Here we go! Please don't destroy this one ! I know it's a little rough but those are a 80s kid dream machine
Agreed, much better than the homemade "death traps" (my father would say) that we had as youngin
It’s already destroyed
I don't think you fully understand the definition of destroyed that thing is a fantastic machine that anyone would love to have no offense
@@adamtyson1728 I don’t think you understand that unless you have seen that thing in person up close you’ll realize it’s a hunk of shit and now that 2vintage hands have been on it it’s now crap
@@johnmicah2193 I reckon you're right. But still like it
The brake bending tool.. The line goes against the flat "stop" piece, and in between the mandrel and the bending arbor, then squeeze the handle down towards the other handle, to make your bend.
I was cringing watching him use that bending tool!
I cringe with most of what he does.
Turn the little metal clips for the plastic weld gun horizontally. They are meant to work like stitches which is why they are wavy
Edit: it also uses a lot less of the metal stitches
My brother and I both had FL250’s back in the early 80’s we had 5 acres behind our house that we built a track on. What a blast! Our dad took us up to silver lake sand dunes in Michigan a few times. Great memories.
Funny story. My brother bought a t shirt at the Honda dealer and wore it to school. It had a picture of an odyssey and below it said “Do it on all fours”. The principal made him turn it inside out. 😂
That's awesome that you actually found one and got it running. Definitely not very many left these days and are worth a ton of money
Think about it. This thing was so far ahead of its time. I had the pleasure of riding one in the mid 90s. That thing was a beast
Had one behind the garage for years and my brother got it , thought he was going to fix and ride, hell no , I had no clue what A market there was for them and parts he took it apart and sold it all on Ebay, and made damn good off it, Prick, yea Im from a place most folks never heard of in a third world country , Kentucky !just now 1993 here
I learned when plastic welding with the gun like you're doing at 20:20 that when you put it into the plastic after it glows, you give it a tiny twist to lock it in then release the trigger to let it cool a little, then pull the gun away. Clip the tails later once you're done and they're all cool. I think with vibrations and rough riding they end up popping out if you don't twist them like a quarter turn - try to use the thinnest 'staples' as possible to get between the layers of plastic kinda so give it a little twist it's not just sitting there.
nice tips thanks
@@jordandoesmx9862 I have a short video on my channel. Also allot of those staples the legged break off so you don't have to use the snippers. I like you key better mine didn't come with the plastic welding rods
I think your suppose to clean and lightly sand the surface that you are going to plastic weld otherwise you trap the dirt and make it a weak spot. It's like regular welding metal, same idea on clean and prep 20:13
they are super fun just remember to use the hand restraints when your spinning donutes they do flip over have the smashed hand to prove it your first reaction is to grab the roll bar bad idea!!!thanks for the videos you put in the work for sure!!!
I was heavily into ATC's back in the day and I remember grabbing a brochure for this beast at a Honda shop when I was picking up parts. Good times! 👍
after using the tube cutter, file and clean your cut end before flaring. No sharp edges.
I flipped one of those things 14 times end over end! 28 impacts to the ground before it stopped tumbling. Gnarly crash and I didn’t even own it! Last time I borrowed a toy from anyone!
Luckily, my friend owned a frame straightening business!
Had one of these back in the early 80z. We raced at a number of tracks here in California. Had a whole west coast race circuit. Had so much fun, still have some trophies to prove it. Nice to see you bring one back to life. Have fun with that thing and I recommend mixing your gas/oil at 20:1 you will definitely notice the power gain. A little race tip….I have more race tips in the brain vault. Another tip get good seat belts…they can be rolled i guarantee it
Honda was very adventurous in those days, coming up with innovatuons like the Odyssey. I always wanted one of those as a kid.
I remember seeing the poster at my local Honda dealership of the Pilot 400 in early 90’s….At the time I was 12 yrs old and riding a 1987 Honda 200X ATC…That was my life…rode with my buddies everyday after school…Best times of my life…This video took me down memory lane 😂😂
Been waiting to see the plastic welder. The wife and I both stay up for hours watching and learning.
These odysseys pop up pretty often in my area, usually blown up or wrecked for pretty cheap. Even the runners aren't too expensive compared to a side by side anyway. Always wanted one but never pulled the trigger, may have to pick one up this year.
Where do you live
Just awesome!! The Odyssey was such a dream machine back in the day. We went to the sports center and they had all of the toys: three wheelers, dirt bikes, Odysseys, etc. My buddy and I both had Honda 200X wheelers and had such a great time with them. We worked our butts off to get them and they didn't disappoint.
First time I rode one of the FL250's I actually rented like 4 of them for me and family at the sand dunes on the Oregon coast back in the mid 80's and we rode them all day long had a blast, I was in love, ended up finding and buying 4 of these for the family, My personal one had an after market roll cage, looked like a Sand rail. Bought a flatbed trailer to haul them with, and picked up another one not running for parts, we took them everywhere and had a blast. The only problem with those were there was no electric start or reverse (UGH) so had to unbuckle, get out and push them back manually what a pain, specially when the wife and kids were always getting stuck somewhere and couldn't back out. I will never forget the enjoyment we got riding these as a family all over the trails and dunes, you brought back many memories with this one, always wanted to get this model but by then we had moved onto other toys. These were a real pain loading and unloading from the trailer as they all had to sit sideways to fit and they are very heavy. Thanks Joe for the memories and the restoration of this great little machine!
My dad and I have 3 fl350s of theese including 2 with the water cooled head all in good condition. Parts for these are worth they weight in gold. These things are monsters at the dunes and nothing with 4 wheels jumps as well as these.
That thing is a BEAST! By far the best resto job I've seen you do!
We still need to hear that DG pipe, my dude.
my cousin had one back in 87.. he had a nightmare time with the fuel system, always running lean and the honda shop could never figure it out.. those fuel systems use a pump to pressurize the tank and push fuel into the carb.. it is a vaccum operated pump on top of the tank that is run off crancase vaccume .. if anything had a leak it would wreak havoc to the fuel system.. come to find out it was a bad seal on the gas cap that was causing all his problems.. fuel tank could not pressurize because of a faulty seal on the gas cap.. that fuel system is a odd ball one that was way over engineered !!!! make sure your vaccume hose from the crankcase to the pump is good and make sure your tank is pressurizing and that everything is sealed....
Nice. Now find a pilot!!
Skully.
Excellent job on the flare tool and Demo, those things can be intimidating if you haven't used one before! Welding in shoe's and ankle socks😂 Great Video as always!
You cleaned the metal parts prepping for weld, do the same. Sand and scrub the plastic surface all around the cracks and breaks.
I haven't seen one of them since 1987, Thay are a lot fun to ride.👍 Brings back some good memories.
I always wanted a Honda Odyssey. It’s nice watching you have fun with one. I think that plastic fix kit is a winner! Where’s the master diagnostician been? Woof!
Also, have you been hitting the gym?
I had the first odyssey’s which were 250s no suspension in the rear other than the tires then I had the FL 350s. They ran pretty good four wheel suspension. Then I had a pilot which blew them all away. 400 liquid cooled was a beast.
Those welds look like they came out to be a pretty decent repair, you shoulda showed them. That rig seemed to improve the more you ran it.. great job
Fine some older white plastic and cut a pice to fit the back fender. Then stapple it on there. Not sure where to get older platic, except for the tie straps. One did a good job on repairing this big two stroke go cart. I like the two strokes inegines. Have fun and I hope we get a lot of money for this when done too.
Wow, what a great little go-cart, the dream of many kids. Not like the homemade deathtraps we cobbled together. Another entertaining, although lack of Vinny-time, and informative video
As a kid in the early nineties I remember seeing a couple of these come into the Honda dealership to get repaired every time they came in I would try to talk to mechanics into letting me take them out for a rip because they're just so much fun
The Odyssey racing scene was pretty competitive back in the 80s. You could get water-cooled 500cc conversion heads, full nerf bars and nets, better seats and harnesses and fully adjustable suspension upgrades with Fox shocks. Or you could go full custom chasis. Racers ran rear axle spacers and flat-track tires for drifting corners.
It was basically SXS racing before there was such a thing.

I wanted one of them when I was little bad! Even a dingo cart would have been good enough for me! What a great find! Looks like it's running strong!!
Awesome! That thing would also be a real ripper with a Rotax snowmobile engine.😊
(Home made plastic stitch), Vice grips, paper clips bent 90, propane torch heat up the paper clips red.
As I mentioned in your first video of this FL350, you need to make sure and secure (weld) that rear pillars (roll cage) near where you welded as by design it bolts to the main frame. First roll and those bars may impale you or that top cage will buckle down on you. Hard to tell in the video if you addressed that but doesn't look like it. The FL350's rip, the Pilots (FL400) must be insane.
Yeah my buddy had brand new polit loved it. It was a blast. I'd ride it some he ride cr. He could ride bike great, wheelie out of site. He like bikes.
Great repair job Joe! Turned out really nice
Holy cow. That Odyssey sure flies. It could be the fastest thing yet out on the land 👍
You might consider eye protection when using a wire wheel. Sometimes a loose wire can fly off. Great job getting the odyssey back on the trail! They are a blast in the sand!
Oh wow!!!! I grew up riding one of these!! It was a black frame with yellow fenders and didn't have the full roll bar encasement. It had a tall bar on the back and one across the front, but that was plenty to keep me safe the numerous times I flipped it jumping terrace rows on the farm where I grew up.
Mine was a 250cc, and I remember working all summer saving money to buy it from my dad's twin brother. The only thing I absolutely hated about it was the number of times I stranded myself deep in the woods because I would stall it or the motor would die, and there was no way in hell my scrawny kid self was ever able to start the pull-start engine.
We used to ride with me strapped into the harness and my baby sister sitting facing me in the front footwell facing backward. It's a miracle that we both survived childhood without head injuries.
I can remember as a kid the fl350 was the Mt. Everest of toys for me. This and the atc250r. Unfortunately they were too expensive for my parents.
A buddy of mine had one in the late 80s when we were growing up. The thing was fun as hell👍👍👍👍
Looks very fun to this old man. Reminds me of days gone by racing dune buggy's at the beach.
Upgrade the CVT on that thing, add a pipe and silencer and it’ll pull the front wheels off the ground on asphalt or with paddles, those things rip, second to only the FL400, mr friend Chris had an FL400 that would roast the knobbies of a set of tires no problem always wanted one of the 350 or 400’s
Get yourself a small mitivac brake bleeder. They are a great little tool to have around. Another awesome restoration! Keep em coming.
I had one of these and loved it. The manual says to run it like 16:1, which is way thick. I ran Yamalube synthetic 2 stroke oil in it around 30:1 and it ran great and smoked way less.
Man, I drove one of these back in the day for an afternoon, what a blast! Wish they werent so un-obtainium nowadays!
A kid I did not know that well and his dad stopped by our house and had one in the back of their truck. We drove it on our property and had a blast. It seemed so advanced for the time.
Good job! You can make those things crazy fast with just a few mods
It’s much to my chagrin that Honda decided to call their minivan Odyssey… always wanted one of these as a kid. Great job 👍🏻 very cool 🤙
mighty vac brake tool is what i used on my fl350 helps. said it before wish they would revisit these so much 2 stroke fun rzr not the same
My cousin and I bought 2 of those back in the early 2000’s wish I still had one of them . They are so fun. Your so lucky. I’m a little jealous lol
I bet the farmer who is using your land will be pleasantly surprised at the new rows you've put in ;)
I remember when they first come out..same as the 250cc..we brought them brand new..they were the bomb back then
There's a brake tool called Titan,...got it at O'Reilly's ,.....you need it,.... it works perfect every time.
And there's many others that look like it that probably work great too.
It's for the person who only want's to do it once.
I hope I’m wrong on this one but you appear to weld the chassis up where it had been cut but I didn’t see you fabricate/weld the brackets to join the mid part of the roll cage to the chassis there should be 6 mounting points for that roll cage looks like there are only 4. Whoever added those cross bars behind the seat has removed the fixing points for the roll cage please refit these 👍🏻
I love this channel you're always rebuilding cool stuff.🤘😎🤘
Keep that one. Those were all over the oregon coast dunes back in the day. Now I never see any. They all got trashed. Great find.
Thanks for not including the onboard commentary. That laughing like a fool, was getting to me.
I just use staples to fix plastic panels, a bit of wire and a lighter to make two holes, then a soldering iron with wedge tip to push the staple below surface and smooth plastic over top, bend over legs at back and then epoxy the seam on back. Filling with plastic does nothin. Sand down front a bit and dust on some paint, makes a decent strong joint.
Does look good that machine, I think you should epoxy back of seam though.
I'm sure you did this. After cutting the tubing make sure you ream the end. Don't want a burr at the end. It can restrict flow of any type of fluid.
That copper nickel line is the best line to use it wont rust and its soft enough you can bend it by hand witch makes it super easy to cleanly route it
I remember the ODY 250’s came out when I was in high school early 80’s but never had a chance to ride the 350- that baby RIPS!
Nothing funnier than an odyssey 💯💯💪
I had a Honda Odyssey 250 growing up in the 90S. So much fun!
Straighten the handle on the bending tool run the copper through that bottom little hook piece and on the back side of the handle (the inside) then close the handle to bend
I never understood why it all ended with the pilot. They were and still are so fun to run.
Tip on those brakes: push fluid from bleeder to master cylinder with a 1” syringe.. works great.
In 1982 I had an FL250 , cthe yellow one. Fun as hell.
If you take it to the sand dunes, you will not regret. I have 2 fl400 pilot. And they are the best for de dunes. you’ll have a blast!
How do you get the brakes to work without closing the bleeder before you let back off the brake pedal!!!
She rips!
We used to play in the snow with these . They are wonderful ! Good Job .
learn how to use the tube bender.
Need to get the hovercraft and trailer home bro. Surprised someone hasn't took off with them yet. Cool vid. about the Odyssey. Keep up the good work.
Hack N Pack!! Put lots of spray paint over those bubble gum welds. Love it anyway
Now you need to find a set of the air scoops that go behind the seat to keep that engine cool(ish)!
When will it be ready for me to buy lol the more I’m watching this the cooler it’s looking. I have a banshee, blaster, ttr230, dads for a wrx450. Would love to have it out in west virginia mountains.
You should get you a one man bleeder .It's a hose with a one way valve they work really good.
used to have a 250 as a youth, back in the small town days. we would take it out and do rollover contests, it didnt last long!
These things are so rare and awesome i love it it's essentially a blaster engine on a go kart frame
Wait! What..???!!! No flannel today?
Great video. Looks like fun. Shame that they only made those for 1 year.
I had an odesy back in the day, great ride never any problems. I think it's time to move that hover craft getting mighty green there
I so much wanted one of those when I was a young lad in the 80s.I was 13 and ended up with a brand new XR80 which was also pretty cool.I rode the shit out of that bike.
Well I've always wanted an Odyssey. Now that I've watched one it action I want one more than ever
You should clean up that plastic before welding so you can fill the cracks and bond better. Also a piece of duct tape on the back to hold them together while you weld has worked for me.
Use those wrist straps. They’ll save your arms if you roll it. Your first reaction will be to reach out in a roll.
This is true
you should drill a small hole at the end of those crack lines to stop the crack from going further.
Great video, watching all that dust flying around had me coughing while sitting on this side of the screen,,,watching you getting into the seat is like trying to fit a sq peg into a round hole,, this is the 1st vid i have seen on the fl-350 in action, i did not know that they were that fast,,i remember seeing them as kid in the 80s but did not know anyone who bought one,,,,that is a keeper for your land
im no expert by any means. but id use the filler from the top. Make the top look better. dont think its really needed underneath with all the clips.
Im curious how wideis the rearend on the 350 oddosey
It’s funny to watch people try and figure out a tubing bender. You didn’t do it right but you did it right enough to make it work
I remember seeing them new on the showroom floor, back in the olden days
I'm glad to see it ru ning again, but I cri ged at the improper use of the tubing bender. The tubing goes under the bar and hinged lever, the you pull the lever. Should've used a metric flaring set since it's a metric bike. Also, there's a tool to straighten coiled tubing. Makes life easy.
Lol yea, I was looking for this comment
Hell yes, always wanted one them 85 until my buddy got a 89 or 90 polit. Had junker 78, or 79 had roll bar not cage. Ran but yeah. Had full cage 82 fl250 nice ad it used got it but nice. Set scorpions on back it go but beat ya to pieces.
I had one when I was growing up so much fun especially with inch or 2 of snow
Heavyweights movie!
Back in the day a buddy and I built from the ground up a home made version one of these that had an 1,000cc Ninja motor on it.. The wiring was a pain and getting the proper gearing but once we did omfg that thing was ignorant fast.. The only thing we didn't like is you had to shift a lot in the dirt but it was still a blast these things are every kids dream toy nice buy bud it brings back memories...
Lap belts of the harness are ment to go through the seat not over it to hold you in place.
