Cave Story (2004) is a famous freeware (www.cavestory.org/) indie game notable for being made entirely by one person, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya.
Watch as nitsuja (tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/n...) completely destroys this difficult game with amazingly precise movement. This playthrough saves Curly and finishes with the best ending after beating Ballos.
The program used to make this run, Hourglass, was also developed by nitsuja-with the creation of this run in mind. As such, it is our first published run of a Windows game.

Downloadable encodes and the CZcams encodes include commentary as soft subtitles. - Hry
Whenever there's a boss fight in this, Quote basically disappears into a cartoon brawl dust cloud until the boss's HP bar is finished melting.
"She seems to want sex in return but this is a TAS so I just book it out of there"
Incredible.
another great line is "Quote is resisting the urge to test out his new missiles on them"
where is that at?
nvm i realized it’s at the part where chako is 😭
20:13 Funnily enough, the Switch version of Plus actually does let you carry multiple dogs (among other misc changes), and they even stack higher and higher as you pick them up. Really wish they'd backport some of the later QoL things to other versions of the game, but I'm sure there are mods to replicate them.
Cave Story multiplayer brought all this and more so we don't need a backport anymore
It also has custom downloadable skins and multiplayer for like 64 people, something the switch doesn't have
20:13 nicalis where like we got you bro
44:40 Holy shit you absolute madman I didn’t even notice
I love that there's a subtitle track for runner comments! I'd love that on a game I actually play, but congrats :)
Awesome, thanks for re-encoding one of my favorite TAS's
This TASer talks exactly like my best friend. Additionally I hate him for actually being able to complete this game, something I sure can't do
Wow, in less than 2 weeks we’ve seen the first published TAS of a Flash game and the first published TAS of a Windows game.
This TAS is almost 11 years old...
@@Spikechive Crap, you’re right. I wonder why it took them 11 years to publish this TAS?
@@johnclark926 It was reencoded with a fresh coat of paint.
Of course the TAS Cave Story guy is back
I love the idea that Quote is just filled with the need to blow stuff up.
the tas is playing cave story like its ultrakill i love it
Absolutely incredible
Those are some good captions

i found that he loss frames waiting for good rng
...why 2 fonts?
People had a choice of four fonts when playing Cave Story originally.
I just encoded out the two non-Proportional fonts for CZcams.
If the two heroes of Cave Story are named after coding punctuations, having a choice of fonts just seems right in line, don’t ya think?
@@Spikechivewait but like, how do you change the font for an already recorded video? Did he record his inputs or something? I don’t understand what you mean by that.
@@unparamount The game saves the desired/selected font in the config. All that was needed to do was encode the input two times for both respective font and encode that out for CZcams. If you have any further questions about it you can ask on the forums.
why u upload it on youtube it reduces the frame rate
For a person with an interest in Cave Story you sure didn't know that the original game engine/version ran at 50fps, not 60.
i mean something wrong with youtube it doesn't show a button to switch between 60 and 30 fps view
@@tascavestory Cause again. It was originally a 50fps game. This is the original game. It's 50fps.
@@SpikechiveWhen this high-quality TAS wasn't uploaded,
There was no option but to upload it in 25fps.. due to the limits in 2011.
