You should try the new Avril. Just started in late May 2024 to galcia replacing the Alvia and is a gauge switcher. Its really interesting because it is wider than most trains so it runs a 2-2 in first/business and 2-3 in standard like in Japan. Train isn't quite as wide as the shinkansen though, so its not as idea. I agree, though Spain has brought the annoyances of flying to trains with security and ticket checks.

I’ve taken that train from Barcelona to Valencia and back… I don’t remember any discomfort during travel.. I know that Talgo trains like to be driven fast because at speeds lower than 70 miles an hour… oscillation begins from side to side… but I experienced that phenomenon on other high-speed trains. High-speed trains do not like to be ran slow.

The security check probably has to do with the 2004 Madrid train bombings. It has been argued that Talgo trains without the gauge changing technology can be very comfortable. The high-speed train in Saudi Arabia uses Talgo trains on Chinese-built tracks, and they are very comfortable and quiet, according to another travel channel. But it probably has extra suspension, which might be impossible to add to trains with the gauge-changing technology.

I'll tell you my experience with the new IC. Let's start with the lights. Apparantly no one knows that the lights mean anything, because almost always someone is talking or calling in the quiet zones. In the old trains there always is a sticker on the window, indicating the quiet area. Now there is a small logo above the doors (and a small 's' on the doors actually). Now about these doors. They might be the single worst thing about this train. They fail often, and just don't open, blocking free seated places. They close automatically, with quite some force, and there is no way to stop it from closing, because the button is blocked by the wall the door is behind. I have gotten squeezed by a door more times than I've gotten wifi on this train. On previous trains there was a handle to keep the door open. And you could rip them open if they didn't wanna, unlike these doors. The doors also don't really serve a purpose because the walls don't keep the sound out of the silence areas. Furthermore, the train is indeed very noisy, and that doesn't go away after accelerating. Though sitting close to an end of the train is worse. It also feels very, let's say, unprivate compared to the old train. It is so open or something, I don't know what it is. Though I have never noticed the dirtyness. Anyway, as one might tell, I hate this train. EDIT: Ooh there's one thing I almost forgot! There is a system which *regularly* makes the train stop rapidly. It's called ATB I think. It usually happens when departing from a station. Very annoying, especially when standing.

That is one thing I miss, noisy trains and track, that clickity clack from 88 ft long rails. One could work out the speed with a bit of counting, timing and mental arithmetic. The creaking of wood panelling was actually quite soothing. Why do you think that anything 20 years old is actually old, the design may be a tad dated but that is often a good thing as some modern design sucks, modern seats are hard compared to the old spring and horsehair ones.

Barcelona-Sants is an interesting train station, I was there last week. It closes at 00:30, and opens at 04:15, but recently a lot more homeless people started congregating outside of the train station, mixing between the tourists. The ticketing office for reservations opens up at 05:30 if memory serves me right, and you're required to get a reservation if you're going on a high-speed train or a long distance train. I sat there, waiting for the ticket office to open up, and next to me sat a woman. I asked her if she speaks English, to which she responded positively (in English). I told her "I always tell to my Spanish friends 'mucho', it means a lot to them.", to which she cracked up to. I also angered one of the homeless people outside, about half an hour before the train station opened, and he tried to fight me. Barcelona sure was an interesting stop for me on the way to Valencia, and I can highly recommend visiting Valencia.

2:24 there is a reason for it why they did that it has to do with the 11th March 2004 Madrid train bombings which explains that style of security. Excellent video and there is another version of talgo gauge changing train it's the high-speed Avril max speed 310 kmh 190 mph-320 kmh 200 mph speaking of your train it also has another capability passive tilt. 5:40 one more reason to write this has happened to Spain they were in the wrong time zone since 1940 the correct time zone for them is the one used for Portugal and United Kingdom
