  • At the end of summer 2019, I visited Canada for the first time. To get there, I had a huge range of options but there was only one it could be. I flew with Air Transat from Glasgow to Toronto return and managed to bag a decent deal for peak summer season. This is the return flight of the Trip, after flying on the Classic A310 on the outbound. The flight was a lot shorter than the outbound, due to a strong Jetstream. Overall the flight back was good, but I preferred the outbound flight. Make sure to watch the full TripReport to find out why.
One thing to note. Voiceovers will now be standard on my TripReports and I recently bought a new microphone to improve the quality. As more Trip Reports come out over the next few months, I will continue to fine tune my format.

Thanks Mylos. Yeah, it's not a common config on the A330, especially in Europe.

Air Transat ,, well yes indeed they were my favourite airline when travelling from Vancouver to Glasgow. Option Plus ,, nothing special really just a couple of minor perks. So now Transat no longer flies Vancouver / Glasgow non stop, the flight that used to take around eight and a half hours is now over fourteen hours.
I flew with Air Canada to Glasgow last September, I flew premium economy and I gave them five stars, excellent service, food was delicious flights right on time.
I'm off again to Scotland this August and I will certainly be flying Air Canada. Oh yes I did check out Air Transat, their fares for club class are just ridiculous, their club class is no more different than premium economy in other airlines.
Using the same dates in August 2020, Air Canada premium economy round trip Vancouver / Glasgow $ 2518.00 ,,, Air Transat club class Vancouver / Glasgow $ 3012.00. Makes you wonder why Transat no longer flies to Glasgow from Vancouver non stop ,, I've used that service a number of times and the planes were practically full.

Thanks for Watching. Thats a huge price difference. Air Transat have all their long haul flights from the East Coast only in Summer 2020. Westjet have taken their market from Calgary and Air Canada from Vancouver. The Vancouver flight also went via Manchester, as there wasn't enough pax to fill the plane from Glasgow in the peak summer. I hope this answers your question about the Vancouver flights.

@@DanielSander Well please correct me if I'm wrong. Is not the idea of operating a profitable airline to fill the seats ? ,, I would say definitely yes ,, we have flown with Transat six times in the past, Vancouver / Glasgow round trip. The fares ( including option plus ) were competitive that's all, give or take a few dollars not much different than B.A or A.C.
I believe the seating capacity in the Airbus 330 - 200 series which is the aircraft Transat was flying on the non stops to Glasgow from Vancouver was about 345 seats.
On each and every occasion we travelled around mid September and on every occasion the aircraft was full. I would venture to say that if you have a full load of passengers flying Vancouver to Glasgow and each passenger paying an average of $ 1000.00 per ticket ( round trip ) plus the revenue from the freight, that Transat certainly were not losing any revenue whatsoever from the Vancouver / Glasgow route.
So the fact of the matter is there is no non stop service from Vancouver to Glasgow anymore with any of the airlines. I'm not alone in saying that I'm disappointed, I believe that the principle selling point was the fact that the flight was non stop, depart Vancouver arrive Glasgow and normally just under nine hours.

Hate the 3-3-3. Seats are so narrow!
