Interesting fact: this is the route that the train scene from James Bond’s Casino Royale was filmed. In the film it was supposed to portray a route from Switzerland to Montenegro.
Also, the train used is a similiar one, still a Pendolino but from the Cisalpino Class, the ETR 470
Thanks for "Czeching" out my country!
When I saw it was a Czech train I thought, "This ought to be good" and it didn't disappoint. Every Czech train you've featured has been well run and in great shape. They also have an open buffet car when so many others don't. From the Art Nouveau station to the beautiful Slovakian scenery, this trip was a winner.
It's pretty good, until you try the regional trains. If one ever arrives lol
@@ChrisHorner_WCC actually, regional trains are less delayed than international ones
They have shorter delays but in order to enter most of them you have to find a door that isn't broken and then literally climb in. Also, they are saunas on wheels during the summer
@@dainne_ c'mon, most ČD-operated regional routes nowadays use RegioPanters, RegioSharks and RegioSpiders, and other companies running regional rail usually use the RegioSprinter units.
This was true maybe 5-10 years back, but definitely not nowadays
I've noticed that both online and IRL, the people who complain the most about regional rail (or rail in general) are the ones who use it the least, which is quite ironic
@@martinytcz1762 I don't know where you live but on the lines I use (and these are major lines in my region) most of the trains come from early 70's. It's true that they are slowly being replaced by RegioPanters, but it's still mostly 560/242 engines. Apart from the heat I'm fine with them as a young healthy person. My grandparents on the other hand aren't even able to get in due to the high stairs. The last time my grandma used it, she fell while exiting and hurt her leg and arm.
(fyi I use trains 4-5 times a week)
Very nice report :) Even that I am from Poland, for many years I hadn't known that one of the most important rail lines of Czechia and Slovakia runs so close to Poland.
I just have a note about the pricing, and calling it "very cheap" or "exeptional value" in travel reports of many train youtubers. That's totally right when comparing to western European countries. However, for many people in Poland, Slovakia, Czechia or Romania, these prices are average or often even expensive (like the fares for Polish "Pendolino" trains).
In the same time, taking a train trip to Germany or France often seems like a vision of bankruptcy for travellers from Eastern European countries once they check the prices of DB, SNCF or ÖBB. Especially for the youths it's often unaffordable, even InterRail tickets seem enourmously expensive :(
It depends really. Most people from Benelux countries and the UK usually still perceive the East/West division as it was before 1989 but it's not that black and white. Prague, Warsaw and Bratislava are very rich regions and many people here have highly qualified jobs with very solid salaries even for the EU as a whole but the countryside is lacking behind but generally Central/Eastern EU countries are much more developed than the countries that are further east but still geographically located within Europe.
Regarding train tickets, I sometimes find Czech train tickets hilariously cheap even as a Czech. 😀 And students sometimes even laugh that they pay just 2-3 Euros for an Intercity trip through the country because there is a 75 % discount for them on top on already very cheap basic fare...
So I think that the cheaper trains in the V4 countries have nothing to do with the east/west division but it's in the mentality that everyone is so savvy here that whenever people find mass transport to be more expensive than the individual transport (cars), they will avoid the mass transport.
A quick note on pronunciation - When you see what looks like a small V above letters in Czech/Slovak the way it's pronounced is similar to a sh or ch sound in English - Č and Š sound like Ch and Sh respectively. Great video and subject and as a (part) Slovak I can't wait to see more!
That would be the háček, to give it its native name, or the caron to give it its universal name.
I worked on a project in Košice and every time we onboarded a new team member from the UK we had to explain to them "its like Ko-Shit-Sa" 🙂 Always raised a few eyebrows given the meaning of shit in english.
@@Dan-Athema Maybe that's why it gets mispronounced 'Ko-SEE-chi' by many English speakers because it can't really be pronounced like that, can it...really?
@@christopherbentley7289 it is fairly easy to pronounce it, but I am speaking as a Czech, so it makes sense it is easy for me..
Most Westerners can't be bothered about pronouncing non-Western names properly, so they don't even enquire. I'm a Westerner, btw, but I find this aggravating.
As a Czech I was only twice on board of the Pendolino when I asked my parents if we can make a trip somewhere using it. I was a young boy back then but I never used it since. I think it's mainly because ČD do have fast trains, unfortunately the highest speed in the Czech Republic is 160kph only. I do quite regular trips from Prague to Olomouc (the most scenic, favorite and nostalgic part for me glimpses at 10:56) and I pay an annual fee to ČD and I can use all their trains for free except the Pendolino where I still need to pay extra, so for me (a student) there's no point to pay quite a high charge only to save literally less than 30 minutes even tho the distance from Prague to Olomouc is around 270km. As I said, Pendolino goes only 160kph here (and there are even parts where it can't go that fast) and other trais go 140kph minimal or 160kph too, only with more stops.
I'm no longer a student, but I use SC for my trips from Prague to Olomouc not for the negligible time savings, but for its quiet car (2nd class). I have yet to have another passenger take the seat next to me and my man, it's always such a calm and quiet ride. The booking fee is only about 35 CZK most of the time anyway.
The reservations (SuperCity supplement) costs only 35-70kč, no? I think that’s still a good value, especially as it includes a bottle of water and a newspaper.
Love your voice-over and getting to know your personality. It helps your videos shine. I watch every one. ❤ from the 🇺🇲
That journey looks absolutely amazing with the scenery. The mountains look spectacular. Judging by the video the pendelino looks one of the best quality rides I’ve ever seen. Great video, will have to watch it more than once
Travelled on this route on this route the year before lockdown the Czech 🇨🇿 pendolino was great, comfortable and fast.
Well, I really enjoyed that journey. I've always longed to see Prague and the Czech Republic. But I've been blown away by the
beauty of Slovakia now as well. Train journeys are certainly the way to see countries. Your commentary and advice for the
potential traveler tie the viewers package together nicely. Thank you, and I look forward to further laptop outings!
Thanks, Dylan! I said it, I said it again, I'll say it again: you are the best chain of train trip reports. I was finally able to see the magnificent Prague station in its entirety, the magnificent platforms of the Prague station in its entirety. Everything is exceptionally well shown. We travel well with you, Dylan!
Thanks for doing these, Dylan. Much appreciated.
Fantastic train, reliable and modern, wonderful scenery too, excellent prices...!
Impressive train, cost and scenary. Thanks Dylan, really enjoyed that
Cheers, Bob
Brilliant Dylan a great choice for today's trip.Thank you,
This is one of the most luxurious and nicest trains i ever saw.
Great video. Train looks superb and great value. Thanks again. All the best from Thailand.
The Italian train ETR 485 (Elettro Treno Rapido) was built in Italy by FIAT Ferroviaria in 2004 and not by ALSTOM ... Only later FIAT Ferroviaria merged with the French ALSTOM which also acquired the "Pendolino" patent !
You do marvellously with all those tricky place names!
Very nice coach for being 2nd class! And I like the fact there’s a quiet coach 👍🏻
All very civilised and superb value!
Such beautiful countries!
Incredible value for such a long journey.
1:14 "yes that's you im looking at, Euston" lol
Fascinating to see the beautiful mountain landscapes. I've seen nothing of the Czech Republic and Slovakia other than Prague and Bratislava, so obviously I've missed a lot! Also very impressed by the quality of the train and the second class accommodation. It occurred to me that the train looked too narrow inside to comfortably hold a 2x2 seat configuration, and I see other comments on the same point.
I've stayed in Prague more than once, also Zakopane just across the Czech/Slovak border in the Tatras, and really enjoyed this video Dylan 🙂
*Polish/Slovak, Zakopane is in Poland
What an excellent trip on a great train!
This looks superb VFM! I have never seen a play area for kids on a train before but what a brilliant idea for long distance routes!!
great vlog dylan mate i loved the interia and the review was great i love the doors compair to the avanti pendos
Another enjoyable video, well filmed and narrated. Here we see another example of a country providing superior train services to our own and at relatively low cost as well.
Very enjoyable!
Yes, very good train, price, scenery, and host. Thank you.
Extremely pleased with your trip in the Czech and Slovak republics. Can't complain about the price of the fare either. My maternal grandparents are from here and this is a planned trip on my bucket list from the US.
Exceptionally quiet train
Ostrava station brought back memories of a long day return flight to watch Cov's only one Euro cup game win against Banik Ostrava, way back in 1968 (!) Sure look good accommodation on these trains. Thanks gain for another enjoyable vlog.,
.
If this luxury exists in more trains, it will be the best thing ever.
This is a standard in all new and refurbished long distance ČD trains.
Since late 2022 there should be a new connection of private Czech open access train operator RegioJet: Bucharest-Budapest-Vienna-Munich - this company has the best on board service in Europe for a way lower than common price... You´ll see...
@@johnnygomez7063 Will RegioJet extend the route from Prague to Bucharest via Vienna and Budapest? It can be the best thing ever! I am from Bucharest! :)
@@XTREAMER3850 It will be brand new line in RegioJet network - Munich (DE) - Vienna (AT) - Budapest (HU) as a basic line --- and some trains will be extended even to Bucharest (RO)
@@XTREAMER3850 In year 2022 the key think will be expand to Poland and start several new long distance intercity connections within Poland.
The MUC - VIE - BUD - BUH train line is planned to be put into operation since 12/22
Great, tilting train are always my favourite
That was great Dylan . I really enjoyed the video 👍.
Beautiful Scene , Very nice.explanation & information Thanks
My grandad was Czech 🇨🇿. He took me to Prague many times but I’ve never visited the station. Looks stunning though
Another great video Dylan 👍👍
I like the Lego station model, very enjoyable and scenic train ride
Any video that features the Slovak countryside is one that is worth watching. Slovakia is the one of the most underappreciated destinations in the world. Košice is a charming city as well, and is a nice place to visit when you want to spend time away from tourist crowds as it is virtually unknown to mainstream tourism
Haha 15:00 “a breakfast of sorts “ - schnitzel 😂 nice video 👍🏼 subscribed
Very nice that you & nonstop Euro trip are supporting each other's channels !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈💞
Fantastic landscapes for 21 dollars ... thks for another trip.
CD trains, while comfortable, certainly aren't for anyone in a hurry. In 2010 I took a trip from Prague to Dresden on a CD operated service, a journey of around 80 miles. The whole trip took nearly four hours, including a 45 min border check at Usti nab Labem on the Czech-German border. Both countries were in the Schengen Zone by then. Fortunately, I wasn't in a hurry and enjoyed the trip immensely!
Czech republic is a very dynamic country - the reality from 10 years ago seeing by eyes in 2021 is like looking back to the stone age... Since than the fleet of ČD has radically changed for better. Many new operaters enetered the rail market due to liberalisation. Tens of brand new trains have been put into operation year by year - this year another tens of brand new electric RegioPanters and brand new category of brand new InterJets trains.
The fare price on that train was very good...very informative video, thank you
Indeed is a value for money the price of the ticket for a ride of almost 7 hours. A great train with modern wagons. Thanks for sharing ☺️
Seems an excellent service and at a very low price. Like the quality of the seats and the carriages 👍
The refurbished interior really brings the journey in Pendolino to another level. I think Pendolino has the only first class in Czech Railways which is worth the money from the service standpoint. Small snack, coffee and champagne (alcoholic or non alcoholic) is included in the price of the ticket :)
I would argue that this is the only ČD product NOT worth paying for the upgrade. You get literally nothing more in terms of seat comfort and the pre-packaged sandwich is hardly worth the fare difference, especially when you can get better food right in the buffet car. You can also purchase the small bottle of sparkling wine (not champagne, btw) on board, so there's really no point in shelling out the money for 1st class.
ayyyy again my country :D
2+1 in second class. Wow. Never come across that before anywhere.
PKP Intercity used to run a Night train from Warsaw to Amsterdam (actually more of a group of cars bouncing between a few different trains) that was made of a full on seeping car, a couchette and a "second classs seated car". The last one was actually a "sleeperette" not only configured in 2+1, but with seats that reclined to almost horizontal. Nearly every single person entering backed down a few steps to double check the big "2" on the internal doors. Sadly, since DB cancelled the night train these cars were attatched to between Berlin and Cologne, that service is no longer running, and the cars are juggled between various domestic and international services, and since the pandemic they're no longer used anywhere...
Great report Dylan, Prague is a lovely city, when we went we didnt use the railway however
Another enjoyable video. Those pendolinos look like they're the same as the former Trenitalia Frecciargento.
Luxury SuperCity Pendolino
Pardubice hlavní nádraží (Main Railway Station) is now being repaired. The repair will be completed in 2025 (2023 will be finished platforms and 2025 the whole station building) But Pardubice as a city is really beautiful so I definitely recommend visiting🇨🇿❤️✌🏻 the historic center in the city is really beautiful. you can find here a Zelená Brána (green gate), a castle," Atrium" Shopping center, Třída Míru, and more..
The scenery got very nice just past the mural on the side of the building.
Nice one Dylan as one of my favourite lines Praha to Kosice. The beautiful Tatras mountains and next time your in Kosice you must check out Med Malina in the centre as just the most amazing food. you know when you enter Slovensko the scenery gets better and better !
Hi, youtube randomly showed me this video. I like it.. and i like you showed important part, not cut it after 5 minutes like others :D
Nice video . Thanks
You should travel the rocky mountaineer! Thanks for the good content ☺️
Thanks for another great video/journey Dylan! One quick question, what is the app you are using for your train speedometer?
Brilliant video, to get a single seat in, 2nd class is fantastic, better than the stuff we put up with in the UK, with trains like that I wouldn't dream of driving.
Toto video sa mi velmi pacilo aj Pendolino :)
Thank you for inspiration Dylan. This will be my next trip when I get to Prague. Sadly I don't know yet when this is going to happen.
great train; stunning architecture (art nouveau) in the Prague railway station
Ohh.man ! I missed this one ! I thought I did !! Lol. I was gonna ! I am watching this now !! So far looking good & fun ! 😀 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈💞
Great video! 2+1 configuration is kind of "a must" for Pendolino. Because of its tilting, the profile of the train needs to be narrower than for a normal train, so 2+2 configuration would require the seats to be narrower than in a standart train. Actually Polish PKP operates 20 Pendolino units in this 2+2 config in 2nd class and I dont find them very confortable exactly for this.
How much narrower is the train?
All the other pendolinos of the same generation, like the ones in Portugal, Finland or Italy still have 4 seats per row in 2nd class. The Czech Pendolinos are the exception here! :)
problem is the polish pendolinos don't even tilt
@@user-df3ty8ei2u well they do. A polish pendolino was my first, and I noticed the tilt.
@@sxflyer5410 well Portuguese Alfa Pendular trains are Iberian gauge so there's dome cheating there
Wow Dylan this is by far your best video yet. Boy, you're really doing well pronouncing those Czech words. The Lego model is astounding. It's nice to see how many people were out & about at 6 A.M. I can see why that building was used in a Bond movie. It is stunning. Your train was quite grand for second class. Who needs first in that train? The scenery was lovely & something new for me to see. Even your meal was a bargain. The price of your ticket was unbelievable after what you paid last week. I would surely take that train. I thought about asking if you've ever taken a train to Casablanca or Marrakesh. I checked out another video & I'd never ask that of you. What a horrible journey that would be. Forget it. Nice to hear that you're adding a new video on Mondays as well. Great, I'll be waiting to see you then. Happy travels.
I agree as a Czech, that he pronounces some words well, but how he pronounces "Košice" hurts me a bit. But it is understandable, as he is not Czech or Slovak, so no hate for that
The Lego Model is Terrific!
Euston station is not brutalist but rather International Style. Brutalist bulidings tend to be much bolder, imposing and usually feature lots of exposed concrete (béton brut in French) or brickwork. Good examples of brutalist architecture in London are the National Theater or the Barbican.
🔥🔥
thank you
Astonishing quality and even more astonishing price. Frankly those seats are at the very least as good as first class UK train accommodation. And the decor of the carriage is superb. And again can I say how astonishing that price is? For 700km!!!! 70 effing kilometres on a train from London to Brighton costs twice that.
Nice one! "š" in Košice is pronounced as "sh" in e.g. Sheffield, and "c" is "ts" as in tsar.
On a side note, the station in Kosice and the whole area appears to look way better than the one in Bratislava :)
So, Košice is pronounced KOSH-it-se(r).
I think the pronunciation of most names has been very good as some are notoriously difficult for not just English speakers. good job Dylan
As much as I love Slovakia as a whole, the train station in Bratislava leaves something to be desired. I hope it could get renovated soon. As most people would arrive there, it's not really an awesome welcome by a country that has so much to offer
@@luke211286 well, when discussing this topic with friends, the word that gets used typically is 'disgrace'...
@@peterdean8009 probably more like ending in sa. Ko-shit-sa.
Wow ! I like this train 🚆😀 I love that foot rest & trash bin ( big & wide )& reading light !!! And those plushy blue seats !! Blue is my colour !! Lol ( Turquoise blue is my No.1 fave & purple ,red ,I love any blues )Very nice !! I love drinking tea & eating lunch / dinner on trains !!! More than airplane meals !! Not sure why ,but more fun & relaxing on trains !! Was that a Polaroid camera !? Lol. I've got mine ( not the original one anymore ).I was one of the very 1st if not the very 1st indeed to get the original one when it came out in Japan in the 80's? Late 70's ? I might be mistaken. I am watching on my phone .The name of this train reminds me 'o an animal ...supposedly spreaded covid besides bats. Lol.
I liked the views from the window very much !! Beautiful 😍 I loved this train !! And I really enjoyed this review !! Thank you Dylan !!! Another great job !!! 👍👍😃💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈🌲💕💞
Always a favourite station of mine. Actually Eateries are open at 03:30, which is great if your on an early train.
I hope you enjoyed Kosice, it looks that you've been there in summer. :-) btw. Our renovated railway station looks better than gray railway station in capital city Bratislava.
A SuperCity Pendolino. Awesome. Wish that Alstom could of built the Pendolinos for the East Coast Main Line as they have built the Class 390 Pendolinos that are used on the West Coast Main Line and is operated with Avanti West Coast.
Very cool!😎👍
This train is amazing.....I'll give him definitely a try, hope next year in summer!
Can you recommend Kosice for visiting?
I am not him, but yes, Košice is stunning.
Good news that you are going to issue 2 vlogs per week , excellent video .
Wow that's fantastic. Even allowing for the fact that the Czech Coruna is obviously quite low compared to Western currencies, and a Western traveller could easily afford first class, the idea of a 2+1 configuration in second class is so attractive.
The main reason for me to possibly choose first class on a train is leg room and not being forced to share space with a stranger. But that's all taken care of in second! I don't think my posterior would notice the difference between cloth and leather seats haha.
Great video, as usual. One question - you sound like you speak Czech?
Exceptional bargain???? You stole it, dude. Looks to be extremely clean, well maintained and a BARGAIN. The food portion looked great for the price. I hope the quality was there as well.
Generally food in our Czech Railways (České Dráhy) trains is usually very good, easily comparable with what you get in restaurants :)
České dráhy food won the award of best train food in europe!
Regarding the private RegioJet that operates the same line - their food is cheaper than in the shop and super fresh - see link from another line - just for food: czcams.com/video/ZvvAzcTcVqY/video.html
one note "č" in "česke drahy" is sounds more or less as "ch" in "church".
Já bydlím v Olomouci ❤️
Euston... We have problem!😒😉

And there was me think CPs Alfa Pendular 'Tourista' class was good for standard class.
That coach would be 1st class on any other operator, no doubt.
I would love to see a map or illustration of all the lines and cities you have visited since you began your channel. Also, would you ever do a live-stream? Apologies if both have been done but I am a fairly new viewer....
Wow, a first class coach in our world. How on earth do they manage to do that?
Nice review. I'm from the Czech Republic, I ride the ČD trains quite often, but I've never used the pendolino so - thank you for the review! Happy New Year! :)
Great videos my friend love them.Just one question does the CZcams income pay for your travels or are you privaliged ?
Great trip, bit distracted by Auto Train or Passenger Train with Car Carrier behind it at 9:18.
That's EN Slovakia from Humenné (SK) to Prague via Košice (SK). You can load your car in Košice and spend night in sleeper car, wake up in Prague and drive away.
Pardubice also has the "Czech Grand National" horse race.
This is similar length trip to Brisbane to Rockhampton and about the same travelling time too. But far cheaper than Queensland Rail with better seating in economy too.
Hello Dylan! :D
