Funny how Sir Alex Ferguson criticism of David Beckham was about “making it his mission to be known” a guy he mentioned as to chose to become famous. Then afterwards C. Ronaldo comes up, takes the same jersey number David had at United. Also gets sold to Real Madrid later. Is considered bigger then the teams/clubs he’s played for and is one of the highest payed sports athletes of all time with lots of assets that make him famous by name. Just ironic if u ask me.

💯 for me the best coach Eva in the history of English football. Love from Australia and when I played the game 20 plus years ago my heart was and souls was man United and SAF and still is today.

Tavy@ i seem to remember when beckham left man utd and c,ronaldo came to man utd his skill and natural born ability was so good to watch it seemend that beckham wasnt even missesd or spoke about or rememberd in our thoughts. It was as if he hadnt been at utd to start with. Becouse we were amazed at watching ronaldo every week he was a pure joy to watch with all his tricks and he could do anything. Fergie just swapped a good player for maybe the greatest player in the world that no one had time to remember what beckham did. Becouse at 6' 2" ronaldo was just a pure machine. And beckham was 6ft himself. But remember the way ronaldo would just run into the box and out jump every one to bullet in a header. Then is dribbling was a joy, he could take a better free kick than beckham. Remember at old trafford in a cup game or maybe a leauge game that if we didnt get the 3 points we had lost the leauge to chelsea a believe and at 1-1 in the last 2 minutes to go utd got a free kick but it was at least 28 yards out, and i remember thincking no chance, not from that distance it just looks to far out and going into injury time. Then ronaldo stepped up and some how hit the ball with pace and swerve so hard it flew into the top corner, i couldnt believe it, the keeper had no chance and didnt move becouse he either didnt see it or he did but was to slow. But he didnt move? And am sure he only had about 4 in hes wall becouse it was so far out, so i find it hard to see he didnt see that shot coming. To try and get to it. Well the keeper was at least 6' 2" tall. Ronaldo must have just hit the ball so hard but with swerve the keeper just didnt see it coming so fast and the swerve flat foots a goal keeper becouse the keepers wall has got that side well coverd a player has no option but to bend the ball a bit to get round it or over it and ronaldo hit that about 80mph i still dont know how he managed it with a bend as well. And i will never know. But iam not sure if it was to win the leauge or to get them into then next round of the european cup. It was a long time ago. But its the best free kick i have ever seen. And i am age 47 and seen thousands of them. Alot come close very close. But not from that far out.
Fun Fact: they actually dont hate each other. Beckham has shown lots of respect publicly to him on social media, do better research.

I didn't actually know this rivalry between Beckham, and Ferguson but, well football is full of stories, and rivalries. As a matter of fact, it reminded me of the duel between Maradona - Riquelme in Argentina, where Juan Roman Riquelme wasn't summoned by Diego for World cup 2010. So Riquelme got hurt because of that, today he's Boca Juniors's current president but, I think the supporters love more Maradona than him, in spite of Riquelme was a Boca Juniors's ex-football player.
By the way, players living the life of a celebrity have started a long time ago, even before the days of Becks. George Best also live the lavish life of a celebrity outside the pitch, being a model and also a lot of partying and booze. So it's not Becks that started the 'normal' football celebrity life.
