Leather from an old leather jacket or upholstery leather from a discarded chair or couch are nice to practice on or to make small things. The 15-91 and the 201-2 are a gateway drug...... I have one of each and they lead me to a Consew walking foot with a servo motor. I love the old Singers but I try to save them now for mending clothes and such. Such a joy to work with.
I have many singers and all vintage or antique and they are powerhouse machines if used properly , i do 8 layers of denim demonstrations on my videos ,even my featherweight did it , my machines age from 1886 to 1960 and i also sew biker patches on leather vests , use my 15-91 for that work most times ,
The little lever on the right as you look at the machine (also for reverse) is how you adjust stitch length, the closer to the center it is the smaller the stitches are.
I have a concern about the length of the stitches, mine (I think it's model 15, I'm not sure), it seems to me that it doesn't give stitches longer than 3/16
Did you find out any info ? I own 2 of them and can take a look for ya and see what the max length of stitch is , let me know if i can help , i own 13 singers and restore them .

@@4486xxdawson I am wondering how well the 15-91 would work sewing vinyl handbags?
Get a hand crank singer, in my experience with the correct needle if you can get it under the foot they will sew it, no matter what the material.
