I never was crazy about Jack Doyle. I thought he was rude to his customers and to Rhoda. I never thought it was fun for Rhoda make costumes. I like her window dresser business.
I thought that restaurant was real cute!! I liked the message here. Looks are NOT what's important. And Jack's response ''In this world, looks are all that's important.'' So true, and this was a while ago!! Good looks are fantastic, but if the person below that beauty is shallow then it's not worth it. Good looks should just be a bonus, not your objective, in finding a mate.

Me too, people can be so snobby and uptight. I can enjoy any kind of situation from a coffee shop to a 5 star gourmet restaurant, a well written drama to a slapstick comedy. It's all about being open and appreciative of everything.A lot of people out there are unfortunately too ego oriented to be any fun.
Kenneth McMillan ("Jack") died very young - age 55 from liver disease. McMillan was a wonderful character actor.
He was only about 46 here. I would've thought he was at least 56! He didn't age well at all! Maybe because of the liver disease.

How did they take one of the best 70’s style characters on tv and turn her into this frumpy old lady looking Rhoda ? Shame on the wardrobe department.
Brenda is my favorite character on this show 💜 And I'm glad Tina came back 💛
Tina was funny for a minute... but she got old and annoying REALLY fast.

I love that restaurant! (Am I a child or what?!) I think it's a fun concept. When I lived in Denver, I enjoyed going to this one mall where the shuttle was cute train with rubber wheels. I remember this one set of twins (blond blue-eyed four year old boys) who had on outfits even though it wasn't Halloween and were just tickled to be on the shuttle. One was a conductor and the other a fireman. Anyhoo! Unlike Arlene, I would've enjoyed that restaurant. Not boring at all! Plus, I would've been interested in chatting with Benny about he and Brenda considering that place as a venue to celebrate their wedding reception.
I thought I was the only one who would LOVE a restaurant like that.

It's so long ago now, and a different industry standard compared from today. Today, they probably would try to build the slow burn of their relationship in the first season to drag out audience's anticipation; will they, won't they thing. Back then I think it was more of a "make it a hit" right from the get go to make the cash up front and worry about how to keep the audience coming back for more, later.
Never mind the quality of the writing as long as ratings are still high enough. They had a good core cast, but it felt like they were being wasted on the drivel in the scripts, IMHO.

Rhoda's hair looks like a 1940s perm. Jack's new style is weird, but his hair dye is okay.
Yeah I noticed Rhoda's hair was great in Seasons 1 and 2 and then she got really bad hairstyles. I know it was the 70s, but those hairdos did not suite her.
I want to know the diet that they used for all of the actors on Rhoda...😊

I cannot believe they are giving the ridiculous character Tina air time. What the fk were they thinking? And to lose Gary for this season, ugh! It was bound to fail after Joe left anyway, im watching this season just to say I finished it off. The only scenes worth watching have Ida in them, she's their saving grace I tell ya.

In the scene where Jack has been 'laminated', as Rhoda says, Jack looks a lot like Flavio Briatore the Italian businessman. :-)

Why do the writers always find a way to insult Rhoda? I have never been able to stand Jack or Benny and how they treat her. Rhoda is much more gorgeous than that redhead, though the producers have done their best to uglify her this season, and she deserves to have a worshipful boyfriend as much or more than Brenda. It’s as if the writers were jealous and wanted to put her down at every opportunity ... including having her ordered around by the cleaning lady. Three seasons ago she was an icon of style, independence and glamour. Now she’s working for an abusive bastard in a costume shop and somehow become the den mother to a bunch of bad character actors. I hate what they did to her and to this show ... a harbinger of all the bad TV and culture ever since.
I noticed that too. In season 4 Valerie looks anorexic and Ida is still insulting her weight.

Why does it go blurry in some scenes? Has this been edited or paused for ads when it was recorded? This is very annoying.
They are edited for time so they can add more commercials, antenna TV does this a lot

This season was NOT on DVD like the other seasons. It seems to be recorded off of TV and uploaded to Usenet and then downloaded by various people. The blurry and breaking is caused by the upload breaking and Usenet is using par files to recreate was "it thought" was there..
All the episodes in season 5 have glitches.

Um, Rhoda worked with Jack everyday and hadn't paid attention to Jack's weight loss even though she admits she knew he was on a diet? Where has everyone else been that they are also just noticing his weight loss...they could have handled this better. Shabby writing
Having watched every ep of Rhoda, I can say there's about 4 seasons of shabby writing.

Yes, you are both wrong or I’m a simple person! I’ve watched every episode and enjoyed them all!
The writing on this show is SO uneven. Part of it was on MTM, Rhoda was abrasive, obnoxious, rude and even mean (She was mean even to Mary on a few episodes.) This is WHY she was so funny. She didn't take crap and though she was insecure, she could handle herself in any situation. On her own show it was hard to watch Rhoda become more and more neurotic each season.

Rhoda suffered with those irregular supporting characters: Tina, Myrna, Sally, Ramon, Johnny Venture etc. They lasted a dozen of episodes and never appeared again. This weakened the show so much...

I think with this Jack character they were really polishing a turd. He really was an uncouth slob with no redeeming qualities. If they were trying to build a Lou Grant they really screwed up.

I have always enjoyed Rhoda from her 1st episode of The Mary Tyler Moore show. I laugh out loud at every episode of Rhoda; something I don't do at most of the shows currently on TV. Great cast; Brenda, Nancy Walker, etc. I did like Rhoda's hair straight though! Thanks for all of the great entertainment!!! RIP Valerie Harper....
Benny should not have let Brenda walk all over him and tell him what to do. He should tell her what to do.
Brenda shouldn't even be with Benny... He's so unmanly...he's insecure and boring 😂 Still hoping she'll meet some really cool guy..
