I really miss shows like this, simpler times! I wish I could turn back the clock, and redo my childhood! I can't be the only one that would like to do that!
Right.. Especially what's going on today! I'm so glad I grew up watching these great shows. None of this reality... Literally. On t.v. and real life now!! Feel sorry for kids growing up today. No real connection
I have really enjoyed watching these old reruns. I was a teenager, when Rhoda on TV. I had forgotten Kenneth McMillan was a regular on the show. I liked him as the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune!
The Duke will die before these eyes and he'll know! HE'LL KNOW THAT IT IS I! BARON VLADIMIR HARKONNEN WHO ENCOMPASSES HIS DOOM!!! Kenneth McMillan, DUNE-1984(?)
Great episode. i enjoyed it Rhoda should have liked her Mom there. she did a great job and helped out. it was only a fill in gig. Her Mom was good at everything .and Rhoda felt threatened.
This was a good episode, the problem with Ida was she was not a particularly likeable character, like Phyllis on MTM. They were very funny but in small doses.
Kenneth McMillan was a revered New York stage actor, and a great helpmate to actors- was scary-good in RAGTIME (movie); Conceptually, you are correct… He made many specific changes to make it more his own. And I also bet Asner would object to you calling him “poor man’s answer” to something he STILL managed to make more specific- died too young, too.
There was a meat shortage and prices were quite high. The opening shots of the MTM show in later seasons has her at the meat counter and putting a package of meat in her cart with a look of disbelief is a nod to the high meat prices.
Michael Jackson was beautiful and an angel. The fact that you have to say “I hate to say it…” shows you are racist and ignorant. He was a gentle soul who America killed because this country is full of negative and vulgar idiots like you
If a person is tired from overwork, they don't want to work-out. I sure wouldn't want to. Jogging would be the last thing on one's mind. Most sitcoms made any year after 1990 have no plot, and are not funny. Same goes for the current ones that are new.
What a comedown, from being her own boss in an artistic career to selling costumes for some rude old bastard and being outdone by Ida? What’s next? Is Rhoda going to become a bagwoman? First they kill her marriage for no reason and now her career. Far from feminist, these writers are jealous, insulting, and sadistic toward beautiful, smart, and talented women.
Rhoda wanted a change. While I'm proud she started her own business and that's one reason why I love and admire her so much, if you aren't happy in a job anymore why stay. Rhoda wanted to move on. She showed us that it's okay to change jobs.
Rhonda was a great show. I was shocked when Rhonda and Joe become separate. Did you notice she never had any other dates. She was always hung up on joe.
I wish Brenda and Gary would have been a serious couple. Rhoda is too much of a critic of everyone. It'd be fun working with Ida. Rhoda might have poor self-esteem, but she thinks she knows more than anyone she ever works with. To me, she would be a wet blanket.
+Jody Swan This episode, yeah. However half the episodes had a female writer or co-writer. Charlotte Brown & Gloria Banta wrote 41 of the 110 episodes between them and there were other female writers as well.
Regardless of your opinion, men can write women's dialogue and situations, and women can write men's situations and dialogue. Lots of good scripts of The Golden Girls were written by guys; same with Alice, The Facts of Life, Hot in Cleveland, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and so on. Based on your comment you must also think women shouldn't write for men's shows. Tell that to Ruth Flippen or Peggy Elliott (The Odd Couple) and Shelley Zellman (Barney Miller) and Ann Flett-Giordano or Suzanne Martin (Frasier). What a silly attitude. So, a man can't put himself in the mind of a woman? A woman _must_ write every story for female characters? To you, a guy can't relate to single women. Well, that's what writers do-- they empathize, they put themselves in another person's shoes.
I'm loving this season, but Valerie's makeup is terrible. It's the wrong color and shade makes her look gaunt, especially after her weight loss...very distracting to someone who is always paying attention to her fabulous style
I dont disagree with every point you made but this review was over the top click bait in nature. "Gaslight, gatekept. Girlbossed" seriously? You always accuse people on the left of using words like gaslight about really dumb stuff, which is true but you are doing to same thing here to be clicky. I would love an evenhanded, well-rounded criticism, but this is not it. Also, in the original Tiger Lily is Indigenous American and she does actually help Peter. That kind of the point, friends helping each other is a core theme of Peter Pan. Anyway, i know disney sucks lately but review should still be fair rather than clickbait
"Rhoda" is gorgeous but her hair and styling did not age well. Her outfits, especially the shoulder pieces look very outdated and she is usually slightly overstyled (like the stupid necklace in this episode) Brenda on the other hand wears mostly basics and crosses over to menswear and oversized quit often. This makes her style and even hair look very timeless.
I assumed that Halloween was one of those fictitious pagan festivals created by writers for all American tv shows and movies. This was considered somewhat strange and weird by some Australian viewers during the 1970s. We had a totally different culture and customs. The flamboyant fashion sense from the 1970s was terrible.
I agree about Halloween but I like the Fashions of the '70s here in the states. Finally then small breasted women have some clothes to wear that were flattering
I love those seventies boots, peasant blouses, and peasant skirts.
I really miss shows like this, simpler times! I wish I could turn back the clock, and redo my childhood! I can't be the only one that would like to do that!
Yeah I feel the same!!!
Holly Shively i would do it too
Me too
Right.. Especially what's going on today! I'm so glad I grew up watching these great shows. None of this reality... Literally. On t.v. and real life now!! Feel sorry for kids growing up today. No real connection
Same here!!
Love Ida ❤️❤️❤️ I’m glad she’s back!
Me too the quicker picker upper lady hehe I still remember those paper towels commercials
Gary just keeps getting more and more attractive!
His bubble-butt had me from day 1
I always thought Ida was a hoot!
Best mother daughter team in TV history.
Ida and Rhoda are great. But then again so is Sophia and Dorothy on Golden Girls. And no way could I leave out Mama and Eunice on Carol Burnett
This is the perfect episode for this time of year. Loved it.
I have really enjoyed watching these old reruns. I was a teenager, when Rhoda on TV.
I had forgotten Kenneth McMillan was a regular on the show. I liked him as the Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune!
Loved this show the Cast was so Great. Miss It
I sympathize with Rhoda. Ida reminds me of my mother who drives me crazy. I can do no right.
You can get down on your knees and thank God that you have a mother that cares.
I was disappointed when Gary didn’t come back season 5
"Take him someplace." (7:01). I just love that!
Season 4 is really enjoyable!
That gag with Ramon was hilarious!! ''Go get the witch costumes!'' ''Which costumes?" ''Yes.'' Just like ''Who's on first''.
The Duke will die before these eyes and he'll know! HE'LL KNOW THAT IT IS I! BARON VLADIMIR HARKONNEN WHO ENCOMPASSES HIS DOOM!!! Kenneth McMillan, DUNE-1984(?)
It's the best thing in this episode, that exchange.
I love all the dark teal like colors in the season. They are beautiful
I love Ida. I want my own Ida. Go team Ida.
I will never understand the divorce between her & Joe. They were a great couple...dam writers
Hey, thanks so much for this! I've been waiting several years to see season 4 and 5,
Great show & episode
RIP Valerie
Nancy Walker had an incredible figure for a woman well into her fifties here.
I wouldnt go that far...
50s? I thought she was past 60.
@@CrystalM1917 I bet you are a whale
Ida jogs in
Rhoda: “...Ah yes, Billie Jean morganstern “
😂😂😂😂
Great episode. i enjoyed it
Rhoda should have liked her Mom there. she did a great job and helped out. it was only a fill in gig. Her Mom was good at everything .and Rhoda felt threatened.
Erik, There wasn’t anyone like Rhoda😄
This was a good episode, the problem with Ida was she was not a particularly likeable character, like Phyllis on MTM. They were very funny but in small doses.
I watch the show for Nancy Walker. Shes the best.
They loved the word terrific
I'd forgotten about the candy tubes with the plastic devil and the skull!
the Doorman sounds just like Garfield
+Lune Bleue He's the voice of Garfield. His name is Lorenzo Music.
I knew I knew the voice from somewhere. And Brenda is marge Simpson lol
I love Rhodas brown skirt and top she looks gorgeous
It may sound weird but I find it cool that Julie Kaver is wearing a pair of Onitsuka shoes in this episode.
Made by Asics...This was after the Mexican Olympic team wore them in 1966 games, hence the shoe name: Mexico 66!
Gotta say-Ida's got great gams.
Jack was the poor man’s answer to Lou Grant for this show
Kenneth McMillan was a revered New York stage actor, and a great helpmate to actors- was scary-good in RAGTIME (movie); Conceptually, you are correct… He made many specific changes to make it more his own. And I also bet Asner would object to you calling him “poor man’s answer” to something he STILL managed to make more specific- died too young, too.
Interesting shorter theme here!
$3.60 for 1 pound of corned beef then, $4.34 now at Costco. Not bad.
Yeah but the grade of beef was better back in the 70's..Not injected with hormones
There was a meat shortage and prices were quite high. The opening shots of the MTM show in later seasons has her at the meat counter and putting a package of meat in her cart with a look of disbelief is a nod to the high meat prices.
Thanks mtm
I hate to say this but Valerie Harper looks like Michael Jackson in this episode. :(
You mean M.J. looks like Rhoda! Lol
Michael Jackson was beautiful and an angel. The fact that you have to say “I hate to say it…” shows you are racist and ignorant. He was a gentle soul who America killed because this country is full of negative and vulgar idiots like you
In the open credits....are those stands really open 24 hours day in NYC??
yes they are
Is it just me lost sound on season 4?
How come the little witch didn't give back the two bags of candy she got? She was going to a costume party after all.
23:15 - Nancy Walker was not even 5 feet tall!
Wait, this woman sounds familiar. Did she play Sophia Petrillo's sister Angela?
Yes!!
Yes

Revolutionary you are a tired old hag. All you do is come on here to bitch about this show. Why do you watch? Hit the road!
"Rhonda" ? (spelled that way twice)
Good ol' Rhonda had many dates. 😂😂
*Rhoda *became separated
I wish Brenda and Gary would have been a serious couple. Rhoda is too much of a critic of everyone. It'd be fun working with Ida. Rhoda might have poor self-esteem, but she thinks she knows more than anyone she ever works with. To me, she would be a wet blanket.
M
Men wrote this. Supposed to be all about a single woman.
+Jody Swan This episode, yeah. However half the episodes had a female writer or co-writer. Charlotte Brown & Gloria Banta wrote 41 of the 110 episodes between them and there were other female writers as well.
Pat Nardo was another one, I think
I saw the writers names on the credits for this episode. Just my opinion. It's like me writing for a men's sitcom. Not. :)
Regardless of your opinion, men can write women's dialogue and situations, and women can write men's situations and dialogue. Since it was Halloween here, I would've like to have seen Valerie Harper in a cute Snow White costume. And by cute, I mean sexy.
I'm loving this season, but Valerie's makeup is terrible. It's the wrong color and shade makes her look gaunt, especially after her weight loss...very distracting to someone who is always paying attention to her fabulous style
yuck
K Prieto Seriously? She looks AWESOME.
Her face looks grey
Wow. I guess season four writing wasn't well envisioned nor executed. The cast is great but such horrible dialog.
But with Nancy Walker? EVERYTHING BUMPS UP a notch...!!!
introduction to long
*too long

That one season Valerie Harper look so bad.she had gain weight. She trying lose weight before the season.
Pam, Valerie looks fantastic.
I like Brenda but she needs to lay off Rhoda. Rhoda works long hours, and is exhausted. Brenda works at a bank.
The writing was not very good in this season
"Rhoda" is gorgeous but her hair and styling did not age well.

You just want attention cuz ya mommy molested you …go cry to A therapist Mary Sue
I agree about Halloween but I like the Fashions of the '70s here in the states. Finally then small breasted women have some clothes to wear that were flattering
Oh brother. I need another break from Ida😮.
