Does a vintage sewing machine sew leather? Singer 66 demo

- People are always asking can a vintage machine sew leather… this answers the CAN it…. A demo of a household domestic vintage singer sewing through 12 oz leather. You can purchase a 1-1.5 amp motor on Amazon for a very reasonable price if you want to take on this quest. My friend also mentioned that for those sewing leather collars these machine also make the hole punching process easier even if you don’t use it to actually sew…
Those 66's are works of art. We had one for years that we thought was broken, and so it sat in the table with a vase on top. One day I got bored and oiled it, and tied a new belt on. Turns out it worked fine the whole time. It's the first machine I ever made things on instead of just mending, and I love it.
This is the 1st demo I have looked at, and I would like you to know I found this to be more than helpful, THANK YOU. Im about to embark into a world that I know nothing about because I'm moving interstate with my partner, whom does leather work. I have had my things in storage and have old singer machine i have packed and forgottenabout. I am in the process of moving so now thanks to you, I've got my mojo back . Thank you. You should be teaching full time even when you are just tinkering

Mine is a 1912 treadle powered machine. I prefer the treadle over a motor because I get better control over the stitch.
There is a notch on back of needle bar.
I recently found a 66 in the garbage and have it apart for cleaning

Hi ,I just got my singer Red Eye model 66. It came withThe attachment you have on the table. It's that to guide the material? What others use does it have?
If the 66 works like this, is it safe to assume the 99k (3/4 version of 99 if I‘m not mistaken) should work the same? (Hand-crank though, no motor.) I‘m not going to try it on the Featherweight. :)

Where do you connect the foot pedal?
It would be one of those inline foot pedals with mains.
On my Singer 66 (not a red eye), it has a pressure regulator. Wouldn't your machine have one? I was puzzled by what you said about raising the pressor foot because you didn't mention it around 3:33.
The leather them using in this demo is incredibly thick raising the foot is not enough to get it under without pushing it and forcing it. So i raised the foot hight to mLe it work. It would have to be adjusted back down in order to use the machine for normal purposes

If you want to sew leather get a singer 201-2.
I'm saling one from 1917
