- The large egg-shaped cooking device, known as the Big Green Egg, takes its inspiration from ancient ovens. But for nearly 50 years the gastronomic gadget has been winning over fans who use it for everything from steaks to pies. Correspondent Serena Altschul looks at the magic of cooking with the egg. In the 60’s, our neighbor who worked on the docks told us that there was going to be an auction on Japanese kamados because of non payment of duty. We bought it and the accessories and we used it to cook/smoke our brined turkey and our sweet potatoes. It was huge compared to the big green egg. We had several offers to buy it but we held on to it until age finally caught up with it.
If that were true, U.S. Customs would have seized it. A lot of "stuff" goes on at the docks if you know what I mean.
This clip is more of an advertisement than anything else.
An egg-cellent news story.
I Love my EGG
Was this Chris Licht's attempt at a paid infomercial that told us nothing about the product?
Yum
Great reporting
Yummy 😋
I didn’t know ‘the big green egg’ was a real thing until THIS IS US.
Kamado Joe's are the same thing...except they come with the accessories. Big Green Egg appears to be less expensive, but then you have to purchase the grates etc...
@markbrobhy554 I agree 100%.
Chevy putting too much lighter fluid on again...
A barbecue grill for over $1000.00?! Yeah, I’ll pass.
You can go to a restaurant about 15 times for that kind of moolah
I get that, they are pricey. But my first BGE has been sitting outside, uncovered in the Arizona sun since Sep 11 2001 (Barbeques Galore stayed open just long enough for me to pick it up). Other than needing to replace the wooden handle, it looks nearly new and working like the day I got it home. Cheers!
Got rid of my green egg because it was a hassle to get it going and manage. Switched to pellet smoker that can mange the temp very closely and do everything the egg does and more. 10 minutes from start and I'm cooking.
Like artie's bear attire.❤
I built a vertical smoker that uses charcoal and/or propane for under $200 that runs circles around this
Kamado Joe 👊
My Weber charcoal grill does the same thing. At a fraction of the cost.
lol. NO, it doesnt. your charcoal weber grill is like a kids toy, like an easy bake oven compared to the green egg. once you actually try one, you will see what im talking about.
I remember when Serena was on M TV and she was an absolute hottie
marketing article
I can do all those things on my big kettle charcoal grill, and it's not even a Weber. I guess if the c-level officers and the directors of the company I work for want something showy for their vacation homes, they can buy a big green egg -- I sure as hell won't. My kettle grill cooks up a bunch of steaks or burgers, whole chickens, pork shoulder roasts, whole salmon, low and slow briskets or racks of ribs, and even loaves of cornbread and trays of veggies very well thank you. And I have my little hibachi grill for few steaks, burgers, kebabs, etc.
Enjoy your relatively small market big green egg. I'll never buy one.
Maybe got six months on my GE. Nice machine but switching to team red at time of replacement.
That might be a long time down the road 😁. My first as been sitting outside uncovered in the Arizona sun since Sep 11 2001, looks nearly new (should replace the wooden handle...) and is working like the day I got it home.
I was gonna make an egg pun comment, but I shell not.
Too expensive
You can find them on marketplace really cheap. Make sure you check them really good for cracks.
I love all the community charm and stuff, but isn't cooking in that charcoal smoke really unhealthy for you? I'm afraid there's a substantial body of research suggesting it is. Best wishes✌️🤝
Can the announcer speak any slower?
WAAAAAAY overpriced.
how you think they got this spot light and that stadium time?
I love this show but I hate how it always sounds as if the presenters are reading a storybook to babies. The words all drawn out and warm, the cadence so rhythmic and un-natural..
stole the name from Dr. Seuss.
Go Kamado Joe! It's the better kamado grill...
Does it cause climate change?
YA.....Next thing we know back yard Barbe-ques will be "banned"!!!! 😮😢
no, because there is no such thing as man made climate change. Al Gore lied and he is an Anti-Christ. If we get rid of carbon, the plants and trees will die and there will be no oxygen for us.
You prefer the big orange egg.
@@davidmitchell6873 All tastes the same to me
Point missed.
