Take a shot everytime Asmon says:”Alot of people like this game, I havent really played it though.”
I would pass out.
Have mercy on my liver man
I would die but worth it.
Anybody surprised he picked the black guy as streamer of the year? I'm not
i ded
Ah yes let me see what Asmon votes for GOTY out of a list of games NONE of which he played
You didnt have to play BG3 to see its impact. People who never played a CRPG in their lives were picking it up. You can also talk about the absolute metric shit ton of content the game has for $60, making it one of the best values on the market. Its not fucking close and you cant even make an argument for any of the others.
@@asmodeus4207yes you can lol
To be fair, he's not actually placing a vote, just talking about the games.
@asmodeus4207 yeah game had a solid 150 hours for a single playthrough and the whole thing was great
@@asmodeus4207 You ar3e the etype of people who just agrees with everyone. Not saying BG3 is bad but he should at least play those games before taking those votes (or not, nobody cares). I love how he describes Zelda TotK as "It is just BotW with construction". or Hi-Fi rush as "it is cyberpunk cartoon"
Also you can see clearly how he simps for any soulsgame (or from soft game) without giving a second though.
They need a "Worst GOTY" and present it at a random time so people don't know which award is coming up next. Everyone would be just waiting for that award so they can laugh.
games that are considered the worst of the year already cause whole development teams to shut down or mass employee lay offs, not sure if its the best idea to make a segment just to make fun of them. Fun for the audience, not fun for the devs or the team
@@marcochen9117 Maybe a Worst Successful GOTY? Which profitable game was the worst.
@@Shalakor at that point you're just trivializing the entire show, there's already a big opposition to award shows nowadays and this would only add to more lack of professionalism
I mean movies do have Razzie awards.
28:07 I think the game that deserves to win, should win, regardless how many times. It's just spiteful to deny a game's accomplishment just because you feel like the others should win out of pity.
His logic is dumb af. Imagine the Olympics if you could only win 1 gold medal per event so that "other" countries can feel included...🤦
yeah it is pretty dumb.
Asmond forgets things like artists and composers exist. People that would love some recognition for their amazing work they did.
But because they happened to be also in the game of the year means they shouldn't get that?
A shit game could still have the best soundtrack and best game also does not mean you have the best soundtrack.
It doesn’t deserve categories such as music though.
@@anormalguy8407 right. Which ever one deserves it should win. Period. There shouldn't be any other factor.
@@Sephirothkingdom782 Even tho i do love BG3 music it is true, that they do not have the best music at all.
The problem with Asmon is that when he's not playing anything, he's thinking about Cyberpunk, but when he's playing Cyberpunk, he's thinking about Wow.
addicted, simple. he played that garbage for 20 years, in which 10 of them have been shit, he realizes what a good game can actually be when thinking about CP2077, the playerbase doesn't even care about the game at this point, it's just something they do, like the way you wash your hands after a piss.
@@Myhaay CP2077 isnt a good game tho, it was marketed on lies and is mediocre at best
@@GenericUsername-qp1ww don't state opinions as facts, you don't like it and that's fine, the release was bad affects my point how?
the only reason it was such a big deal is because they are the guys that made witcher 3, if bethesda released something like that people would just laugh and joke it off (i.e Starfield). braindead mentality.
it is an objectively good game, just like world of warcraft was, even though i personally didn't like it, the world doesn't revolve around you bro, take a step back.
@@GenericUsername-qp1ww
Do you live under a rock?
@@Myhaay CP2077 is straight up NOT what CDPR advertised it as, they claimed it would be a 'next-gen RPG' and then not only delivered us a ridiculously overpriced Keanu Reeves movie but the RPG aspects are non-existent. if CP2077 is what CDPR thinks a 'next-gen RPG' is like then mayb they should stick to current-gen as they've proven incompetent at making a next-gen RPG
Out of all the amazing games that came out this year, the one game Asmon put his time in to was Starfield 💀
It depends, if you remove the loading screens then he had spent more time on BG3 than on starfield
Yikes 😬😬😬😬
he did play hogwarts legacy too
Starfield is a simplistic game. Not much backseating and things to stress him out. I think it's probably the reason he was able to play it more than a game like Cyberpunk that can be confusing with it's skill trees and sheer amount of quests.
@@atrocious7766 The problem is thinking skill trees are confusing.. just read its 100% self explanatory.
SF6 accessibility is really impressive. A blind person was taking games off of people at EVO with a blindfold on.
I do feel that Hi-Fi Rush should have been on the list for best art direction. Creating a game where the literal environment has to keep pace with the beat is such a monumental amount of work and it’s just great to see a game that’s so bright and colorful.
Yes, it feels like the officials don’t have their finger on the pulse of what the term “art direction” means or what is impressive to audiences
But it literally was a nomination for best art direction?
@@frosthammer917 GAH I was looking at game directions list instead of art direction list! My bad.
The fact that Rise of Kong wasn't AT LEAST nominated for GOTY is so crazy to me.
And gollum
There needs to be a category for best meme game.
They can’t do that, else they would have to put Rise of Kong and Alan Wake 2 in the same category.
worst game of the year category.
You're missing forspoken, best game ever.
Part of the reason that Baldur's gate 3 had such good performances is because they have incredible character animations. I don't know how much of it is reused as it pertains to the body motions and language but they definitely have hundreds of permutations, it always feels natural in Baldur's gate 3.
It's all mo-cap, so it's no wonder why it turned out amazing
have you ever seen Jaheera ingame? she is waving with her arms all the time looking completely ridiculous. but besides her, yes, character motion is the best ive ever seen.
meanwhile every time i see my friends druid on screen in a cutscene i laugh at how derpy the expressions are.

@@Wunderhass Yeah and it was still the best game in that year too, moot point
I would love to see baldurs gate 3 win every award just to show companies that people want a complete game with no micro transactions crap shoved in
Yes, exactly
I still feel like some of the old bioware games are more enjoyable than baldurs gate. It's just a genre that has been dead for some time and baldur's gate didn't do anything terribly wrong so people like it. It's not an amazing game though...
@@lushen952it’s amazing, lol one of the most complete and interactive games ever bud. and freedom to do so much with ur chrachter.
@@girthatbirth It's literally just a bioware game there's nothing special about it on a formula basis.
Play DA:O. Each background has its own like 2hr prequel story to start the game that is COMPLETELY separate from one another with an entirely different cast of characters, environments, and story. There's 6 of these.
You can choose which companions you recruit, who lives and dies, and your choices have dramatic consequences in the course of the story. You can save a city and go back there anytime or let it fall and have nearly everyone there die. You can side with a group of elves or side with the werewolves that are trying to kill them. Or even pick a middleground option. Whichever you side with will show up at the end of the game to fight with you.
Baldur's gate isn't new. It's just been a long time since a game like this existed. As far as I'm concerned, nothing tops DA:O and the Mass Effect trilogy...not even close.
Most of the people freaking out over Baldur's gate are just young people that missed the bioware phase. Bioware has sense forgotten itself and Baldur's gate picked up the formula.
And complete games where the devs listen to feedback and actively improve the game with patches bases on said feedback, they implemented a whole new feature to change appearance in the game and an entire new ending with voice acting and new cutscene based on feedback
The reaction to d2 being on the nominee list was priceless, in all seriousness I don't even know how it's even a nomination especially after recent events
I have played it recently you would be suprised to see the improvements, honestly the gameplay is really good if the lighfall story was even decent people would look at the game way different. Its honestly still not a great game but destiny raids are some of the best pve group content that exists.
@@dongdoodler I'm a regular player with over 3000 hours in the game, I've seen these changes but these changes only happen when the game is in a really bad spot, d1's major change was taken king, the first big change for d2 was forsaken's launch then the one after that was witch queen's launch, the most recent time they actually started listening and started making changes that people want was that dumpster fire of a state of the game they made earlier this year that made people leave the game, now they have to get player trust back again because of the shenanigans going on now
Destiny 2 has amazing villains and lore but absolute hot trash management

D4 really deserves that nomination for Innovation and Accessibility. Loading other players stash in the open world is groundbreaking

I think Raphael's Final Act is one of the best boss theme's period.
It really gets the point across that he looks down on you and doesn't see you as a threat in the slightest, until you kick his teeth in.
The vocals were the worst for me , I even cut the music at some point ( did the fight only two time), everyone is different. I'm not saying it is bad but it's too much orchestra imo
@@nauxoh I might agree with you if it were a real time fighting game, however, given that BG3 is turn based i think it enhances the mood of the fight greatly with no negatives (for me).
It really fits a fight with a devil who assumes they're going to mop the floor with you, only for your party to educate him and his cohorts by turning his insides into outsides. It also makes sense for Raphael's pompous character to bring out a grandiose orchestral piece belittling those he thinks of as mere toys in order to intimidate or demoralize them.
@@TimeyWimey. as I said, the music is good and fits the narrative. But it's not my style, I meant no offence
@@nauxohI was just stating why i felt it was a great piece. I took no offence from your previous comment. I can definitely see why some may not like it as its a very extravagant piece played during one of the more difficult fights in the game, resulting in it being distracting.
Thats hilarious guess you've never heard about unwavering belief
I think Ralph Ineson from Diablo 4 and FF16 should have also been nominated for the best performance. Set the tone in both games.
Ralph *was* nominated for supporting actor for FF16 though, deservedly so :)
Ben Starr took best performance for me purely for his ability to bring out extreme emotion in his voice with literally nothing on screen. It's insane.
Its hilarious how Asmon says hes voting for Super Mario Bros for game direction because he says he hasnt played alan wake or totk. The dude literally hasnt played any of the games on his screen and is basing his opinion off of a single video he reacted to. I dont really care which one wins the category, but I just found this funny.
Yeah this video was obnoxious because it's an opinion formed from an attainment of ignorance on the subject.
That being said he knows he has bad takes and it's not serious lol
He noticeably contradicts himself quite a bit in this video. Fortunately, he didn't actually vote and just discussed the games.
This is why gamer votes don't play a huge factor when it comes to who wins. I use to be against this but now I completely understand.
Wait why
@@Wowowoi1 because people usually don't play that many games, so you are just voting for the 1-2 games you actually played, and that's not a fair judgment
@@Wowowoi1 Same reason review bombs happens. Some are justified but it can easily get out of hand.
@@Wowowoi1because you get votes from dudes like this who played pretty much none of these games
@@Wowowoi1 Because it's not a gamer's responsibility to play every game that comes out in a year and yet people can still vote on what they want based on biased/prejudiced opinions without having played half the selection. This isn't a popularity contest (that's what the Golden Joystick awards were, which are 100% fan voted).

I think they need to add more games for each category because from 5 games to choose which is the best is too little
I think if anything wins game of the year or even movie of the year means they won most of the subcategories also. Meaning: it was great all around.
Therefore, other games or movies should be able to win the subcategories.

I think one game that deserves all the awards should win them, for the different departments that played a part. I’ve been saying the same thing about FFXVI not being an RPG and people get UPSET. The weapon upgrades and levels could not be there and the experience would be the same.
Id be happy for ff16 to win in the music and acting categories. Given the stiff competition I could see it winning in those 2.

Baldur's Gate 3 got one of the best receptions I've ever seen in my life. Always happy when a developer nails it with a great title.
Resident Evil 4 killed it also. I had a great time with that game. Bug-free, ran perfect and it was exciting the whole way.
While FF16's soundtrack didn't resonate with me as much as other FF titles, the track, "Lovely, Dark, and Deep" (the track that plays when you and Cyd are going through the forest in Rosaria for the first time) is absolutely gorgeous.
That track also how it speeds up and goes harder when you are engaged in combat and then slows down and back to a more calm melody all done so seemlessly, it's so fucking good.
And the official soundtrack release has both versions in the same track. It's beautiful.@@occiderisaethiopissa3702

"Would you only want a game to win one award?" No...Absolutely not. An analogy. Prior to Return of the King, fantasy as a genre was a goof. Anything nerdy was not popular. Return of the King at the Oscars that year wiped the floor winning in every category it was nominated in (11?) and paved the way for us to have the fantasy genre taken seriously. (Edit - Ok lol. I hadn't made it up to this part of the video where he makes this exact reference.)
Almost 20 years later, Larian drops this monster of a game on the world, and developers everywhere are screaming that people should not expect that level of development in their games. To which I say no. We should. We should expect the developers that are so in love with what they are doing that, as a metaphor, are willing to put in a scene for a bear fucks a vampire. BG3 should be the game that makes that kind of statement to the devs. It should win all 7 categories its nominated in. Not only as a statement, but for the sheer merits that are brought to the table. In every single category that its nominated in, it is far and away better at everything it does. I want to see games win more than one award.

Man started out by saying "im not going to vote for BG3 twice".. the problem now is that you are not evaluating the nominees on their merit and what they have achieved and which one actually deserves each award, which is what should be the goal when giving the awards, but instead you are distributing the awards among the games you think deserve it or might have missed out in other categories, and sure some games deserve recognition and dont win, but we only get a game like BG3 that sweeps everything once in a generation, once we get it in my opinion it deserves ALL the recognition no matter the cost. ESPECIALLY since BG3 is also telling the entire games industry that being ethical works, you can make money and sales without a shop or cosmetics that cost ridiculous amount of money, that being important enough, the game was also beyond words AMAZING, thats why IMO if it sweeps then it sweeps, they deserve it man.

Genshin deserves it. It's a disgrace it can't be nominated for the music (apparently because it's a live service game). It would be winning in that category every year. Whoever talks sh&t about genshin is either a troll, hates anime in general, or has a huge prejudice against the games labeled as "gacha" and judges genshin without even playing it, ever.
Bg 3 has better music. Period.
The reason i want BG3 to win every award it can is because i want it to be the wake up call to cheap AAA studios that its time to put passion back into the industry.
I have the same argument for Alan Wake 2, they did an entire musical just for the sake of a couple of minutes of gameplay, hired a buch of irl artist (not to mention they had Poets Of the Fall), and you dont see the game director face on their own games anymore, Sam Lake was pretty sure he did a good job... But since its a voting (popularity) system, i dont think AW2 will win, but i have no problem at all with BG3 winning.

I understand Zach will not enjoy every single genre to ever exist in video game history, but it certainly helps to avoid burnout of the same archetype when you dive into something new. Additionally, who’s to say you can’t return to MMOs or Soulslike games down the line?
I think, it's all for " Content " , cause reacting videos and just making hot takes, it's entertaining for people... I would love to see him playing more cool games but " It is what it is "
Gotta put robo quest in the double AA catergory, game is fantastic
It makes it more interesting if you can only win one award, but it means award ceremonies have to be restructured to show the most important awards first, which means no one watches to the end lol.
Bg3 was very succesful but I'd argue its still niche enough of a genre that zelda Tears of the kingdom could have it beat.
We already know its either bg3 or zelda anyways. Out of the choices those were the two biggest games this year
Think about it, breath of the wild won goty 2017. And tears of the kingdom took botw and improved apon it in every aspect, adding hundreds of caves, an entire underworld and Upper world, made the world actually feel alive by adding way more npcs, a few new outposts and sidequests that required to help restore areas, a hybrid of traditional dungeons and divine beasts which pleases both old players and new fans from botw.
They made zelda and the master sword actually feel important unlike botw, and the main world from the previous game is completley reworked. People complainee it was just a dlc even tho they literally had to rework the whole entire map and make it look familiar but different for the new mechanics.
They added a physichs mechanic to the game that was so revolutionary and complicated that it pissed off developers from other studios.
I mean the sequel to botw is so good it makes such a popular game like botw seem terrible. Which to an extent botw had some big flaws
Baldur's gate 3 is the definition of the BEST RPG, so obviously it should win the BEST RPG award.. in addition to the game of the year.
I don't see why it's not possible to have more than 5 games on the list for a year that has had so many great games
yo if spacebourne 2 doesnt get at least a nomination for labor of love ill cry... so much work put in by the dev and such a good game
Larian def deserves all they can get as a statement to the industry. If their “competition”doesn’t like it, do better. Majority of the industry aren’t in it for awards anyway, just the mtx cash money. They’ll be fine.
Some others on the list def deserve recognition as well but ye.
The first 2 minutes of the video Asmongold sounded like the AI . I doubted myself.
I wish chained echoes could’ve made it on to indie or rpg but not a lot of people played it
I am torn between two mind set regarding those awards:
- I want Baldur's Gate 3 to run over the competition so that more dumb businessmen of big studios will start to get what this game brought as a positive to the community.
- I want more game to win awards because they surely deserve it. Even if I think that, apart from fame, it doesn't give you anything really (Am I wrong about it?)
Winners win. Baldur's gate 3 needs to win 4 awards minimum. There's at least that number were BG3 was that ahead of everyone.
Must be Baldur’s Game 3... nothing comes close to that
@@iTzMcSnow you better take that back
Pretty much, though I'd say there's still a chance TotK has a chance to win as well, but not as high.
Can someone explain to me what Baldur Gate is about cause this is the first time I ever heard about it.
@@FrozoFrenzyBaldur Gate is just the name of a city set in a high fantasy world, so it's not really the name but the people in the game that give it character. I must say that if you think any video game storytelling in the past decade even remotely compelling, then BG3 will blows your mind. It's so good you'll get upset after finishing it.
IDK the games third act was bugged to hell and had a shit load of cut content, I dont think it should win based on that.
Game is only as good if it sticks the landing, and it didnt.
Plus like all the lame woke shit to (probs why it will win)
Good job Asmongold, you made very good points and I agree with your picks even though we didn't pick the same game I just love the variety of good games this year
LOTR did an incredible job. Very few issues with the book vs movie dilemma which is a big deal to me.
BG3 deserves to win 7+ awards
the game is good, but that does not mean everything it has is perfect.
@@Sephirothkingdom782 I didnt say its perfect. I said it deserves to take all awards the game was nominated too. Nothing is perfect.
@@Musickkk it does not deserve all the awards. Especially the music. I couldn’t name you 1 piece of music in bg3 as iconic as colgeras theme or ff16 music.
@@Sephirothkingdom782 are you kidding me? Down down by the river, I'm not even saying about Raphaels theme in act 3. Iconic.
ff16 theme is good, but for me just another epic fantasy tune. Same about colgeras theme. Good, but basic. I agree. mb in this topic we can argue. But best RPG? Narrative? What else was there? 100% ez BG3 wins right there.
@@Musickkk baldurs gate 3’s narrative isn’t anything special, it’s just huge in scope, that’s literally it. Being so large in scope hides it’s flaws as a story and since most of it is down to the players choices it’s hard to criticize it for some people. But some of the storytelling is just nonsense at times albeit most of it is good. It still is far less cohesive and overall better than something like ff16 and isn’t even close to Alan wake 2 or phantom liberty. Alan wake has an extra layer due to how it functions on the basis of almost everything being a detail for the overarching premise, so you have to pay attention to literally every small thing, and that’s really cool and far more deep than being spoonfed mostly generic fantasy cutscenes. Phantom liberty is also enhanced by the world building of edgerunners (a masterpiece of a show), and the base game as a whole which always had a great story. Baldurs Gate simply doesn’t have the same layers of quality that these 2 games have for its story.
In terms of music, colgeras theme is homage to wind waker and fits directly into the setting of the game very well. Dragon roost island’s tunes play alongside the song so it’s more than just “generic fantasy music”, which is ironic considering literally nobody praises baldurs gate’s music when looking at the games strengths. Both Zelda and ff are known for their music, and their newest games are no exception to this trend. For reference, check out the amount of memes colgeras theme has on yt.
Remnant 2 was a big surprise, great game! Holocure was a great diversion in between games and a lot of fun.
Best Game Direction or Best Narrative should definitely go to Alan Wake 2 (imo). It’s transcendent for video game horror and suspense.
They should’ve added a category for the most polished release of the year tbh
Man, as much as I love Armored Core 6. I do hope it wins something, its just too niche of a genre that I really hold some doubts about it winning one.
Its in action game. I think it has that at laeast
TOTK is game of the year for me. Lived up to and surpassed the hype.
Same
100%
Love how JDG is on there. They had a great run and we're pretty dominate all year. T1 FIGHTING thou.
Here's a pro tip. If BG3 is on the list, you vote for it!
Here is another pro tip. If you want a preview of how a player voted award, rather than a press voted award goes, check out the Golden Joystick Awards that took place Nov 10 in the UK. Players voted for BG3 in every category the were nominated in, 7 awards in total.
Baldurs Gate 3 should win every single category! Not only is it NO QUESTION ASKED game of the year. It will also send a message to developers, that taken the time and finishing a game properly will get you in the hall of fames of games.
No Microtransactions, 100+ hours of entertainment, good price, great game and good customer service. Larian Studios is Gamers turned Game developers. None of this corporate suit bullshit, who doesn't understand anything.
Finished?
I heard that the last parts of the game are rushed and unfinished.
Who gives a fuck if resident evil 4 is a remake, it was fucking awesome, dead space was a remake and it was fucking awesome
It's because people get remasters and remakes mixed up. It being a remake doesn't mean it can't stand on it's own. People with functioning brains and that have played it are aware it's transformative enough at least.
I love how Game awards is the only awards show that everyone is so invested in seeing who wins in today's generation
Insane year for games.
This is actually a perfect example of why audience votes are meaningless. 90% of the audience will not have played most of the games on each list (apart from complete no lifers), so it will devolve into either a popularity contest or people picking what they have played. Asmon plays videp games for a literal living, and even he didnt play most of these games for long enough to know what he was talking about.
He plays WOW for most of his life, you mean 😂😂😂
This is an issue even in political voting, as large majority of people voting are uninformed or ill-informed. There was a reason voting was originally tied to property ownership in the US: meant you had skin in the game and likely would make informed decisions at the very least. It’s akin to having people vote for GOTY and having the voting requirements be that you actually owned the games.
Also nobody can play all the video games of the year.
GOTY is just for entertainement it s impossible for something like that to be truely legitimate.
Not like all the official outlets like all the IGN's and Kotaku's of the world are any better. So many of them are disingenuous as hell and half the time they come across as hating video games all together.
Yeah, everyone knows game awards are simply a popularity contest, yet everybody still treats them with respect, it's bullshit, the sooner people realize this is just like the oscars and the better the gaming industry will be for it
I fucking hate the fact gaming went so mainstream, it only draws in vapid bullshit like this
“Basically Breath of the Wild with building.” The building and crafting were game changers tho.
Do you think we will get a Arcane teaser on Gaming Awards?
Totk is awesome but BG3 quality is above everything else.
I'm replaying "Lies of P" and I think the art direction is stunning. The more you play, the more it leans into 19th century Italian references and the steampunk gilded age look is really something to behold. There are a number of jaw dropping reveals where they show you a level (in particular the Concert Hall & the Grand Exhibition) and you are just like, these are baroque masterpieces, this looks amazing. And the level maintains that quality throughout, and not only does it look good, but technically it is up there with Souls levels in clarity & complexity of design.
V😊
My goty easily, either that or Zelda.
The inspiration for the setting is actually late 19th century Paris, and notably the 1889 Exposition Universelle. Otherwise I agree.
Criminal that it wasn't nominated. I'd personally put it over Zelda and SMB.
This GOTY is gonna be Baldur Gate award. Nothing comes even close to BG3 whenever I see it as an option.
And Neil MUST win award, I haven't seen such entertaining character as Astarion since RDR2
The "Games for Impact" category should just call itself what it is, award for the best game nobody's played.
It's the ESG awards for most buzzwords
Apparently judging by Asmon's logic, CDPR deserves an award for finishing the game that was supposed to be finished on release. And remember how they didn't show any actual footage for current gen consoles, didn't let game journalists show any of it and released it anyway, when it was so unplayable, that Sony deleted it from their store? I remember.
Truly something that deserves a celebration.
I agree with you but I'd blame all that on greedy corporations not the devs
I agree with this console take, but I played it on pc. I had bugs, but overall I thought it was an 8/10. The recent updates and expansion made it a 9/10 imo
@@ACViper This. As a PC player, it was always a good game. Even the Steam reviews reflected that sentiment from the start.
