It's too bad that no one manufactures a Machine of such quality today !
There IS still a vast world wide market for such a versatile, heavy-duty Machine.
Otherwise, why do used and "Restored" machines command such high prices ?
    So many Manufacturers missing out?
HUGE PROFITS out there, waiting for another Machine like THIS !!!!!

So glad to have found this video. Threading the machine is not difficult, but I had a hard time remembering the sequence. I inherited the machine from my mother-in-law whose machine was manufactured in 1951. I spent more than its value in renovating it, and it's beautiful and still a workhorse. Thanks for posting this instructional.

I never realised the prong next to the bobbin tension was for winding bobbins, thought it was just to hold spare cotton! It's so obvious now you've pointed it out. Learning something useful every time I come, and thanks for the clear threading instructions too

Thank you for the well done video. I inherited my 15-91 from my dad who bought it for upholstery. I've made or modified lots of camping gear with it. I broke the needle on my most recent project and appreciated the information about installing the needle with the flat to the left. I've used my wife's Elna but I still prefer straight stitching with this machine.

Why?

I have larger spools, so I had to buy a spool tree or whatever you call it. I can’t figure out, where to sit the darn thing, so that the thread goes through the machine with normal tension. Also, what should my tension knob be set on for leather, vs cloth?

great video , the best and clearest video ive seen in a long while , no waffle just facts
ive just bought one of these as i dont have space for an industrial machine , i would have liked a walking foot , im a diver and need to sew webbing say four layers of seat belt webbing , what needle and thread size would you advise me to go for , it has to be tough ,
    thanks tom

    • @lindagilmore2325
      @lindagilmore2325 Před 4 dny

To sew webbing, try using needle numbers 16 (denim needle) up to #20.
Walking foot: get a “low shank” walking foot. Generic ones run about $30 and work fine for cloth. For multiple layers of webbing, you might have to invest a little more. But, a walking foot works great on the 15-91.
Thread sizes: you’ll have to be the judge regarding the thickness of the thread you need. The higher the number the number (example: “15 pound”,) - the thicker the thread, I believe.

Having an issue with this model where it (sometimes) has the bottom thread knot up and leave a hideous bunch on whatever I'm working on. Then when I go to cut the threads, there'll be three sticking out from the bobbin side instead of one. Looks absolutely awful, leaves a hideous knot on my project, wondering if this is an issue with the bobbin case? I'm threading it right according to the instruction manual and how you did it in this video...is it something with the bobbin tension? Any thoughts on what's happening?

Ryan Walsh did you get it to work. Usually the bunching up of threads means that the top may not be threaded correctly and you should start over with threading. The problem is with the top thread and not the bottom.

I’m a home sewer and the 2nd owner of a singer 15-91 that was manufactured in 1949. Please do not give up on your 15-91 machine. It’s an easily repairable machine with simple authentic Singer vintage and inexpensive parts that are readily available on the internet.
It sounds like your machine needs a simple overhaul, which is a good cleaning of the parts, tension and other adjustments, lubrication, and a check of the wiring. I learned to do that myself with success but there are certainly good sewing machine repair people who can make your machine fully functional snd a pleasure to use. The Singer 15-91 has the reputation of being one of the best home machines ever made. You’ve got a gem there!
