful singing voice). Because his growling sound is straight from the gutter 😂

    I confess that I've never been a fan of harsh vocals, since my taste has always leaned toward power/symphonic/classic metal. But lately I've been slowly warming up to stuff like Arch Enemy, Immortal, and Dimmu Borgir. This is my first time listening to Amorphis, and it definitely sounds like something I could listen to every now and then!

    • @Garbox80
      @Garbox80 Před 3 lety +8

      I wasn't a fan of growls also, but I've liked Amorphis since the mid 90's. Those clean vocals balance it out so nicely. And now of course Floor's growling bits and Jinjer are on my radar, but Arch Enemy (at least what I've heard from them) is still a bit too much. Music wise great, but all growls makes it too heavy to listen to regularily.
      One BIG plus in Tomi's growls is that I can easily understand most of what he's singing.

    • @Eluarelon
      @Eluarelon Před 3 lety +3

      I was the same, though I stopped listening to metal around the time Grunge became a thing ( I basically stopped listening to music completely, so it's not Kurt Cobain's fault^^). Didn't return to it until 2013 I think, and the first two albums that I listened to were Stone Sour's House of Gold and Bones part 1 and Amorphis' Circle. Both albums completely changed my mind and in the meantime, I can't even explain to myself that there was that time when I couldn't even listen to thrash metal because even Metallica's Master of Puppets sounded like Noise to my ears. today I love harsh vocals though my preference is when you have them mixed with clean vocals because of the dynamics that creates. Which probably explains why Tomi Joutsen and Mikael Stanne are my favorite singers as of right now.

    • @Xydroos
      @Xydroos Před 3 lety

      Maybe try Wintersun "Sons of winter and stars" and "Time", both have quite "clean" harsh vocals where it's easier hear wording behind it. When you have listened more harsh vocals you ears start to pick up more words and it gets easier to "listen" lyrics. Well both song are good without lyrics, so if can't understand everything they work as instruments also. PS with lyrics i mean singing where you can understand wording.

    Seen Amorphis multiple times and they are one of the few bands that actually sound live as good as in albums. The talent is phenomenal. And Tomi....well...the best growler EVER. And his clears are amazing too.

    @s1lentsymphony607 Před 3 lety +5

    I seriously hope these guys get even bigger. I love the personal, intimate bar shows. But god damn. They deserve a big stage like this, and a massive audience, because i'm not kidding when I say I have seen them 4 separate times and they are one of my favourite live performances.
    There's a certain beauty in their musicality, and the way they do things. Their writer is clearly ridiculously talented. Tomi's voice is so ridiculous, those deep as hell growls, and amazing soaring clean vocals. It would not be the same without both vocal types.
    Kultti, buddy. You killed it. Tank, this was a great reaction, and i'm looking forward to your next one. Black Winter Day is a fantastic recommendation, it is a HEAVY song from their old days.

    Add-on!!!!! Your t-shirt remind me the band Enforce... Early prog metal with some very interesting songs.
    Enforce was a band from Baltimore that was formed by Nick Ellingson and Cliff Saunders back in 1987. The line up consisted of Lonnie Fletcher - vocals, Nick Ellingson - Guitar, Jody Lewis - Bass, Charles Parker - Keys, and Cliff Saunders - Drums. The band played the east coast and opened for acts like Dream Theater, Pat Travers, and headlined several A clubs. The band recorded 2 demo tapes and were included in the CD compilation "Metal Molten Monsters 1" created by Keith Menser of Seigen records. Their original music was compared to Queensryche, Dream Theater, and Fates Warning. The band finally disbanded in 1993 after Heavy Metal music diminished with rap and grunge taking the front.

    Growing up in the 70s and listening to the classic rock bands back then, I've got to say Amorphis are one of the best bands I've heard in the past 20 years. First heard Eclipse back in 2006 and some of the most catchiest, melodic metal I'd ever heard. Some would probably say that was a departure from the 90s material but they've kept the quality up over the years.

    I seen these guys play live on Oct. 5, 2019 with Delain and Anneke van Giersbergen. I even participated with the meet and greet with everyone. This was at Venue in Vancouver, BC. These guys were a great group to talk to, and not many people were rushing them. So I got to talk to each person. That was awesome.
    Also, on that NA Tour, until that day, Delain’s drummer Joey had been missing because he didn’t have his paperwork done properly to enter Canada. So Jan from Amorphis was filling in for Delains’ set. That very night, 3/4 through the concert, Joey made it!!!! Charlotte Wessels (Delain) told us Joey’s story of a week of HELL of staying at hostel’s, airports, taking multiple flights, fighting his way to catch up with the tour, and everyone got the news mid show that he was there! He walked out, and the crowd went insane! Anyways, it was a good show, and the last one I went to before everything has shut down.

And we are all here to watch your reactions/analysis of different bands. It would be almost imo\possivle to like EVERYTHING, and every band the same amount. Love from Norway Ps, this band was GREAT!

    Tomi is such a great vocalist, one of my pref. He can go from smooth clean vocal to awesome growl. When I started listening to Amorphis, I thought there were two different singers...no, it's just Tomi!

    Those vocals always go to my soul and touch something deep in there, both the clean and the growls. Thank you for getting back to Amorphis! "Forging a Land of Thousand Lakes" DVD (Oulu) has nice audio. I especially recommend Silver Bride and Majestic Beast.

    I haven't really listened to Amorphis since the 90's. A black winter day was the very first metal song I heard. But the love is definitely starting to come back. So in a way it's thanks to Amorphis, that I'm sitting here right now, watching your videos.
    I've always loved a rich, full growl and this definitely delivers. Also it's very rare to find a singer with both a good growl, and a gorgeous regular voice.
    And to finish it off, I would absolutely pay to see an Amorphis/the Hu collaboration.

    First, thanks for reacting to one of my favourites. Very happy to see you mentioned Kalevala, it's such a big source of inspiration for Amorphis. And also because I'm into mythologies, and unsurprisingly the Finnish one is especially dear to me 😁
    P.S. If anyone unfamiliar with Kalevala wants to know what the bee did, you'll find out if you read about Lemminkäinen 😊

    On the subject of the microphones: Tomi did use that enormous mic during live shows in the past, but I saw them in January in Holland with Dimmu Borgir (remember concerts?) and was also very surprised he used a "normal" live mic now. I saw some comments recommending the Amongst Stars video, totally agree, that's an amazing song!

    Tommy Joutsens voice is a farourite of mine since many many years, but as a matter of fact I'm from Europe, so they came by waaayyy earlier to my eras :D
    A good quality live performance is Bad Blood, (official live video) here on youtube. There He's actually using the custom mic ;)

    Fantastic reaction Tank. Amorphis have been consistently one of my fave bands since I first heard them in 1996.
    I completely agree with you about Tomi’s vocals, his growls are so rich and deep but then his clean vocals are so melodious and melancholic and emotive, it’s no surprise that they strike a sensitive chord. You may find that you get the same “feels” from the song Silent Waters.
    The Bee is undoubtedly one of their best songs, and that riff is incredible and gives you goosebumps. What I love with Amorphis is the multi layered sound and combined genres almost, at times they sound like death metal, folk metal, prog rock, symphonic metal respectively, yet it all blends perfectly.
    So many amazing songs to choose from that it’s hard to just pick a handful, but I’d try : -
    Silent Waters
    House Of Sleep
    Sky Is Mine
    You I Need
    Oh and Tank, Orden Ogan awaits! 🤘🏻🙂👍🏻

    Great band, I saw them live as a warm-up for Nightwish in Vienna. The singer had a really great microphone, looked like a part of a tree. Like Groot 😁 "Silver bride" is also an excellent song of theirs.
    Well, just doing small talk, actually I am here to watch Tank❤😋😍
