I know SpongeBob and Bob the Spongee both have Bob in their name, but how is SpongeBob a ripoff if it takes place in the sea and Bob the Spongee takes place in the real world with humans. Not only that but SpongeBob is a sea sponge, and BtS is a cleaning sponge. Now tell me how that would be a ripoff.
Well of course they would have to make some changes here and there if they were actually ripping him off (I’m not saying they were)
Not that I think that SpongeBob is in any way a rip-off of Bob Spongee, but your point that SpongeBob is a sea sponge is inaccurate, because his design is literally a cleaning sponge. I know that his design being a cleaning sponge is a joke, but just because you put something into an underwater setting doesn't mean it is "different" then something that isn't underwater. In the show he is a sea sponge, but his design is a cleaning sponge lol.
@@wyattschuette1737 Spongebob is designed like a cleaning sponge but he's still portrayed as an underwater sea creature. But Bob Spongee is an actual cleaning sponge, and takes place in the normal above-sea world. Both stories are similar to each other, but not only the setting is what makes them different. Bob Spongee has a wife and a kid, but Spongebob doesn't. And the other characters in Bob Spongee are humans which is really odd. And etc. Just because Bob Spongee and Spongebob are both sponges doesn't mean it's an automatic ripoff. The developer of Bob Spongee could've at least changed the name instead of straight up reporting Spongebob as a ripoff of Spongee.

The Intertidal Zone wasn't publicly released until after the success of SpongeBob SquarePants, so he had no way of knowing at the time of creating his comic.

This reminds me of how some writer tried to sue Disney claiming Frozen stole elements from her autobiography, including there being two sisters, a theme of open/closed doors, a village near a snowy mountain, one sister gets injured and loses her memory, and the sisters know two people named Hans and Kristoff.
But Disney already had this idea before her
So basically someone tried to sue Spongebob because he made up an excuse that Spongebob copied his character and that he was jealous because Spongebob was popular and uhh "Bob the Sponge" wasn't
His creations weren't popular so Stephen wouldn't even know that Bob the Sponge existed
just cause they weren't popular doesn't mean that a bunch of nobodies are the only ones who knew about him

If you had an idea for a show or cartoon or comic, but a bigger corporation had a similar idea, would you file a lawsuit cause you're jealous? Or because they kinds stole your idea? You tell me

When Fortnite added the Floss in Fortnite the BackPack kid decided to sue them because for the sake of him getting money.

Wow, that's the first time I heard about that. It's almost as bogus as the Class of 3000 lawsuit. People tend to have similar ideas, but anyway Hillenburg wins the case because he started his "SpongeBob" comic in 1989 or so. While, the artist started in '92. Interesting to see how Bob Spongee interacts with humans...I'll give it a good read if I can find the comic!
SpongeBob isnt a rip-off. his original name was going to be spongeboy, but they changed it to Bob. and I don't think it had anything to do with Bob spongee. I've never even heard of Bob spongee. And I don't think Stephen Hillenburg was trying to make spongebob a rip-off.

I mean a cartoon that existed before a big name cartoon can sometimes be a coincidence, let’s not forget there were two Dennis from two different countries still going on (as I think), cartoons are being made 24 7, a big name cartoon can come out next year or the next two years. Any cartoon Is any cartoon even if it’s a coincidence there was already a spongebob.
I'm not sure about the US one but the British one is still going strong in a children's comic named "The Beano"

-three young children of the same gender, who are presumably triplets
-opposite gender counterparts (the rowdyruff boys and the chipettes, respectively)
-color scheme of red, blue and green (though with the PPGs it's more like pink blue and green)
-the smart one (blossom and simon) the cute one (bubbles and theo) and the tough one (buttercup and alvin)
-single father
-very much not human but can still do things like a human
But would I say PPG copied Alvin? Goodness, no. Just because similarities exist between two works of art doesn't mean you get to say someone copied you.

In all honesty I think this lawsuit was for complete pettiness, he just wanted money and nobody ever really heard about his comics. And besides SpongeBob was more popular so people would side for it anyways, and honestly much cooler and funnier. So I'm glad SpongeBob won.
