Make a lot of money doing this everyday??? For WHO??? I've been riding bikes for more than 50 years and I've put a LOT of miles on them -- and NEVER have I ever needed to overhaul the headset. Nor have my friends ever needed this. Sorry, I don't think a bike mechanic could "make a lot of money" doing this.
It’s hard to believe that in 50 years you’ve never needed new bearings in a headset on any of your bikes. Getting new bearings isn’t some weird luxury, it’s pretty common maintenance. Something else that is common is people who don’t maintain their bikes properly.
@@WasabiBunny Well, I guess it just depends on the facts, doesn't it? Facts like how much you ride, where you ride and how long you own your bikes might have something to do with it, ya think? People who don't maintain their bikes properly may be common, but since nobody could possibly know anything about their bikes or how they ride, they can't be identified by reading CZcams posts. People who make foolish assumptions about other people in their CZcams posts are, however, really easy to identify.
@@johnsimion2893 Assuming that because you haven’t ever done something means no one else needs to do it either is quite foolish. It’s a fair assumption that someone who reacts with outrage to the suggestion their headset bearings might need replacing occasionally is either not maintaining their bikes correctly or doesn’t appreciate what work is being done to them. That’s my last word, have a good one.
@@WasabiBunny Wow. Bought an old Schwinn Traveler and the steerer tube bearings went out, but it was almost 40 yrs old. Unless you're going to Cane Creek bearings to save weight, I've never changed these bearings, and I ride 3,000 miles a year.
Good work but disgraceful that this is required on premium bike like a Canyon. And if the rider is going to ride slammed position, why not cut off the excess steerer tube.
This stem height is probably new to them, so it does take some time to adapt. If a much longer expander plug was used, then it's not much of a problem, which only leaves that chimney of excess steerer tube.
All bikes need service no matter how fancy. Depends on how and when/where you've ridden them. But judging from the sound from this headset it might have been staged to prove a point with this video.
Also, don't degrease your drive train every week like so many people on CZcams say to. That will ruin your chain faster than rust. Only do it when it's filthy.

Why not just change the bearings? I did that on my bike, cost next to nothing. Cant remember the price, but around $50 or so.
