      English club rivalries was even worse in the past.
      Even if there are problems, it never stopped them.
      They simply unlucky, ricardo was too good, and erikson was stupid for forcing gerrard and lampard together when he should've played carrick with just one of them.
      Also, their goalie shite. Seaman retired really early omgoal shouldn't bother putting his name, and put terry alongside ferdinand instead.

    Michael Carrick was underrated because he was never the typical english/ premier league midfielder. He was calm composed solid in attack and defense. I don’t think England are ever gonna have a player like Carrick again he’s probably the only “Regista” England ever had. I mean you’ll find an attacking midfielder like Lampard, a box to box midfielder like Gerrard or Scholes in near future but never a deep lying playmaking defensive midfielder like Michael Carrick. If he was of some other nationality preferably Spanish or French..his story would’ve been very different. I still believe the reason why this “golden generation” underachieved was due to the fact that they always overlooked a player like Carrick who stabilises the entire midfield and defence( something which Busquets, Kanté, Casemiro, Fernandinho do for their teams).

    Stop blaming 4-4-2. Simeone and Ranieri won league titles in the 2010s using 4-4-2. What you people don't seem to understand is that the decline of 4-4-2 since the mid-2000s is bad for football. In most cases, you don't get an attacking Barcelona-style 4-3-3 as a replacement, but a boring 4-2-3-1 leading to endless midfield battles and fewer goals.

    • @sokukenable
      @sokukenable Před 3 lety +1

      Its not the 442, its the players didn't fit a stereotype 442. 442 needs strong wingers on both sides, England only had 1 side, so they forced one of their strong CM on flank. Aside from Rooney, there aren't another English striker that can operate as lone striker in 4231 system, so the logical choice was either 433 or a 442 diamond to fully utilize their FBs. There were many problems to those England squad, but the biggest was lack of management whether tactically or characteristically.

Recent true golden generation is of Spain: 2008-2012, Italy: 1990-2006(eventually won something at 2006, but played couple of finals before and were eliminated only at penalties) , Germany(2002-2016), France:(1998-2006 and then 2014-present), Brazil:(1994-2002), Argentina: emerging. Even Portugal Golden generation played finals and eventually won something. English media, marketing, PR teams created such hypes for average celebrity type players who look good only with the support of foreign players. Their main Stricker scored only 1 goal in 3 world cup says a lot, how good they are and how much media feed fake hypes to viewers. It's like selling fake product in original packaging. Same with Belgium at-least they play good, whereas England golden generation didn't even done that. The most unluckiest golden generations are of Holland and Uruguay. England footballing are not there yet and not part of elite group of players. England playing their first final in Euro says a lot about them. @@supersbbrawl4ever You mean in English players? I disagree with that. The prem was not the best league in the world back then. So they looked better playing at a lesser standard than what these English players play in now. They were mainly overrated apart from Ashley Cole who was always superb at any level. Gerrard and Lampard could not string two passes together in that England side. Beckham was very good but was injured going into tournament and should not have even been there. England never had a great goalkeeper. David James? Robinson? Average. Rooney was just 18 going into those Euros and people thought he was the answer. He did have a great game against Croatia. Was a bit of a handful against France but you can't rely on an 18 year old to win tournaments. He was very raw. Owen was already a shadow of his former self. Scholes, the best technical midfielder we had at the time was played on the left wing when we were crying out for him in the middle. Owen Hargreaves a regular for Bayarn didn't get much of a look in because I guess he wasn't hyped. And throughout those years we had a top top midfielder in Carrick that barely got a game! Ridiculous.

    England: You know, we had the better team and the best players from the best league, a golden generation of superior players who were bound to win everything. The only reason why it failed is because the english players were individually soooooo good and soooooo much more talented that they couldn't get along and actually refused to play together as a football team, true story. All the while the mediocre players from the french and brazilians teams had no other choice than to play collectively, because that was the only way they could ever hope to beat the one and only true golden generation of football players. We were definitely the superior team despite not winning anything and being repeatedly beaten by the best teams of the era, there is no question about that.

    England has the complete squad as Milan from back on those days, the 4-4-2 should work for them the way Milan does:
    Midfield: Kaka-Pirlo-Gattuso-Seedorf
    Forward: Sheva-Crespo/Inzaghi
    The same does to England
    Midfield: Beckham-Gerrard-Lampard-Scholes
    Forward: Ronney-Owen
    The thing is the England football is never put a tactical programs into a whole different level and adjusted it to top level the way Italy do, just see how their clubs went into big stage for the last 20 years under non-england manager, Mourinho/Ancelotti/DiMatteo/Rafa/Etc come there and made a big difference.
    The another problem is yes they're kick and rush and they might explosive, but they're not as explosive as Brazil.
    And they didn't has someone like Zidane if they wanted to relay on one player.
    Chelsea on winning the 2012 CL considered a boring journey by many fans, but that's what tactics does for your team, you win titles.
    The same way how Liverpool play the 2019 final Vs Tottenham they weren't as explosive as their other matches they played but it was more about tactical and Klopp does the right thing to win that CL title.
    You just don't need a great defender to defending but you need a great defender who knows tactical and technical abilities to defend just like Maldini and Baresi.
    Cannavaro displayed this superiority of defending on the WC 2006.

      Neville lol. Dude was good but individually there were dozens of fullbacks a lot better than him. Same for Beckham, Lampard and Rio. The guys who truly were legends in their position and truly the world's best at their peak were Cole, Scholes and Rooney. When you dive deep into it you find this team isn't nearly as stacked, like Argentina had Aimar, Ayala, Cambiasso, Riquelme, Veron, Crespo, Tevez, Batistuta and a young Messi and they ain't even mentioned in the top 3 most talented generations of the 2000s even though they seem on total to have also a better team on paper than England

    People forgot France, Spain, Brazil, Italy and Germany and Netherlands are full of legend too. The different is England does not have great chemistry but they lacking key player that can change the outcome of the match. France has Zidane and Henry that can change the outcome of the game. Brazil has Ronaldinho and Ronald and Kaka to change the game and have great impact etc

  • @dzassault
    @dzassault Před 4 lety +3

    We tried too much to revolve around all the players instead of building around certain key players. That was the strategy that flourished mostly during the golden generation era for club AND country. We needed underdogs in the team that surprised us with bangers but instead we got a 11-man-league-superstar team that tried too hard neglecting the basic problem. It won’t work. I acc blame the management, how did they keep that simplistic type of thinking for nearly a decade knowing that it just won’t work. They tried to make a dream team into something that would be possible to work with. In our dreams, it would. But it’s a dream for a reason. Too many variables around the golden generation being squashed into a team together alone makes it unlikely for it to work unless they could play and train with that type of team for a prolonged period.

      @Muffin In penalties. We'll see how well England performs in major tournaments after UEFA Euro 2020. The Three Lions have finished in the top four in their last three tournaments in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2019 UEFA Nations League, and UEFA Euro 2020, but they need more top two finishes with a title or two to follow them up.

  • @richardg8376
    @richardg8376 Před 2 lety +1

    For me, a lack of strength in depth and and unbalanced team were the main factors. Yes, we had Rooney, but if he wasn't available then who could step up to take his place? Peter Crouch? A way past his best Owen? Decent players but not the guys to bring on and change a game. This is why Rooney had to play in 2006 even though he was miles off match fitness after breaking his foot just a few weeks earlier.
    As mentioned, we also desperately needed better balance to our midfield. We needed a manager who had the balls to drop either Gerrard or Lampard, and use the free slot to anchor the midfield properly so that whichever was playing could push forward and do the damage.
    Tactics also plays a part. From what I understand, Eriksson preferred a rigid formation, which greatly stifled the strengths of players like Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Gerrard.

    It really was a dream team.
    Although great individually as a team they never blended for some reason.
    Obviously at the moment we have nobody as good as Beckham, but we have a team that blended and after all DID REACH A FINAL.
