Global trade is still heavily reliant on paper-based documents to ensure the flow of goods around the world. And the continued use of physical ‘Bills of Lading’ means there are lots of inefficiencies in the way the global supply chain works today.
The global trade industry has already agreed that ‘electronic Bills of Lading’ (eBL) will replace paper but, so far, adoption has been slow. One of the main challenges is the current lack of technical interoperability between the various players involved in each trade transaction.

Boaz Lessem is an experienced legal and product expert, focused on supply chain and trade finance digitisation fields especially with the use of decentralised blockchain technologies.
As Chief Legal, Regulation and Partnerships at WAVE BL Electronic Bill of Lading (eBL) Platform since 2017, he led the design of the platform’s eBL legal framework through its IGPANDI approval, in December 2019.
Today, WAVE BL is a leading eBL platform, commercially used by carriers such as MSC, HLAG, ZIM and ONE issuing eBLs to their customers worldwide.
Boaz has been an active participant in industry groups focused on the digitization of trade finance, interoperability between platforms, advocating for eBL adoption and use.
