I'm always impressed by your pronunciation of place names wherever you go. I've no idea how correct they are but they sound good nonetheless. Do you speak any languages other than English or is this all down to either good research, blagging or both?

I worked in Germany many years ago and was taught German by the locals, I once went into buy some milk and the lady serving asked was I from the Netherlands nope, I’m Irish, she then argued with me that I was Dutch as my German was spoken with the Dutch accent, I was delighted because we were near the Dutch border and the Dutch people I met where very helpful, so if you learn locally then you’ll nearly always get the pronunciation correct and I think that in this case he’s had a native’s assistance, great post

I was riding one of these new train sets in April, going from Ústí nad Labem to Prague. Albeit I was travelling in the 2nd class, the InterJet train is still comfy and pleasant way to travel. There was no ČD Minibar service, though that was due to the train being an R-category ("Rychlík" - fast train; specifically R-Krušnohor, running from Prague to Chomutov via Ústí nad Labem) which is lower quality category than the IC you travelled with. Still good seats, power sockets & WiFi, good window alignment even in 2nd class. Good train overall.
As a Czech, I am quite impressed by your pronounciation of Czech names and other stuff, the pronounciation are correct, mostly on point. Great job. Thanks for a nice, enjoyable video of the Interjet train.

Brutal A/C - I got ill for a week, and we were 30 minutes late - NEVER AGAIN !!!!

Looks basically like a railjet with Borcad seats (which seem like an improvement).
I'm well familiar with the ČD railjet, which frequently comes to Austria.
The only thing missing in the InterJet is the excellent dining-car serviced by JLV, as it can be found on railjet and EuroCity trains. If you ever get on a train with Czech restaurant car I recommend a full meal, which is very affordable during "Happy hour" (on the Czech inland section).
I guess the train you showed isn't running long enough that a full dining car would make sense, but at least there's a snack service.

We don't have high speed trains here in Czechia and trains are constantly delayed, but after I visited some other countries, I realized that we have some things which are superior compared to other countries:
      1) all trains have toilets, really all trains, even when toilet can look bad, you know it's there and it can save you from brown pants
      2) stations are well marked that you really see where you are from train, you see what station you are arriving before it stops there, that can be really important in some situations, not all trains have displays or it can be broken
      3) all trains have loud speakers which are speaking clearly, loud enough and understandable, this is also superior to other countries (this is valid even for buses and trams).
      4) you can buy tickets in most of trains on board from conductor
      5) the most common czech train ticket is flexible from A to B with no mandatory train or seat reservation, so you can use any train you want in any time, that's really superior and it makes journies really much relaxed, especially when you need to change train few times, you still have just one ticket from place A to B, not 5 tickets for 5 trains like in other countries, unfortunately, it got worse after they allowed private companies, but thankfully, after 10 years, they created thing called "one ticket" which is like ticket sent to you from god and it has power everywhere, but you have to ask for it, they won't give it to you automaticaly, in some cases they give it to you automaticaly when there is only private company on your route, but you can't count with that always. On other hand, if there is option to buy ticket connected to specific train in specific time, it's mostly cheaper than flexible ticket, on some routes they give you ticket with mandatory train automaticaly, but that's mostly only for better class trains, on common trains, especially shithole village trains, there is only flexi ticket option, so sometimes it can be weird that ticket to some village can be more expensive than ticket for much longer journey in better train when there is competition with more companies and you have ticket with mandatory train, but these things are still new for me, in the past, there was only flexi ticket
      6) that's related to flexi tickets, not connected to specific trains - when you buy ticket at station, you have your ticket in like 5 seconds, mostly directly with your change back on the ticket, they are really fast, in other countries, you are waiting in long lines and you have to say what train and what seats....it can take even 5 minutes to buy ticket in other countries, we almost missed our train in Poland because of that, we didn't expect 20 minutes line for tickets, such thing doesn't exist in Czech Republic, but as I mention down here, they have ticket machines which you can use instead and it can be faster than telling it to a person behind glass
What is vice versa superior in other countries:
you can buy train tickets from machines which are in almost every station, such thing is really sci-fi for us, but you can use mobile app here

I rode this train between Cheb (near the German border) and Prague back in October and I found this train to be the best long-distance train I ever rode in my entire life. The padding at the second class (I ride trains mostly second class because of my budget limitations) is the best. The CD logo was even really well-knit in the leather headrest which gave this train a premium feeling even on the second class. The seats have even USB-C power outlets but I used my own charger to charge my phone since that outlets will not charge my phone as fast as my charger does. The ICE train (especially those of the types ICE-T and ICE 4, which I mostly rode on my entire life) looks outdated compared to these railcars. I can compare it with only one train that I also already rode, which is the newest ICE of the DB, the ICE 3 neo. My only complain about these trains is the mobile bistro, where I was not able to pay with my card. It accepted only cash. The train that I rode was pulled by the best European locomotive yet, the Siemens Vectron (which is also Bolt Railway Dog's favorite loco, go check him out, I am a Furry btw, so is him), which will also be used on the newer ComfortJet sets that will soon start service on the route between Prague, Dresden, Berlin and Hamburg.

Czech Railways used to be a total trash and laughing stock, but a lot of improvement has been done in the last decade. Partially due to EU funds, which allowed to modernize the fleet and partially due to pressure from private competition, which forced the former monopolistic carrier to improve its passanger service and company ethos. There is still a lot of room for improvement, especially on local lines, but the progress deserves recognition.

Did they fix the toilet doors yet? When I was aboard those about a month ago, you had to bodycheck the doors quite forcefully to get them to open (from the corridor, from inside there were no issues).

Interesting that České dráhy runs such a flash train for a destination like Plzeň which is only 84km from Praha (Prague). And need to book a seat. Here, you just turn up 5 minutes before departure at Sydney Central, get on a one-class train for a 160km trip to say Newcastle and pay $8.15 (£4.70 or Kč126.86) for a RETURN trip, and no seat booking. OK so our intercity trains don't have a food cart and so on but that is not deemed necessary for that distance here. "Here" BTW is New South Wales, Australia. I guess it's related to the different outlook that people have who live in very large countries; people in the U.S. and Canada possibly think the same way.
Hope you tried the "pivo" of Plzeň while you were there!

    • @jmsmilfajt
      @jmsmilfajt Před rokem +1

Praguer here. There are plenty of train categories. It's possible to go to Plzeň by slow (stoppers), fast (less stops) or direct IC trains, the price is about the same. For IC trains, Plzeň is just the 1st stop on a much longer route to Cheb (about 210 kms) - a border station. Also in an opposite direction some trains from Cheb continue all the way to Bohumín (north-east border town), that is around 550 km. On this route, the relation Praha - Plzeň is just a one stop. So while it's possible to book a seat, it's a short trip even for the locals here.

It's the same family of cars (Siemens "Viaggio") with a slightly improved interior, and doors at the end of the trainset so more cars can be added if necessary. On the Railjet the end at the engine side is just walled off, and the other end is a cab car (which causes capacity problems on some Austrian routes where 1-2 more cars more would be necessary).
The basic design of the car body dates back to the 90's and can be found in various railways all across Europe. It was designed from the start to be "modular" with regards to the interior.
