For me, it'll always be "The Missile".....
Susan DeMattei was my favorite. Bronze medalist at the '96 Olympics. Had the honor of meeting and chatting with her at the US Nationals in Utah in '96. Fantastic personality.

Great to see Martin back, but no mention of his Cannondale team mate Missy Giove! Possibly the first female MTBer to go global.

Her story makes it sweeter. Defies the common story of how they got into biking and grow to pro level, and defies common idea of pro after with a wild story. My GOAT. Also the sport grows and improves so each rider is a product of their time and you shouldn’t compare eras but appreciate the goat of that generation.
They're all great, but at this point in time the greatest for me is still Anne Caroline Chauson. She raced and won across multiple categories of cycling. And no matter what discipline, she was always revered.
Great to see Tracy Moseley and to hear her thoughts on the mountain biking race scene. Nice to hear Anna on the dirt shed show too!

Shoutout to my friend Rhian Atherton who raced alongside and against Tracy Moseley and that other Atherton lady (what was her name again? 😋) back in the day. That group of women Tracy referred to in her interview slot deserve so much love and respect for what they did to bring women’s participation forward. Greats and pioneers all! 🙌

Juliana 'Queen of the Dirt' Furtado even had a bike company named after her!
Jacquie Phelan, Cindy Whitehead and Julie Furtado here...I'm older!
Furtado was so dominant in XC that there was talk of her racing in the men's class.

Just the amount of names batted about in the show proves that women's MTB is going strong and is growing fast. There aren't any "once in a generation" riders any more because the race fields are full of them. It's great to see and the excitement of all the action is inspiring the next generation of female MTBers - Huge win for the sport.

The fact we can argue about who is the female GOAT just shows how many amazing female riders there are and how much they are pushing the sport

Matt jones isn't a Downhill rider tho and that was his first Downhill race so for a slopestyle rider to do a Downhill course is actually pretty impressive

I hope the nickname Chips sticks. Then, depending on the situation we can have Salty Chips (swearing), Cheesy Chips (bad jokes), Chips and Gravy (I'm thinking Anna covered in muddy slop) and Potato Chips (when she's having a quiet night in in front of netflix).
One of the great is endurance bikepacker Lael Wilcox who has multiple records and wins;. Then there single speed bikepacking legend Alexandria Houchin, who pretty much has all the single speed records.
I think it depends on the era you grow up in, growing up watching the Athertons, it can only be Rachel in my mind.
fwiw. 'greatest' [of all time] usually refers to the overall number of wins (or at least podiums)... but as you say, that is only one aspect - one might argue that 'personality' and being an ambassador is equally important, and certainly for me in the late 90's it was Missy who finally made mountain-biking rock'n'roll for girls.

There is lots of great women of course and i can't say who's the best. Watching all the girls killing it at Hardline was amazing, Rachels comeback in the UCI DH and to see Hattie Harnden and Gloria Scarsi compete at such level in the DH as well, It's just too much. Speaking on behalf of Sweden though i must mention Jenny Risveds, Emma Johansson and Susanne Ljungskog. And last but not least, who gives a rats ass about Sam Pilgrim not working with Monster anymore.
Surely you've got to compare the riders performance against their peers of the time. Rachel was/is awesome, but was she beating riders that would have been considered the goat if she wasn't there.

PFP beat the fields in 6 different categories, but they were all fairly similar i.e. high VO2max endurance sports. She seems to struggle when the courses get very technical.
