This is one of those movies that is almost spoiler-proof. It's such a complex plot that knowing how the movie ends means nothing unless you watch the whole movie through in order to understand how the movie got there.
I second this
It's also one of those movies that doesn't afford you a bathroom break. There's so much going on and so much info in each scene that you risk missing crucial details. That also means that the movie almost demands multiple viewings because you end up catching new details on each subsequent viewing.
Nolan's answer is: its subject to interpretation. You can't definitively say he's dreaming or its reality. The cut to black was Nolan incepting the audience. He planted an idea in audiences mind that this reality MIGHT not be real by cutting to black when it looked like the top might topple over.
The wedding band and details I think are theories Nolan won't answer but i think they might have been flaws that you can use as evidence that it truly is reality but that wasn't Nolan's intention. The ambiguity of the ending and Nolan actually taking the definition of Inception and executing it on the last shot on the audience is thematically one of the most brilliant cinematic endings ever. The discussion and discourse strengthens the movie.
Nolan's main point: Cobb doesn't care if its real or not he chose to not look at the top and go look at his kids. Implying he chose his own reality.
I know it's up to interpretation, but I think that Cobb was awake at the end of the film. In every other scene where he saw his kids, he didn't see their faces, but in the final scene he actually sees their faces, & they are wearing slightly different clothes compared to previous scenes. Additionally, someone once pointed out how Cobb actually has 2 ways to see if he's awake or not-his top & his wedding ring-& they explained that if you watch him he'll check his wedding ring to know when he's awake.
Yea the wedding ring was Cobb's real totem the entire time. The spinning top was his wife's. The biggest insurance you could have in this game is a totem that doesn't exist in the real world.
the whole point of the ending is that it doesn't matter if it's a dream or not. Cobb doesn't check because he has chosen his reality.
Interstellar, The Prestige, The Dark Knight series, Memento, Dunkirk. All fire
Another AMAZING Leonardo DiCaprio movie is Catch Me if You Can. It's the true story of one of the most notorious FBI criminals of all time who led them on a Multi-year, multi-national chase.
Technically, Cobb's top never fell over. It wobbled and seemed to be about to fall...but we didn't SEE it fall. You keep telling yourself what you KNOW, but what do you BELIEVE? I think that's the point of the whole movie and the ending. Cobb looked away from the top to see his children's faces. He could have verified whether or not the top fell first, but he decided to believe in his reality, because he wanted it to be real. All this time he has been paranoid of confusing between what is real and what is a dream. This time he accepted it. That's the conclusion of his arc, he is finally able to trust his gut, without doubt.
Cobb has his own Totem! In his dreams he still wears his wedding ring, in reality he has stopped wearing it since Mal's death.
Also, because of the way Mal's works it becomes kind of useless when Cobb explains it to others.
It's basically inferred that you can manifest things into the dream by thinking about them. ("You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling")
So, for example, now that Ariadne knows that when the Top falls Cobb will think he's in reality, if they were in a dream together Ariadne would be able to manipulate the top to fall by thinking of it.
That's how Mal decides Limbo was her reality, and how Cobb convinces her it's not real. Mal chose to manifest her top falling while in Limbo and then locked it away in her subconscious thus, making her believe it was real. When Cobb broke into her subconscious and manifested the top spinning non-stop and then locked it back in her subconscious it caused her to always believe she was dreaming, even after she woke up.
I think Cobb uses Mal's as, obviously an example to describe to others but, also as a sort of double-check. He will spin it trying to mainfest the non-stop spinning but, if he's unable to (and his other Totem also indicates the same) then he knows he's in reality.
EDIT: It could also be a sort of diversion tactic. If everyone see's Cobb using the top after the dream they'll assume it's his totem. Thus keeping his real totem a secret.
Well, pretty close, however it is not IF the top will fall, but HOW the top will fall that is a tell for if it is reality or not. The top spinning indefinitely is just a metaphor for knowing it isn't reality. Obviously, any top will fall in real life so that is a very weak Totem unless it is simply the weight and balance of the top which you are focusing on to determine if you are in reality.
Yeah, I missed that the first time I watched. It was a good trick in plain sight since its her totem, he would have had his own but they treat that as his.
He stole Mal's totem and in fact used it against her!
this guy took an ending that is famous for being ambiguous and undeterminable and calmly says "its real" lol what
To be fair, I thought it was obvious that it's real the first time I watched it.
The totem clearly starts wobbling more and more until the camera cuts and there's no sign of it stabilizing again even though the table it's on is smooth.
Neel can be so confident yet be so wrong sometimes.
8 hours sleep would give you 96 hours which is 4 days dream time
You have to see Tenet. Nolan did a beautiful job on it. It has John David Washington, Denzel’s son, Liz Debicki an absolutely beautiful woman, and Robert Pattinson. It’s an excellent movie, a major mind f_k like Inception and Interstellar.
didn't understand tho
Waitin for dark knight triology
Movie sound is so soft cant hear anything
24:08 - 😂😂😂 got me rollinggg bruh
“WHAT”

An excellent film to react too. Great job guys
You need to see Moment. Seriously. You need to see it.
I loved this reaction!! One of my favorite movies!!
My favourite film of all time, great reaction, thanks guys
if you want more Leonardo DiCaprio, highly recommend Catch Me If You Can. but if you're looking for something with more action, give Baby Driver a shot.
In truth this movie was fantastic when I first saw it. I found it interesting how ideas and the origin of such an idea can change everything. Simple misdirection and suddenly you may change your mind about simple or drastic walks of life. Influencing is different from leading or suggesting, it’s more of a manipulative way to make others follow you around the chess board.
I appreciate that Neel admited that had seen it before!
Interstellar is gonna be amazing. My top favourite movie of all time
She locked her still totem away which shouldve represented reality. So as she does that, what she's really doing is throwing away the real world in exchange for the dream. Then Dom went in there and spun the top in limbo so it's going to keep spinning and locked it back in. The totem spinning represents the idea that she's in a dream as supossed to when it was still that represents the real world. He did it so that she would want to wake up and come back to the real world. What he didnt is that when she woke up, the idea is planted in her subconscious now and so she would think that she's dreaming even tho she already woke up to the real world
I think each totem has a unique property to it that lets you recognize reality. Cobb spins his or Mal's rather - if it falls then he knows it's real. Ariadne's chess piece is toppled down - if it comes back up she'll know she's in a dream. If a totem was a coin, youd probably flip it and if it was the side your subconscious wants it to fall on then you're dreaming but if it doesnt then you're awake. Idk what Arthur does with his die but that's my headcanon atleast.
1:41:00 You should watch every single one of his movies on the channel, at least everything except the dark knight trilogy... and if one of you haven't seen the TDK trilogy, you should be doing it right away....
last scene was suspense , to be in reality totem needs to be fall after spin, so it is uclear that he was in dream or reality
Faxxxx looking 🔥 as always
This movie is one of the best movies ever made
have you guys not watched 'THE WOLF OF WALL STREET'?
here is the plot twist, cobb is still on a dream
The ending is not real. James and Philipa are of the same age and wearing the same clothes and doing the same things in the garden when Cobb left them. Some years have already gone by since he left. Q.E.D--> He is still dreaming.
Nah it's real, you tripping
They’re wearing different clothes, & they are older. The children at the end of the movie are even played by different actors than the children throughout.
@@mistyxmarlboro Nah. Its copium.
