That's my late Uncle Bert shouting for the ambulance. He'd been an extra for years and started occasionally getting lines around the allotment. He hangs around the Nags Head in loads of Only Fooks and Horses too.

Always found it odd that Peggy would bang on about “us Mitchell’s” when she was married into the family rather than an actual Mitchell
not really no;women would typically take on the family they marry into and become the matriarch of such. When she says us Mitchells she refers to herself and her kids and her ex husband.

yea pauline started off as merry and happy but the years of hardship had taken its toll and in her last 7 or 8 years or so she became increasingly cold and bitter.
Poor Arthur, he had always been dogged by bad luck and it followed him right to the end. At least though, Arthur died on the allotment that he had loved so much rather than in prison. Rest In Peace to Bill Treacher, the actor who played him.
Trivia fact: Arthur's collapse was referenced in a BT commercial back in 1997. I remember vividly that Bill Treacher(Arthur) and various former Eastender actors each receiving a phone call from Letitia Dean(Sharon Watts), and when it came to Treacher he is seen working on an allotment answering his mobile phone to Dean mildly joking "I tell you, this digging lark is gonna do me in!"

He was born in 1943 died in the 90s so was less than 60 when he died. So he wasn't exactly old.
Some people find the death of a character they have enjoyed watching for years sad without the need for violence and/or youth. Weird huh?
He was a very lovable character and many people enjoyed him and Pauline
The original Beale/Fowler family were central back in the mid 80s when the show first started, so for people who had tuned in day after day to see the lives of these eastenders it was quite sad
Arthur was only 52 at the time of his death. As his son Mark said bitterly to wife Ruth “That man (Willy Roper) killed my dad. He had years ahead of him. Willy Roper stole those years”. And when Ruth said he should not hate Willy Roper forever, Mark replied “You want to bet?”
