  • In this video I finally get my $1000 2003 Honda 996 Superhawk (VTR1000F) out to stretch her legs! I also gave some updates on more work I had to do on this bike, buying cheap motorcycles isn't always easy, but it is so worth it!

    Nice smooth riding on a remarkably traffic free day. I had a firestorm and this is giving goose bumps galore!

      @@markgreene6349 I never tried that. You could look up the axle, spacer, and bearings to see if they are the same.

    Seems to me that the engine braking on the Superhawk makes it a perfect fit for the Dragon. I noticed that nobody passed you....Hehehe

    I also own a VTR. I find it's a bike which responds very well to counter steering. On a road like this you get to try a lot of different techniques! In this video, as the miles wore on, I noticed the rider became more and more "dialled in" to how the bike handles and how late he could dive into a corner etc etc.

    Those blue VTRs are definitely faster. The previous owner of my one fitted cheap pattern head gaskets after one of the ACCTs let go and it blew almost immediately. You don't have to spend long looking at the genuine Honda ones to see why they cost more, but it's money worth spending. Buy cheap, buy twice, they say. And they're right. Nice road, too.

    I've got a question for you Superhawkers. I have a '98, and I absolutely love everything about the bike, however, the handlebars absolutely kill my hands. It puts so much of my upper body weight on the heels of my hands, its actually painful. There are lots of options for installing different bars, risers, etc, but in order to change the position enough to make them comfortable, the fairing either has to be removed or cut. I really don't want to cut it, as the Honda plastics are no longer made. The other option would be to remove the fairing, but this bike is funky looking as hell without the fairing. Though about polishing everything under the fairing, but I would still have to install another headlight assembly. There really is no easy solution. Do any of you have any thoughts on this subject?

      I have the problem unconsciously putting too much weight on my hands when there is no need. Not sure if it's same for you. For me it helps trying to loosen my hands more often and sitting up straight when realizing.

      Get wider clipons. The factory clipons are on the narrow side. That's the main reason for discomfort. You can buy after market clipons which are roughly 1 inch wider on both sides. They make the world of difference, and no fitment issues at all.

    • @jamesbottger5894
      @jamesbottger5894 Před 10 měsíci

      I didn’t know it was possible, but I think my body is somewhat acclimating to the riding position. It doesn’t seem quite as bad as before, still not Gold Wing comfort, but I think I can live with it…

      You can add some shims (washers) at the mirror mounts for added clearance to the fairing, or you could carefully tweak the fairing mount arms to do the same thing.

    But Honda's okay with it 30000 mile the timing chains go out and your motor blows up no recall Hondas perfectly okay with it... it literally makes me sick I saved up so I could ride this year and lasted me one day it sounded perfect it ran perfect just change the oil on my way to the mountains on Cloud9 and all the sudden clack clack clack clack at 30 miles an hour...... and then as I start doing research oh yeah these bikes only last till 30,000 miles if you don't change the timing chain tensioner I'll keep bringing it up until Honda gets ahold of me
