On this site, we make perfect movies, and then we surpass them.
Of course, if we can surpass them, they were not perfect in the first place, but who would have known?
When "perfection" is defined as "as fast as possible", it requires some sacrifices. Indeed, this movie sacrifices a lot in the playability of the game. Full of tricks ( tasvideos.org/GameResources/N... ) to pass through walls, tricks to avoid mandatory battles, tricks to pass through enemies relatively unharmed, tricks to acquire weapon refills in little time - there is very little in this movie left that resembles normal playing. Even death is used as a viable playing strategy that saves time. All of the tricks are still performed by the means of mere controller input, even though significant portions of the input were calculated by a computer program.
This movie improves the previous movie ( tasvideos.org/1686M ) by a tremendous 2 minutes and 37.99 seconds, thanks to a new route and better optimisation. Please read the authors' comments ( tasvideos.org/6584S ) for more details.
Of course, upon watching this movie, one does have to question something... is it Mega Man saving the world? Or Dr. Wily trying to save it from absolute destruction?

why did Dr. Wily even bother trying a second time. did he really think he was a match for a timespace-corroding unholy being such as Megaman? Dr. Light created a monster.
At least he can't manipulate time and space on the sequel

To explain what happened in Iceman's stage, that was a bit of memory corruption caused by a buffer overflow.
Too many sprites on-screen for the NES' technical limitations to be able to handle - and the same thing happens in Gutsman, Bombman, and Dr. Wily's stages.
Also, 8:07 - you're pretty much guaranteed to laugh here.
How did he get magnet? Did the iceman glitch cause him to acquire the beam also?

No, its that they will only TAS old games (maybe Wii games but not really)
Fan Sonic Prototype it’s because there’s no tools to tas newer games, not because they only do old games.
For a TAS to be possible, you need to be able to emulate a game first, and then you'll need to be able to apply various tools like game speed changers and frame-by-frame advancement. This is why it's only possible to TAS older games and Wii is nearly cutting edge. Maybe in the near future, a Mario Odyssey TAS or a Dark Souls TAS will be made.

this might just be my favorite TAS video. this is more than just a speedrun, this is absolute chaos. this is "placing Mario blocks in arbitrary places and the game just ends" levels of madness and i love it.

Probably broke the game's memory in Iceman or Gutsman stage to drop it.
@@davidthecommenter Apparently they got the magnet beam from memory corruption in Iceman's level (most likely that stutter on the edge of the ledge at 0:23 - the area around the middle of that ledge is notorious for major glitches), because they had the magnet beam since the beginning of Fireman's level, which was the level before Gutsman.

FC runs are grouped under NES, and the game title is always from the English release when one exists as it tends to be better known. The actual ROM used is always listed in the submission text. The authors knew what they were doing :)

Stuff in Ice Man, Bomb Man, or Guts Man's stages can glitch out the entire game, as shown here. You can pause/unpause at certain places and a random effect will happen, most likely a crash or beating the level early

Can someone explain what the hell is going on here?
Basically, when tons of sprites get into the screen at once, the game lags. This TAS uses this to its advantage my messing up the game’s memory with the lag. This can lead to levels drastically changing and flinging mega man around like a maniac. It makes everything faster in the end.
