3-3-3 ON AN A330?! Flying Air Transat's Airbus A330-200 from Calgary to Vancouver

  • Air Transat is a Canadian leisure airline that flies mostly to European and sun destinations from eastern Canada.
    However, one thing about their aircraft stands out - they fly mostly A330s in a tight 3-3-3 configuration - and Air Transat is the only airline in mainland North America with a setup like this on an A330.
    See what I thought of it on this short hop from Calgary to Vancouver!

So they joined a bunch of the smaller flights to Ottawa together onto one flight. An Air Canada 767-300er absolutely jammed packed, all Uni students. That was a fun and crazy 1 hour wide body flight :)

    There was a time when Air Transat had increased seat pitch and used standard configs (8 across) to match Air Canada's planes because Transat has gotten such a bad "sardine can" image that it was losing market share. But with Air Canada having gone to "charter" configs with 10 across on 777s and 30" seat pitch, it's sad to see Transat have reverted back to their old selves. So when it disapears next year, absorbed into AC, it won't really remove a choice.

  • @carlhaluss

    I flew Air Tansat a couple of years ago LGW-YYC and YYC-LGW. It was about 8-9hrs in a tight 3-3-3 config but it actualy wasn't that bad. Seats were comfy but narrow, legroom was Ok and crew were lovely.
    The cabin looks to have been updated since then. The IFE selection is ok but not great for a 9hr flight.

    Flew round trip on Air Transat from YVR to London Gatwick on an A330 last year. Its was cheap for a reason. Found my self as were a lot of other passengers standing near the washrooms as the seat was to too small for 9.5 hour flight. I ate my meal in the gally and had a middle seat as my spouse was sitting beside me and she couldn’t eat unless I moved. Our flight attendant felt extremely bad for us. Our return flight was on the 330-200 and leg room was much better is 14H but the seats again were extreme tight!

    Why such a short flight with a big rig? I lived in Toronto for decades and that’s almost like flying Toronto to Montreal?

    Nice video Alex, the A310 fleet has probably changed a little since I was on one, but I'd definitely recommend the bulkhead seats! Will be interesting to see what the ACA/ROU/TSC merger will bring, but I suspect either ROU or TSC will disappear.

    So here is the sad reality when it comes to Air Transat in Vancouver. They ( Transat ) were great, we could fly Vancouver to Glasgow non-stop usually eight and a half hours. Fares were competitive and my wife and I would always add " option plus " for a few extra perks. Flights were always on time and the service in flight was very good. Too bad, those days are gone ,, now from Vancouver to Glasgow it's a total of fifteen hours, first you fly to Toronto, spend four hours there before your flight to Glasgow.
    Well too bad, I don't quite see the reasoning in cancelling a non-stop Vancouver / Glasgow route. I've travelled that route a number of times with Transat and the flights have been full. No more Transat for me.

    What’s up with the curtain between Club and Economy? Usually, at least on the flights I’ve been on, the two classes were always separated by an actual wall. Anyways, thank you for making this trip report! It was awesome ✈️

    • @thearsenalmisfit2414
      @thearsenalmisfit2414 Před 4 lety

      The wall is fuel burning wieght that is not needed. Curtain are much lighter but look as tacky as hell.

    • @pieter1102
      @pieter1102 Před 4 lety

      @@thearsenalmisfit2414 The curtain is only above the headrest. A full divider would take up more space as the legroom for Row 4 cannot tuck under the Row 3 seats.

    Air Transat... not quite Canadian version of Sun Country, which I suspect is truly unique...

      @@1992AC i wouldn't count on that. The Max will still be gounded so Air Canada will need the extra seats. Right noew the are flying 767s out of Edmonton that are flying with just over 140 passengers to Toronto. Ive done this flight 3 times now and have the whole row to myself each time. Its great . Keep the Max ground for as long as possible as far as I'm concerned I will never fly on a max again.
