I might be one of the biggest fans of this series on the planet, but this episode is always a blast to watch.
my favorite one is about the hooligans.
@@disciplemike1 tThe Hoolagals and the Puffians.
“Your hair looks like hell!” I was 15 yrs old at the time, I remember this line 33 yrs later. It’s still hilarious.

This show beings me back to the decent old days.😉
Very nice show 😊😊😊
So kind, so harmless, so care free, and sooo funny.
So glad we get to experience these shows, once again!!
Such a soothing theme.
Deadpan Bob Newhart humor is hilarious :)
One of the best ... correction, this is THE best episode ever. Thank you for making it available.
Agreed!
Yes, when it aired in spring 1989, I thought that this is THE episode. I got this season on DVD and, irritatingly, they cut Michael singing "My Favorite Things" when the lights go out. It was a great callback. I wonder if it was a copyright issue.
Both sitcoms Bob Newhart had were hilarious...I watched every episode of both shows when new.
Actually he had 4 series, and they were all great. Bob Newhart Show, Newhart, Bob, and George and Leo.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" ...lmbo. It's so rare to see Dick so angry which of course is hilarious.
Yes, I noticed that myself. Joanna also used "damn" when she spilled the Clamato juice on the pillow (but didn't clean it up?). I had not remembered such "terrible" language back then. Obviously, it is dwarfed by current culture. Great episode, so is the Stratford Horror Picture Show.
One of best episodes of whole series!
Haunted inn episode was also great
I agree! Love this episode!
@@arslant222 Yes ! The Stratford Horror Picture Show episode, my 2nd favorite.
I watched every ep new, but this is a good mystery episode for anyone who never watched it. It is one of my fave eps.The people in the lobby should know Dick's character, that he wouldn't kill anyone, least of all his wife. Officer Shifflet was on an ep of The Walton's and a Dial spray ad from 1973. I like Joanna's sweater that she wore at breakfast. This show is hilarious, and so is this ep.The theme music is beautiful. Wonderful 1980s classic sitcom.
Thank you for more info. This is my favorite episode
The whole series was a dream
Was? Or maybe still IS a dream for all we honestly know? Only who is dreaming this, you or I, maybe a neighbor or friend? Anyways, if this is one, then it's been a long dream huh? Not the best dreams, but not the worse of nightmares any either. So what harm is it to dream, or maybe just keep on "row row rowing your boat" until "life it but a dream"?
"Shh... dream...just dream... you didn't hear any silly little comment just now... no, little dreamer... shh...rest well, and rest good... just dream... dreams... dreams..."
I love how crazy the town is!
F YASSSSSSS !!!!
I would not call it " crazy " , because anyone growing up in a small- town place , village , in the old days without TV , no library , no nothing , knew people like the ones shown here , they used to be called " characters " , as in : she / he is quite a character .
It's also typical simple German humor !

I love this show. Bob has always been my favorite actor since I was little. Good down-home clean comedy. Not the garbage that is on TV nowadays.
Yes, when people still had social graces, etiquette and women acted like ladies.
Great show, but there’s some good recent shows too, like “The Unicorn” and “Schitt’s Creek”. I try not to live in the past.
Bob was an accountant before TV fame.

You should watch Parks and Rec. It has the same spirit and lack of swearing. It even has goofy townspeople!
Shifflet is soooooo FUNNY!!!! He actually had to look at his book when he was talking about his daughter. What's wrong Shifflet, can't you remember your kids name?! HaHa!!!!
The best way to tell this was set in the 20th century is that the characters in the cast all appear to have read an entire book overnight.
But Stepanieallia (sp?) only read the pages including her :-) Yes, that was amazing that they all had read the book so quickly, I quite agree.
@@John-ih2bxWhen I was young I did the same thing by just looking for the parts with the shark while reading Jaws. 🦈
AAh Joanna's banana clip. Love those 80's hair accessories
The headband bows too.
‘What do you want to do tomorrow night?’.
George has too much time on his hands.
He's got a typewriter!
" Freeze zombie "...lmbo smile and giggle.
RIP Peter Scolari
Thank you posting RIP for Peter Scolari… I didn’t know he passed away, Oct 2021 apparently.
I saw Peter play at the Celebrity Golf Tournament in '88.
Peter was one hilarious guy! RIP🕊🧡🕊
@hamradiocomms
Boom Buddies With Tom Hanks, I watched & loved that show too!!!!
Peter Playing a CRAZED Ragging Psycho was darn good acting -
"That was fun, what do you want to do tomorrow night"
Thanks for the upload..This my favorite episode.xd
They're all good. "Take Me To Your Louden". "The Final Episode" "Pirate Pete" . . . . . .
Great entertainment. Thank you.
Good old Jonnycake gets a mention again.
No it is I who is the biggest fan of this good, clean, down home country living laughing and loving show! ❤🎉😂❤
“Blow the match out!!! Your hair looks like hell!” 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lauphed my butt off through this whole episode but that part in particular was absolutely hilarious!
The intro with the car driving through the countryside peaked my interest when I thought I could read a few of the names on the signpost near the end. A little google street view and yup! It's Center Sandwich NH which is the next town over from where my sister lives!
Piqued your interest.
Thank you for the info
that scene was from On Golden Pond and used in Newhart !
I like how they all start to get serious when they see the blood on the cushion.
🤔
I'm a sad old man who saw this originally and had forgotten it, and who sometimes cries, but I found myself happily laughing with every funny line. That means I laughed the entire show. What kind of an innocent writer's brain created this humor, and why isn't this taught in schools from kindergarten through college? Might work, might turn us all back into healthy and civil, make newspapers look for things to report instead of news bringing it on time after time. This is so 'non-politics' it's pathetic, and this episode makes being serious-on-purpose even seem pathetic. Live well by laughing often! Learn decent joke, then share it. Laughter is the freest fun there is, all the other 'happy' cost more that it does. Even a single coke or ale cost more than a laugh does, and a laugh is so, so sweet, never warm, flat, bitter or hoppy.
Hey, that mailman was 'Hank Kimball' from the Green Acres show! His real name was, Jack Moore. He passed away back in 97. He was the scatterbrained County Agricultural Agent; he would make a statement then immediately contradict it with another, and another... until a very frustrated Mr. Douglas stopped him! He was awesome... but Mr. Haney was the best with his "That'l be a dollar Mr. Douglas" lol
Yes I remember him now..xd
His name was Alvy Moore.
Yes! He looked completely different but sounded so much like Hank Kimball. Not wanting to miss anything they said, I forgot to watch the credits. So many excellent actors/actresses on "Green Acres!" This mailman was second guessing himself a bit, too! I must admit I caught myself parroting "Hank" after an episode that featured him! 😜
@Jeff. His name was Alvy Moore. He was a fantastic actor!
@@lynettepalecek3141 Hey there, Lynette! ☺ Good to see you again! Yes, Alvie Moore; was also decorated in WWII as a Marine. I loved him in Green Acres; he and Mr. Haney were my favorites; they were so funny! See you later. ❤
My favorite show. I love when Chester was yelling "Thomas Hill" Bridge is out. Thomas Hill wasn't on that episode "Jim" I didn't know that Harley died. George mentioned his WAKE.
RIP Harley
Which episode was that?
I like how they obviously work around Julia Duffy's pregnancy.
Her name is Julia Duffy.
@@lynettepalecek3141autocorrect. I fixed it.
This was one of my fave eps. It was hilarious.
This one plus haunted inn was also great
and the snow making episode too
🌟❤🌟❤🌟❤🌟❤🌟❤🌟🌟great episode..
"Oh shut up Michael".
..".ohh was that you???"
And shut up dick.. xd 😀
Yes yes yes and yes bring back the good days
I always liked it when a sitcom did a “spooky” episode . This one was great!
One of the funnier ones!
That was awesome!
Thank you so much. Love this series.
And river is only 2 inches deep
There's a torrential downpour and the river washed the bridge out yet it's only two inches deep?
"Get out of my inn"!
Yes!
Green Acres brought me here
Officer Shiflet was the best character.
He was awesome!
He reminds me of “Little Levitt” from Barney Miller.
He was on an episode of golden girls
Joanna looks more like Donna Mills here.. XD
Tom Poston lol-the bibles a pretty good book too🤣
Since when did Joanna's mother live in Albany? Her parents lived in Ohio in season two when they visited for Thanksgiving.
Really good episode. It's fun to see the townsfolk. Miss Goddard and Officer Shifflet were nice additions to the show. And the inn is a suitably spooky setting for people seeking shelter on a rainy night.
Ms goddard, aka Kathleen Kinney played mimi on the drew carey show
I hate when writers do not do their research
This false accusation of murder reflects the hysteria and illogical madness we are going through right now.
"First we overlook evil, Then we permit evil. Then we legalize evil. Then we promote evil. Then we celebrate evil. Then we persecute those who still call it evil." Fr. Dwight Longenecker
11:36, allusion to Mimi calling Drew a pig.
That Mimi character is a wild one.
I also loved The Drew Carey Show 😍 ❤️ ✨️ 💖!!!!!
The funniest scene .was mimi in her wedding dress..that lit up when she pushed a button..lolol
bob newhart is one of the best at clean sitcom comedy. funny and clean.
Dick got more grief over writing that book and all those crazy townpeople jumping to conclusions. That was one of the best episodes.
Am I wrong, isn't that me-me from Drew Carey's show??? I loved her in that show.
Bob Newhart did an episode of Alfred Hitchcock presents if how to murder your wife .. XD
21 people don't like a Newhart episode? Must be Seinfeld, Friends, and Big Bang Theory fanatics.
Blech Friends and Big Bang Theory are overrated and generic. However Seinfeld is one of the great ones along with Newhart, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, Sanford and Son, The Andy Griffith Show, Night Court etc.
or The Bob Newhart show.
@@kendallrivers1119 Barney Miller
@@ScarlettFire341 I was hoping to come back and offer sage advice to my coworkers like Inspector Luger, but when I retired they took my gate badge.
@bookend - I like those shows too, but LOVE "Newhart"!!!!
French farce at the Stratley
Hehe! Joanna head was bashed in, she was dismembered, and her parts were thrown in the lake as catfish food. And Joanna was so perfect, pristine and regal. My god!
She also had epoxy resins on her wedding gown!
I like the original Newhart when he was a psychologist
Would've loved to have seen Stephanie meet Sandra Clark from 227. They'd either be best friends or worst enemies lol.
All of those opening scenes are from New Hampshire not Vermont. I went to prep school for three years there. I'm familiar with every shot, because I lived there. The only picture of Vermont is a still of the Greene Mts at the end.
Someone commented on another video that the opening shots are from the movie On Golden Pond and are indeed scenes of New Hampshire.
Thank you, I was wondering. I lived in Mass. for 10+ years. The "local" folks are hysterical.
"Not and work for me!" Bob gets the great line! He'd be castigated for it today, but I'd still laugh!
I was young and in love with those women ❤..
OMG “Johanna” is from Painesville, Ohio!!! I live in Painesville and have never heard it mentioned on any TV show! Whaaaat?
George remind me to fire you
And bring me your Loudon oh yes the Halloween episode have mercy I love new heart
What’s the “Stratley”?
“The ‘Thomas Hill’ Bridge,” eh? (AKA: Jim Dixon on “Newhart”…) 🤔
This has the most comments of all Newhart episodes!
It's impossible to read with cucumber slices on yer eyes. I no, I've tried it
He could hear a pig drop.
Was Bob dreaming the opening title sequences, too?
Sure, why not
They really didn't know until after SEASON 6 that they were going to make it all a dream. Bob knew, but no other cast members did. How he was able to keep a secret for that like 2 years would be interesting to know.
@@eternalhalloween1 Yes he talks about that on youtube. He was able to throw people a placebo when there was talk about George burnes on the show .When there was no such thing. .But he did get someone else on the show XD
@@MrCraigblaze Yea. Obviously, some people were upset that the ending 'negates' the series. But I didn't see it that way. The series was very real for years. It was just a funny way and a good way to end it.
@@eternalhalloween1 Yes .It was also good that the show took down to 4th wall to by doing that.. Bob was also upset at CBS for them when they kept moving the show around. From time slot to time slot..I did like when "Suzy" came back in the finae xd 😀

Johnny cake lake. Lol
Stratley????
Stratley?
The laugh track was really unnecessary. Thee episode can stand on its own.
Mr Kimbalq…
Sigh
Show was Great cuz they never showed the ghetto part of town.
