A team of individuals... ironically David Beckham was one of the few players that delivered for both club & country. He was spectacular for England.

it's a valid one tho ironically enough. because so much is made of the "golden generation" but it's not like other nations didn't have fantastic players of their own.

The best explanation given for this was from Frank Lampard. He was able to 'put a finger on it' and explain why the golden generation failed (because they did fail, they didn't even reach a single semi final plus failed to qualify for Euro 2008).

Bad management and an imbalance in midfield - rarely played with a controlling midfielder and always tried to get Gerrard and Lampard in. Needed a mix of someone like Alonso/ Carrick in there

Some of them don't get along because of their club rivalries. If they had put aside their rivalry for their country just like Spain did, maybe they might achieve something.

Maybe because they played a 442 when they had 3 brilliant midfielders? And even if you didn't have a proper CDM there, you could've played Barry, Carrick or Hargreaves.

Coz they were, as the current lot are, far from as good as they were perceived to be. Shrek for a start was bang average and like now, in form players weren’t selected if they were at a Non Big Club

I mean the spine of the team contained 2 world class defenders (for their clubs,) 2 world class midfielders (for their clubs) and Wayne Rooney up top (one of the best strikers to play in the prem) pretty sure it was down to bad management and poor team chemistry.

The golden generation of England who failed miserably in the world cup and European cup because they didn't have a winning mentality 😅😅
