The point of the ending of the totem not being shown falling or not falling at the end of the movie was misunderstood by most people (including me). Nolan explained it. He said that Cobb (Leonardo Dicaprio) had only one motivation....to finally see his kids. So Cobb spins the totem, and then he is actually able to see his kid's faces. At that very moment, Cobb walked away because he didn't care any more whether or not the totem fell or not. His happiness was completely tied to being able to see his kids.

@@scottlepageslonglostson9640 I edited my original comment as to what the purpose of the ending was (according to Nolan). He says whether the totem fell or not is subjective to the viewer. Interestingly enough many characters that talk to Cobb make casual references that Cobb is "lost in a dream". Its a common talking point casually mentioned.

One thing that I find that most people don't talk about is how extremely profound the journey Robert Fischer embarks on in this movie really is. From Fischers point of view, he is on a spiritual quest in the depths of his own psyche. Cobb and his crew is like a bunch of angels sent by God to Fischer to guide him to salvation or inner peace and find some moral redemption for themselves in the process. Eames realises this immediately as he says in Mombasa "What you have to do is start with the absolute basic. The relationship with the father."
This movie is a goddamn masterpiece, and I will die on this hill.

There hasn't been any Nolan movie I haven't liked so far, but Tenet is easily the least interesting to me. It's not because of the complexity, Inception and Interstellar are also complex movies and both are all time favorites. It's because aside from the complexity, there's not much to it.
Inception deals with reality vs the perception of reality. It deals also with how we influence our loved ones (both Cobb with Mal and Fischer with his dad) and our responsibility in doing so. Cobb's love for Mal is undeniable, yet he kills her with it. The mixture of love and regret is relatable and gutwrenching, presented masterfully by Di Caprio and Marion Cotilliard. And that line at the end from Fischer to his son "I was disappointed that you tried" is so powerful. I could go on, so many powerful quotes in that movie.
Interstellar similarly deals with responsibility, but from parent to child. Cooper faces a choice of attempting to save humanity and leaving his children behind, or staying, knowing they will perish with him. It's the conundrum of every parent, balancing their responsibility to their children with the abscence caused by their dedication to work. And we know Cooper wants to go, he wants to be a pilot again. In the course of following his sense of duty for himself and his kids, he loses them entirely. All he has is left are recorded memories of the lives he missed. That scene cuts deep.
I left the cinema after Tenet with the experience of a thrilling action movie and interesting sci-fi plays on causality, but no deep philosophical questions.

As others have said, It doesn't matter if the top fall or stays up, either way, Cobb gets to watch his kids grow up and it will be real to him. If it's the real world, great. If not then the dream has become his reality and as the old make says in the place in Mombassa, who are we to say otherwise?
My take is this, Ariadne (whose name comes from Greek mythology after the woman who gave Theseus the clue that led him out of the Labyrinth) was performing Inception on Cobb to get him to forgive himself for his role in his wife's death. She was likely "hired" by Michael Caine's character. Note that whenever Cobb is in the dream he has his wedding ring on as a representation of his guilt (he doesn't wear it in the real world), but at the end, he's not wearing it because he has forgiven himself and moved on to be with his kids.
On another layer, the entire film is a meta argument that all films are like shared dreams.

But judging how spinning top behaves in real life, the spinning top would have stopped.

My perspective is that Sito was the target all along. that's why it opens with him meeting old man Sito first. that's why even after Leo gets caught he keeps reinforcing that he needs to know what's in the safe. think about it. why would you hire someone who failed to steal something from your mind to implant memories into someone else? and Sito having seen Leo's wife in the dream did his research after he came out. and knew that inception worked and lead to his wife's death.
"How would you like to go home?" those words are especially powerful because he's been using his wife's totem to keep her alive in his dream. but for Leo, his kids were the totem. he knew he was going to have to go to the subconscious level anyways. but also something that we tend to overlook. is that Sito got shot on the first level. he was feeling the pain from the gunshot on the second level for a week. and on the third level, he was feeling it for years. and at the subconscious level as he got older he felt that pain while growing old. Fisher wasn't going to destroy his father's company because he was better at it than him. because he made Sito a reflection of his father. and Leo gave his entire share to Yusef. because he was already getting paid by Fisher JR

So many ppl get hung up on the ending trying to figure out whether the totem kept spinning or eventually fell to see if it was reality BUT they forget it was never HIS totem so whether it stayed up or fell is irrelevant if you’re Cobb because either way you wouldn’t actually know if you’re dreaming or not which I personally thing he was the entire movie.
Also Cobb being the expert that he is would already know that he couldn’t use someone else’s totem so why would he continuously use it if he was in reality? We never see or hear about his totem ONLY Mal’s so either he’s a super genius who never needed to make his own OR he locked his away because he’s comfortably stuck in a dream and doesn’t want to know if it’s reality.

Big differences at the end is in Cobb's dreams, theres 3 things that are REAL and not a dream
    - His kids' faces, all the times we've seen them, its only their backs and not faces, so at the end its the first we've seen of them.
    - The grandfather is never in the dreams, Michael Knowles character is never in Cobb's dream, hes seen telling him to "wake up/come back to reality"
    - Once the person is dead, their totem holds no value, it can be reused by someone else. We've seen it fall and work as intended. So at the end you see it start to wobble meaning it WILL fall soon and thats his real world. But real or not, Cobb's always just wanted to see his kids again and he doesnt care if its fake or not, thats HIS REALITY, his kids.
Theres a video where Nolan explains all of this

In short, Nolan inceptionized y'all. The ring was never his totem so it would make no difference on how many times DiCapdio spun it (with his being the ring). Nolan continued to feed the idea into everyone by having DiCaprio play with it...

The ending is ment to be ambiguous, because it did wobble a bit, in the dream it stayed still all the way.
Secondly i think his wife actually had this totem in real life and she took it with her into the dreams, so he could have taken hers after she passed away in the real world.
Awesome reaction, you two are great, its honestly really rare for me to watch a reaction channels of couples or multiple people and actually really love to see the reaction of all participants equally =) keep it up you two!

Yeah the reason why the movie cut to black before the top tumbled is because Nolan intentionally wanted the ending to be unambiguous. It think it was a genius choice.

Another really good Leonardo DiCaprio movie(my favourite) is The Basketball Diaries
And though it’s a little hard to find I highly recommend it!
It’s from 1995 when he was only 19. It’s the true story of Jim Carroll, a high school basketball player(big shocker I know) living in New York in the 60’s who gets hooked on drugs and his life takes a huge turn. It’s heart wrenching, but god his performance is amazing.
    It also features Mark Wahlberg!
(sorry for what looks like an ad that I’m gonna post on other channels, but I feel not enough people know about this movie and reaction videos are a great way to get it out there)

Make it simple on the end. The father isn’t in any scene that not reality (as he commented the director told him so) Cobb only has his ring (his actual totem) on during dreams and it isn’t on in the last scene and his wife’s totem starts wobbling and a wobbling totem has to fall. Very simple, it’s reality

Please do continue the matrix films till 3. 4 is more an experiment that released last year and that requires enjoyment not of a film but of its concept etc. also covid reduced its quality and am sure not having both sisters helming the direction.

People debated the end for a long time, but the debate was resolved recently and the ending is definitely reality. Christopher Nolan told Michael Caine that any scene he's in is not a dream, and he's in the ending scene. As others have mentioned, the movie cuts before the top stops spinning because, for Cobb, what matters isn't whether it's reality, but that he can see his kids. Good thing for him, it's both.
