Honda Firestorm Project - Part 1

  • This is a 2002 Honda VTR1000F Firestorm. The owner had big plans for it a few years ago so gave it to a mechanic who gave up half way. So the bike sat in his storage for around 5 years in a disassembled state. The time has come to do something with it. This is not a full restoration, the goal for this part 1 video is to fix all the problems, add a few trick bits (sprockets, braided lines, reservoirs, etc) and get it road worthy again. The customer wanted to actually enjoy the bike before we go crazy with it in Part 2. Lots of custom performance mods to come. Enjoy

    Thanks so much mate. I’ve always been in awe of aircraft techs. I couldn’t do it.
    I’m just putting the finishing touches on a video of a Fireblade full rebuild. I think you’ll appreciate it. I really appreciate your subscription

      I did study human anatomy and physiology at uni, so I can see some similarities between a body and an engine. However, i don't believe my motor composite workshop insurance covers medical malpractice.

      thanks Glock!! i never understood why different regions adopt different model names for vehicles. same bike would only appeal to a different region if it's called something else? kind of makes me feel like bike builders are led by a marketing team.

    I have enjoyed my VTR’s great torque and beautiful song for many years. She is now equipped with superbike bars for more comfortable long distance rides (there are a lot of miles here in Canada and the States :) she should get me into my eighties !

    Fantastic video, I broke my ankles getting to the subscribe button. Question, have you done a deeper dive video on swapping in the manual cam chain tensioners? I have not seen it done that way, but it looks significantly easier than everything else I have seen for those .

    • @flywheelsmotorcycles
      @flywheelsmotorcycles  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Thanks Jeremy. The only reason they went on is because the customer supplied them and requested the installation. I'm not a huge fan of manual chain tensioners. They are high maintenance and can cause significant damage if installed or adjusted incorrectly. The standard automatic tensioners are actually easier to install but sometimes they don't apply enough pressure. So there are good points and bad points for both

    Wonderful work. Though with parts and your attention to detail must be rather pricey. I have just bought a 1998 VTR1000F for £1500 with the mct conversion with 23k miles. Everything seems fine, so far.😀

    Great job, I think I’ve done the same on my 04 VTR. I like the idea of the tapered head bearings but have found spacing to be a problem. Your disassembly of the carbs was also good. I started but decided to hold off till warmer weather. Luckily mines been in a dry garage for its entire life!

    SO I just started on a Honda VTR engine rebuild as well, unfortunetly things didnt startw ell for me, and parts seems to be an issue. I just bought another engine, hopefully its fine, I couldnt test it first as it is 1500km away from me.

      Congrats mate. They’re a great bike. Engines pretty decent to work on. Good idea to get a donor engine just make sure the used bits are in spec. Parts are a big problem globally at the moment. I can’t see it getting any better. Just means we spend more time hunting on the internet. Good luck buddy
