NEW Virtuoso RIFLE Open World Build

- Now that we have had the 2nd major update of the current Secrets of the Obscure expansion, we get to play with new weapons on all 9 professions. Mesmers gained access to the Rifle, which is primarily a support weapon, while still packing a punch.
Journey and Inspiring Imagery are enough to take out most regular enemies, and the Phantasmal Sharpshooter decimates higher health targets, while keeping them crowd controlled.
Originally, I planned on making a Mirage build, but the Ambush attack was rather disappointing in actual open world scenarios. Chronomancers have a rather interesting gimmick in that they can (theoretically) spawn 6 Phantasms relatively quickly, but waiting for their cooldown, as well as Continiuum Shift, made for a rather bland experience.
That leaves us with Virtuoso, which synergises extremely well, due to the fact that their clones aren't reliant on enemies staying alive for extended durations of time. Instead, we can use our rifle skills to swiftly take care of enemies, and while waiting for those to recharge, we can use our Bladesongs. Mesmers have some of the best utility skills in the entire game, and a combination of signets, damaging abilities, and blink is all you need to thrive in the open world.

I tried making it work with condi virtu for their incredible heal on bleed, but fell short. As a build that explodes basic enemies, it does feel rather satisfying though :)

Didn't think Mesmer-Rifle could slap that way. Nice to see. I rather use it to slap people with green numbers in convergences xD
The damage output from rifle 2+3 surprised me, honestly. I've tried it in a few metas, and seeing the green numbers pop up does feel nice.
Hey, how do you up keep so much boons?:) and how do you think about Chrono or Mirage for Power Rifle gameplay?
I'm using (and would recommend) Jade Bot Protocols, which are available in EoD. I mentioned a way to stack them really fast in this guide: czcams.com/video/oeEr0wdHmbU/video.html (timestamp will take you to the right spot).
I tried mirage for the ambush attack. Despite the numbers looking high enough, it felt like the damage wasn't there. If they bump up those, it'd be a fun weapon for them. There's a fun gimmick with chrono: you can continuum shift and spawn 3 sharpshooters (the third one by squeezing in signet of the ether), end shift and spawn 3 more. But then you're stuck waiting for their cooldown. Couple that with Chronophantasma, and you have an army of sharpshooters. But waiting for the cooldown felt unpleasant to me.
Great! was wondering how well this would do for open world stuff. Any thoughts on Rev Secpter in open world?
If all goes well, I'll have a revenant scepter build up Thursday. Worst case on Friday 😄
I've been enjoying heal chrono alot with rifle, but when it comes to open world my go-to playstyle is power virtu with dagger and focus/sword. Do you think rifle has a compelling reason to take it over dagger/offhand or GS?
It's hard to give up dagger for anything, in my opinion and Chrono has a great power build with sword. So I'm not inclined to recommend any changes to those to include rifle, but rather picking up rifle whenever you want to try something new or want some variety. I do agree that as a healer, it's an amazing weapon to use!
Good job , is it viable in wvw? do you have any builds for mesmer wvw?
I haven't been playing wvw a lot lately, except for a bit on my thief w/ the new axe. I would honestly need to test it out.

In the 'Special Forces Training Area', with the extreme environmental damage, a full minstrels chrono boon heals can keep themselves alive using just rifle skills. Nothing else. Shatters and utility are just cake.
I'm wondering if a heal virt build becomes viable with the rifle... With the blades not disappearing when enemies die, that could work for open world.
Ooh, that might be something interesting to experiment and see if there's a middle ground between healing and damage. Sort of an immortal build would be cool
