  • Hello guys, today we're watching Christopher Nolan's masterpiece Inception, about a mutli-layered heist, dreams, dreams within dreams, the human subconscious, guilt and the tragic story of a love that went too far.

What's most incredible is how the entire movie is packed with lore and action, yet the most impactful and incredible is the smallest thing in the end, making the entire movie just flash before your eyes in a millisecond when the screen goes black. *SNAP* just like that, and it leaves everyone questioning what it all means.
Gives me a tear every time I watch it, not because I'm sad but because how beautifully composed everything is. A true masterpiece!

The third level (the "snowy" one) is actually Eames's dream, but they TOLD Fischer it was his so his own subconscious would behave the way they want it to.

If you think inception ends when the movie ends, well, Nolan pulled the greatest inception: it was on us, the audience, with that sudden cut to black ending not knowing if the top was going to fall or not. It keeps us talking about it. hahaha

The architect/ maze-builder's name is Ariadne. That went right over my head the first time I watched this film.

That score gives me sirious full body chills every time. Watched it in the theater twice and would love to see it on the big screen again.

100% agree, especially the climax scores Hans Zimmer does in Nolan movies are always so epic and on point.
And they fit Nolans style of filmmaking perfectly.

Nolan, Villeneuve, Tarantino...all directors who pretty much have a "perfect" track record for me. You should definitely watch (over time) all of their movies.

To explain “who’s dream are they in?” There’s a SUBJECT that is the one who’s mind the DREAMERS are trying to extract information from, or implant an idea in, who is the most important person in the dream as one of the DREAMERS sharing the dream, and populates the dream with their subconscious projections, though any DREAMER sharing the dream can bring their subconscious projections in. There’s an ARCHITECT that designs the levels of the dream and teaches them to the DREAMERS that will be involved in the extraction/inception dream on the SUBJECT. The ARCHITECT has a firm grasp on how to manipulate the “reality” of the dream in order to create the world of the dream. In each level, REALITY, DREAM LEVEL 1, DREAM LEVEL 2, etc, there is a MINDER that stays “awake” on their level, and monitors the DREAMERS who are dreaming in the next level’s MINDER’s mind. In REALITY, the real world, that MINDER is not part of the dream, they just monitor the DREAMER’s and play the music to the DREAM LEVEL 1 MINDER’s ears 20 reality seconds before the dream ends, or when a kick has been planned, to let the DREAMERS know the dream is ending, or kick is coming. Time moves faster in each level depending on if compounds are used, and that has to be kept in mind when planning kicks. 20 REALITY seconds, or 20 DREAM LEVEL 1, 2, etc seconds, can be anywhere from a few minutes to hours in the dream levels. In DL 1, the DREAMERS experience the dream in the mind of the DL1 MINDER. If they enter a DREAM LEVEL 2, the DL1 MINDER stays “awake” in DL1, and monitors the dreamers that are in DL2, and protects them from the SUBJECT’s projections in DL1, or anyone else’s for that matter. One dreamer in DL2 will be DL2 MINDER, and the DREAMERS in DL2 experience DL2 in the DL2 MINDER’s mind. If there’s DL3, that level will have a MINDER etc.
In the big dream, REALITY was the plane with the Flight Attendant as MINDER. In DL1, the RAINY CITY, Yusef was DL1 MINDER, and the kick was intended to be when the van broke through the bridge and started falling, but that was too early and they missed it, so the impact with the water was kick #2. In DL2, the HOTEL, Arthur was DL2 MINDER, and the kick was going to be blowing up the room floor, but lack of gravity made him have to improvise the elevator. In DL3, the SNOWY HOSPITAL, Eames was DL3 MINDER, and the kick was blowing up the hospital. In DL4, LIMBO, there was no MINDER. Eames acted as MINDER for Cobb, Ariadne, and Fischer while they were in LIMBO, and Ariadne’s and Fischer’s kick was falling from the high rise. Cobb stayed in LIMBO and found Saito and convinced him to shoot himself to wake from LIMBO, as did Cobb, who both awakened to REALITY on the PLANE when the sedative wore off, but whether Cobb awoke to REALITY or not, or whether any of it was ever REALITY, depends on if the viewer saw enough wobble in the totem a second before black screen and title.

Inception is a wonderful film so it's always fun seeing people's reactions to it. Please do react to his other films! I'm hoping for Interstellar next, or maybe Dunkirk.

Just a few chords of this film’s score - mainly that of ‘Time’ - pull me right back to the theatre full of emotion.
Back in 2009-2010, sheer coincidence or synchronicity, Rammstein released a song Frühling in Paris which had the refrain “oh non rien de rien, oh non je regrette rien”.
This line is from an old Edith Piaf song - the very same that Inception uses for the crew’s wake-up call - that song being temporally stretched into Hans Zimmer’s brassy score deeper and deeper in the dream levels.

Meta movie like Memento and The Prestige. All characters play a role similar to film production. The audience is Fisher. the Theater or Tv is the dream device. DiCaprio vaguely looks like a younger Nolan. Cobb is the director. Eames is the actor. Ariadne is set designer. Arthur producer. Nolan is a big fan of James Bond Stanley Kubrick and Michael Mann. The snow level is based on James Bond, the Hotel is based on The Shinning, The first level is based on movie Heat with a street shoot-out in downtown LA. Feeding info to the projections and the mark is similar to script exposition for the audience. Heist movies have lots of exposition for explaining the job so a heist film is perfect for incepting the audience with the directors exposition. Cutting away from the spinning top is placing an idea in the audience's mind.

Ok I gotta be that guy.... I'm gonna ruin it though, but here goes. At the end, Nolan's original intent was a happy ending. I was very lucky to have seen it's premier. In that cut, at the very end when the screen is about to fade to black, the top rattles very very slightly, then it cut to black, followed by the sound of the top rattling then falling. I've heard other people say that the version I saw was also played on opening night when it opened in theaters across the country. I recall distinctly how blown away we were, particularly during the final quarter of the movie, and we wanted to know EVERYTHING, and so, didn't budge when it ended while focused AF trying to catch it all. When I saw it on DVD for the first time, I was like, wtf? when they cut to black without showing the top kinda shake slightly and when I didn't hear the top fall I rewound it 3 times to make sure the sound was not there. But I swear I've never seen anyone mention it online. But I saw and heard it happen.

The problem with ambiguous endings is that people think that the point is to try to find out the answer. When in reality, the fact that there _isn't_ an answer _is_ the point.

You should see Predestination (2014) I think of these 2 movies together in that they both make you think and they came out around the same time... It is a time travel movie won't say more.... Another good one is Sourcecode

@@chimmysyellowhoodie7885 It's another great Nolan movie, liked it quite a lot, especially because of the dynamic of the rivalry between Borden and Angier.
Also a great twist which I definitely did not see coming.
