Lyrics:
Well, I'm standing next to a mountain, chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I'm standing next to a mountain, chop it down with the edge of my hand
Pick up all the pieces, make an island, might even raise a little sand
'Cause I'm a voodoo chile, Lord knows I'm a voodoo chile
I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
Give it right back to you one of these days
I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
Give it right back to you the rest of my days
I won't see you again in this world, see you in the next one
Don't be late, don't be late
'Cause I'm a voodoo chile yeah, Lord knows I'm a voodoo chile

The only man who played Jimmy Hendrix better than jimmy Hendrix
When a guitarist walks on stage with a beat up battered and scratched guitar with his initials on it. You know he,s the real deal
He couldn’t shine Gary moore’s shoes check out his version
@@jackmercer4803go away
@@jackmercer4803 honestly crazy statement, why not say you like Gary Moore's version more, go listen to it. Instead you decide to disrespect a dead man while still sounding stupid. Check yourself weirdo
Austin City Limits 1983. This concert turned me on to music, it absolutely blew my 11yo mind....
Had a chance to see him in Wichita Falls in '86 at a free concert. Didnt go. You shouldn't have regrets in life but man.......
SRV's sound live was utterly beyond belief.
No one played the guitar at full on every moment of his guitar life.
He is like a prize fighter, he just keeps hitting you under you give in. No one on earth ever played a guitar like him.
Hendrix is the true Guitar God. Just another copy of Hendrix.
@@lainaniedbalski2558 ~ Hendrix was great for sure, but more for his writing. His play was sloppy.
God I miss this Man!! Wish he were still here. This World is a lesser place with him gone.
I was at his grave last summer 2022 in Laureland Cemetery. Just a white rose laying on the bronze cover. His mom and dad just behind his grave. No one araound. Just a breeze blowing in the trees. Brought a tear to my eye. SRV was the best blues artist there ever was.
I would have killed to see that. :)
Bruh likes SRV
He is not dead, he lives in our hearts forever! FACTS!
Covering Hendrix takes some balls to begin with. Stevie grabs the tune by the horns and transmutes it through his Texas blues soul and spits out a flaming brew that Jimi would have given a standing ovation. He owns the damn thing, while still paying tribute to the Master, JH. Deep bow.
Beautifully said.
So true, he had the reverence and the guts to play this song and OWN it.
Well said sir
There are really no words to describe SRV. He's at the spiritual level.. unbelievable!
Music stars channel the supernatural. It appears that Demons are running out of good music. I do like some of SCORPIONS new songs, Unleash The Beast (about Megalodons), Peace Maker, When Tomorrow Comes, Shoot For Your Heart, Shining Of Your Soul, Out Go The Lights, Gas In The Tank & Rock Believer are the best they have done since their album Unbreakable.
Love you forever brother
He just might be the best there ever was.
I agree
Had the precious moment of seeing him in Pittsburgh with Jeffery Beck. I will never forget it
I've been playing for well over 20yrs. I've never seen anyone attack the guitar like SRV. He's plays with such force, it's borderline violence, but there's an elegance to it at the same time. It's elegant violence fueled by soulful passion and it's never been replicated, nor will it ever. Not in my lifetime anyway.
There is an invisible cord, which connects SRV's soul to that guitar.
Go ahead and argue, it won't make a difference. SRV is the greatest guitarist of All time.
Yep
After Hendrix of course
eric clapton disagrees. clapton once said hendrix was the best for one reason: the guy never even practiced
@@exandious867he was sloppy at times because of that but he had insane writing skills. Srv is a different beast and they all have different seats in the history of guitar in my opinion, there’s no need to compare them lol
@@eee-hi1kl i didnt eric clapton did lol
IMHO, the only one capable to play it better than Jimmy himself.
Jimi
He plays like he built the dam thing, everyone who plays should study SRV the best.
YOU BET. !!! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVIE RAY VAUGHN WITH THAT JIMI HENDRIX SPIRIT ON ANY STAGE. NOT IN MY LIFETIME
Funny story. I was driving past Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant one early morning, about 2:00 AM, when I picked up Public Radio out of CMU. It was Stevie Ray kickin' out Voodoo Chile, which I really dig. When the song ended, the DJ came on and said, in a kinda hushed-reverant voice, "That was Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan, playing his rendition of the Jimi Hendrix classic (wait for it), Voodoo...CHILI !!! I almost pissed myself laughing! I got to thinking, Voodoo Chili, I gotta try me some of that!
Eric Clapton performed with SRV in his last concert. Here's what he had to say about it. "The worst thing for me was that Stevie Ray had been sober for three years and was at his peak. When he played that night, he had all of us standing mere with our jaws dropped. I mean, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable."
😎💘
🖤👌🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
32 years ago yesterday (27th August) SRV left us💙🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤he will NEVER be forgotten
They say only the good die young in his case it would greatest picker to ever pick the blues
@@Followerofthekingofkings1969 Your not wrong there.
Eric is 77 now I believe........the old GOAT not, still good though😊but SRV will always be the best there ever was or ever will be.
Back in the early '80s, I was creating a glass art project in a bar on 6th street. A fellow walked in and asked to speak to the manager so we pointed towards the backroom. The manager came out and the fellow asked if he could come in with his troop and jam on a weekend night. The manager asked him what he played and the fellow asked if he could show him.
After a twenty/thirty minute set up, the fellow opened up with 'look at little sister' followed by voodoo child and my jaw dropped open.
The fellow introduced himself as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble.
The manager wanted him to start that very night and after that, it was standing room only...all the way outside of the bar.
This was before he cut his first album, and I had the honor of being able to hear what he could do before he proved it to the world.
Amazeballs
Fy fan
Wow ! what a story, Fancy that, SRV in off the street, doing a free jam session with his band.
Yes I see it scairt me in to pubic growth and public office
@Robert Smith, that’s one helluva chance encounter. I saw him at the Rome Inn before he was unleashed onto the world. I’ve always felt like I’m in a special club, lol.
He has all of Jimi's raw emotion and soul, but never, ever gets a note wrong. He is simply in a class by himself. What a legend and sorely missed.
.....e
A tip of the hat to all the creativity and passion Hendricks unleashed, executed with precision!
He took Jimi's vision and raw emotion and refined it into the purest gold. It can be improved upon no more...
@@carlwilliams6977 Exactly how I see it. He took Jimis visions for these tunes and brought them to their ultimate forms. Jimi would be proud. They cant get any better.
@@carlwilliams6977 there is no tip, he showed what Jimi was trying to express and than amplified to next level!
it is like watching a master painter. You can't believe what is on the canvas. He had a spirit running threw his hands.
beautifully put 🤘
SRV was too incredible, so hard to accept he is gone now over 30 yrs.
How the hell could God have taken Stevie Ray Vaughan away from us I still don't unerstand..I guess God needed him more. RIP Stevie!
I love his voice. Nobody talks about that. A very soulful voice.
That's really true. A blues voice for sure.
Awesome pipes but I prefer Jimi's voice on this particular song
Or much about Double Trouble. 2 guys had to hold the back side together while Stevie shined.
I agree, but there is a bit of a distraction from singing..
Well put. Both he and Hendrix were notoriously shy about their vocal talent. Undeserved, IMO. Both had beautiful voices perfectly suited to the music at hand.
That last 47 seconds was him saying hello to Mr Hendrix... SRV is a God
That is basically the very pinnacle of electric guitar playing that has ever been or ever will be. The literal high water mark.
Oh My god . What would Stevie be doing today in 2024 ? I mean he was already above most . ( in my opinion ) I listen to him very often . I have a favorite of his but probably not a favorite of other's . But , he most definitely , a guitar god
.
For those who play guitar know how difficult is to tune into that place where your feeling flows to your fingers, whithout thinking of boxes and scales and what am I gonna play now so I dont repeat myself, and do all this surfing the band rhythum, the song pace and story, the right notes at the right moment played with the right feeling .....your feeling....leaving the audience with dropped jaw. Believe me, this is another level, you feel he is not thinking about the neck, his fingers know where the notes are, they only translate his feeling. Stevie did this so so easily that we know we are in the presence of greatness. After 30 years, I hear this and still shake my head like .....how is this possible?....to play like this.....
Look at all these people not moving at all. They’re literally frozen. Stevie deserved a better crowd !!!
A lot of these weekly Tv broadcast concerts were suppose to be tame. All about the artist.
I would have loved to have witnessed this, it was before mobiles became essential, but so glad this was video'd, I can watch it daily and I do 🇬🇧🖤💙
Look up what reverence means
the best guitarist who has ever walked on this planet imo, and his legendary guitar, the most beautiful thing I've ever seen ❤️🤘🏻🔥
My favorite musician ever was Jimi and the closest I've ever seen or heard was from Stevie...I'm so sad both are gone.
An all time favourite from the best to ever grace this planet.
He inspired me to really learn to play.
Gone, but never forgotten!
SRV played the guitar like it owed him money
Damn, i laughed so hard reading this
No Life Shaq wants his line back
SRV called Stevie everything but white. That performance was glorious !
Lenny liked it rough ;)
So fucking unfair he had to go in a plane crash.
A dozen or two dozen years from now, this will still be so incredible to watch and listen to. Love you and miss you SRV...
Those group of what ever had no clue how to gauge Stevie Ray Vaughn that night. Teeeheeet!!!
SRV is the best guitarist their is and that is all.
😢 I still cry thinking of the day he died
Best ever. I feel blessed to have seen his magic live.
Me too ❤️
Still smoke'n in 2023....Good gawd man🔥🔥🔥🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
The scarf was made of asbestos so it dont burst into flames ever time Stevie hits it. 😁😁
Saw him six weeks before he died. Birthday present from my son for 2nd year of sobriety!
Big difference in somebody just playing a song and SRV who the music just flows out of. Will never be replaced.
His live performances are better then any concert I’ve seen, I still can’t believe the guitar change in look at little sister
If he wanted to, HE COULD PLAY GUITAR WITH HIS FEET ,. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT
Simply the best guitarist of all time. Only a fool would disagree.
"Angus Young" of AC🔥DC * Said Quote: Stevie Ray & Hendrix & Chuck Berry Were His "Idols Influences" Hell of a COMPLIMENT Coming from him 👌🔥😎
Only a fool insults Hendrix in order to compliment another guitarist. F u? Mhm
They were double trouble but SRV was a triple threat! R.I.P goat
THE GREATEST!!!
"I'm so fast; I hit the light switch last night and I was in the bed before the room got dark..."
SRV4LIFE🤙🇺🇸
Eric gales and Derek Trucks are absolute masters and are right up there with Steve
Still listening March 2022 I too am a fellow texan. Knew SRV back in the day in Austin. Miss him so. PLAY ON MY FRIEND. FOREVER
When SRV was baby very guitar ran to his crib saying play me. Legend.
Jimi Hendrix was a guitar virtuoso and a musical genius. SRV was a miracle of nature.
I've probably watched this video 900 times in the past 20 years. This is absolutely mind blowing to me. If you notice at 5 minutes in as hes playing he realizes his small E is out so at around 5:31 as he's holding that note he reaches to the headstock with the pic hand to tune it up a bit. Absolutely amazing. Stevie was so intouch with anything he played. RIP Stevie you are the best
3:34 One of the smoothest, grooviest licks I will ever hear.
I always wanted to play guitar then I heard Stevie Ray and said never mind
This was it. Man stopped evolving right here. We will never be better than this.
there is no reason to keep improving
Just like Robert Johnson, Stevie sold his soul, and we got his unbelievable and unmatched greatness.
Stevie in this performance is like "I want to show you all what a Stratocaster sounds like"
He sure did, and some😊
SRV career was cut short. He was and IS by far the best guitarist of all time. It was a mere appendage of his body. Like a an arm or leg...his guitar spoke emotions and feelings that he could not put into words. He could close his eyes and the rhythm of life pours out from every strum of his hand. He just wanted to play and share himself. We miss you Stevie You are a son of Zeus. You are a demi god of the guitar. You will live beyond the decades of this generation. Thank you
He was SO on that night. Imagine being in the audience. Would have been mind-blowing.
Man Tommy Shannon is just cruising with that Fender Bass, sounds bad ass
1:55-2:25. 2:35-245
Good lord ... If this doesn't make you come alive your soul is dead! Fucking awesome!!!!
For me, to this date, his live performances remain unmatched. Words can not convey the energy he projected while on stage, it just poured out of him. Very grateful to have seen him in small places in the Texas Flood days.
I saw him live at a spectacular venue in Victoria Australia, unforgettable, you forget that there's only three people on stage.
Couldn't agree more with you. His live shows were incredible to witness.
He really was the best.
Mind Boggling skill....best gutarist of the 20th C....BAR None including Hendrix who was very good, but never on his best day this good.
He must be from another planet because no one else can play like this. There will never be another Stevie. Planet Voodoo
I just can't believe people sitting there with that "polite" applause. SVR tearing it the hell up!!!
Feel ya!
Theyre in a tv studio, cameras moving around everywhere
They may have been too stunned to know what else to do! This performance is incredible!
Who's watching this Christmas holidays 2022?
I was lucky to have seen him 12 times. He is incredible every time everybody else has pale in comparison.
Successor 123 said what needed to be said. The best of the best we’re in awe. none ever better ever by anyone
Like Hendrix Stevie's guitar is an extension of his personality.... sorely missed.
Currently taking communion at the altar of Texas blues
BEST GUITAR PLAYER IN THE WORLD . WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER
A guitar can't sound better than this.
Lets hear someone else playing voodoo child like this? They dont exist and they never will
Still listening Stevie in 2023..........GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN........
Gold. I have this show on DVD and have watched it 100 times.
And apparently tears just now. Damnit!
He was a guitar genius. I don’t know if the people in that audience stil realize how lucky they are.
Just watching Stevie Ray play it makes my hands cramp up...
GOD I MISS HIM.
One of the few songs out there that deserves to go to 11.....
Man is that part of him, you don't even need any other instruments he just goe,'s and F I N. Jam's the wall's down.🎸🎸🥶👍😬🦊🏁🎰🐕🦜✌️☘️☘️ Come on now all you Listener's let me get a little bit of your facilities Rock @ Roll only how Vaughan can holler back!!!!!
SRV, Prince, Hendrix!❤❤
Technically insane lick after lick , guy was absolutely relentless in his execution, nonstop shredding and just ridiculous chops. What an absolutely incredible player. Wish he was still around, a shame.
Yes he's really and truly missed. I cannot believe this mans talent WOW!!!!
Hendrix may have changed the way people played, but other guys took it up another stage. But Hendrix, Clapton etc likewise copied Albert & BB King, its a simple progression in life. Personally I think this SRV is far superior to JH also Gary Moore another fabulous player. I've never liked watching the showmanship that JH did, it's irritating. It's all a matter of taste I can't stand Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher, Page is OK but doesn't set me on fire or Hallen Vai and Satriani. Again just a matter of opinion. Jack, Gary Moore's son is a great player, love Clapton , Walter Trout. So many different guys out there to suit different tastes.
With 13/ 56 strings.....
I have watched/listened to countless hours of Stevie Ray live, and I cannot recall ONE instance where he obviously made a mistake. He MAY have made some in those performances but they were never obvious... and I'm a guitarist! His execution is one thing I think a lot of people overlook. He was ALWAYS spot-on!
Well said!
Dare I say he plays this better than Hendrix? Looks like he's in 2nd gear here he's making it look that easy. Makes you want to give up as you'll never be as good as this
This is definitely an outstanding version of it and a go to song when I need to hear it, but better than the Hendrix version of VC?!? I don't think so.
This is beyond incredible. Hendrix was beyond the beyond.
Better than the Man himself!!! This Guy.. he's a fuckin legend xxx
And I meant the main manbtw
Pretty jaw dropping. All you guitarists might as well call it quits.
There will never ever be anybody that plays like that, EVER
Well technically there are many people who can play but there's no such melody and feels in playing like it is when Hendrix and srv played
One of the most singularly great performances in human history.
Agreed!
I once heard it said Edward Van Halen had the fire of the streets in his fingers. I think Steve Vaughn had the soul of the Univers in his.
SRV played music because he couldn’t not play music. ❤
Why do small minds keep coming on here and feel the need to educate everyone on what the name of the song is? Who really cares. Just listen to the genius at work and leave it at that.
Respect a master of his craft.
i sometimes wonder how hendrix and stevie are getting along in the hereafter. i mean could you imagine the jam sessions those two could have if they are getting along?
I keep telling Hendrix enthusiasts that Stevie surpassed the original in both recorded and live performances IMO. I always refer people to this very performance. It's hard to argue with.
If ever there was a 1 man band ... SRV was it.
It's incomprehensible how good this performance is.

He should have delegated the vocals to a competent singer and stuck with guitar - management in America was always an achilles.
@@cahillgreg I respectfully disagree, in my opinion Stevie's vocals here is giving a certain vibe to the song, unique and different. I even enjoy the inaudible and arguably mistaken* parts, I think this is actually what lies in the core of live music.
@@cahillgreg Absolutely have to respectfully disagree also. I saw him multiple times, the first being in 1984, it was a jaw dropping performance. In addition to pouring the energy out through that guitar like he did, the vocals conveyed that energy also. Almost 40 years later, his live performances, energy delivery and stage presence remain a very high bar to reach for. In my very humble opinion, his voice was a compliment to how he played. As enjoyable as these video clips are, they simply can not do justice to the raw energy pouring out of that man on stage during a performance like this.
There are guitarist's that are so f'ing good they either inspire you to pick up your guitar and practice your heart out or are so talented that they make you want to throw your guitar down and say "screw this"....SRV makes me want to do both! LOL RIP!
Bingo lol
