- This time up, we're introducing Toni to another Christopher Nolan classic, "Inception". I had seen a few of the scenes before and knew the story from friends but I hadn't seen the entire film so this was sort of a first time for me as well!

Dom is not dreaming at the end. You can tell because he doesn't wear his wedding ring outside the dreams. But the point isn't if he is dreaming or not, it's that he doesn't care if he is dreaming anymore. He made his peace with Mal and he wants to be with his children, so he doesn't even look at the top.
Toni followed it better than I did.
I was really paying attention! I knew I was going to be asked alot of questions at the end. 😂 -Toni
T - "I'm gonna be so confused". Took the words right out of my mouth. : )
I tried to pay attention though... -Toni 🤓
Well, She's Smiling😁so that's a Good Sign!👌 The last time I tried to watch this one, I got so confused trying to figure out what's what that it made my head hurt!🤕(LOL)
It was complicated and smart but definitely worth the watch. - Toni 🤓
The top wasn't his totem (red herring), so it has nothing to do with is he dreaming or not.
take a shot every time Toni says : " why is there...." lol
I might have to take a sip only..... not sure I would be able to function very well with a full shot. - Toni 😂
That whole scene in the hallway, it's sooo cool. Nolan is truly an incredible n super creative director, it's a mix of auteur, captain and actor's director all in one. This movie was so original and complicated but super entertaining and captivating.
Good job Toni for paying so much attention. It took me a few tries before i understood it completely.
Maybe Toni should watch Tenet, another Nolan movie and then she can explain it to me because i've watched it a couple of times n it's so confusing, trippy and so many other things hahaha
Great reaction like always, There are thrillers, and then there are thrillers. Gripping every second and couching its pages of exposition in the smartest way possible, this movie is original filmmaking at its finest i love Nolan movie. There are some fun-facts about it Christopher Nolan thought of the idea behind this movie when he was 16, and the script took him 10 years to write, Cobb's team used the French song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," which translates to "No, I Don't Regret Anything" in English, as a "kick" to signal that it's time to leave a dream. Translated in English, "No, absolutely nothing / No, I regret nothing / It is paid, done, forgotten / I don't care about the past," may allude to Cobb and Saito's recurring line: "Do you want to become an old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone?" The song is also a direct contrast to Cobb's inability to let go of his late wife, Mal. The cast and crew traveled to a total of six countries while filming this film the locations included the U.S., Morocco, Canada, France, the U.K., and Japan. Nolan's son Magnus played James, Cobb's son. Nolan also cast his cousin, Miranda, as a flight attendant. Joseph Gordon-Levitt said the scene in the hallway was both the most fun and the most painful experience he's ever had on a set. Arthur's totem, an object that signifies whether or not he's in a dream or reality, is a red pair of dice. When he shows it to Ariadne, the side with five dots faces the camera. In his dream at the hotel, the number appears several times. The hotel has at least five floors, and two "5" signs frame Gordon-Levitt several times during the zero-gravity fight scene. The license plates in Yusuf's dream were marked as "The Alternate State." The characters' dreams are filled with subtle hints that separate the subconscious from the real world. Though a minor detail, Nolan changed the cars' license plates to read "The Alternate State," dropping a hint that the action scene was happening in a dream. The scene between Cobb and Miles was shot at the architecture school at University College London, the university where Nolan studied English and met his wife Emma Thomas. Miles makes a reference to DiCaprio's role in "Catch Me If You Can." "Extradition between France and the United States is a bureaucratic nightmare," Cobb told Miles as he discusses his plan to return home to his children in the U.S. That line is a reference to his role as Frank Abagnale Jr., who gets arrested in France and sent back to the U.S. in the film "Catch Me If You Can." Keep up the good work.
14 years later and I can still hear the collective outcry of everyone in the cinema when the screen cut to black at the end. You both followed the plot really well! In terms of the combination to the safe- that didn't matter to the team, the important thing was to plant the idea of breaking up his fathers empire, 'extracting' the code from him simply ensured that he would question Browning's motives and would know what to put into the safe at the end to cement the planted idea to become his own man :) Thanks for another great reaction!
My head always hurts Tom, but this film made it hurt even more 😮
this gives me hope for other "great/deep" movies that Toni MIGHT actually like them and not just get hit by the sad lol
Tony, everyone dreams. You just don't remember them unless you wake up in the middle of one.
I guess I only remember the ugly dreams.... I'm glad I wake up from those and they are only dreams. - Toni 🤓
@@popculturallychallengedYou know, Toni, I only recently discovered that medications can give you "ugly" dreams. My dreams have always been like being in heavenly beautiful places, wildly in love with a soul mate, that type of thing. Then I needed a prescription medication and ever since I have nothing but the most horrifying nightmares. Really awful ones. I'm just telling you this in case you take anything you could look it up and see if there are any side effects like that. Best wishes.
The top was his wife's totem. He was spinning it to keep her alive. He only uses it after run ins with her. For Cobb, his children's faces were his totem. Since he was always away on jobs, this is indicated by Micheal Cain. Now the fun part. I fully believe Saitio was the target from the beginning. I do believe that Cobb was working for Fisher through the company he failed for in the beginning. Because it was an audition. Fisher is far more ruthless than his father because he has something to prove. Unlike Sito Fisher's first impulse was to end things as soon as he got the weapon. They go from having his uncle trying to use him. to him telling his uncle that he wants to make something for himself. the goal was to show Saito how empty his ambitions were while Fisher is inspired to create for himself. just watch the first 5 min again lol that's my take anyways
Seven months later.......
As Spock told Dr. McCoy tn the movie Star Trek, The Wrath of Khan when he mind melded with him giving him his Cotra,
REMEMBER....
PS: A must watch, JoJo Rabbit. A glimpse of WW 2 as seen through the eyes of a 10 year old. A dark comedy/drama. Worth the watch.
Thank you for the recommendation. We have had the movie recommended about 15 times and it's being pushed higher on the list. I'm sure we will watch soon. - Toni 🤓
The top fell. He’s home.
Shutter Island would be a good next film following this one
i predict lots of questions. lots and lots and lots.
Did I meet expectations? I think I was paying extra attention to this one. - Toni 🤓
You gotta do The Prestige by Nolan next
Your welcome 🎉🎉🎉
Please keep watching the scream movies. They get better as you go actually. I know they’re scary if your first time but now believe me they’re not scary to me anymore. I’ve seen them all several times.
I'm sure we will keep watching the scream movies in moderation... 😂 - Toni
When you're dreaming in a dream, does that mean you're not dreaming 😮???
I hope not. I hope it’s predicting the future. I just dreamt today we moved into a beautiful house with an amazing shower that could fit 20 people and a kitchen that I would have a view to the backyard, living room and dining room with a staircase to the upstairs that would be open and airy. And let’s not forget the entertaining pantry light that turned on every time I opened the door. It was a beautiful dream!!! - Toni 🥰
@@popculturallychallenged Well Toni, I do hope that your dream (dreams) come true.
Y'all should check out Shutter Island.
Definitely.
Please add “The Net” to the list!! It is soooo good!!!
The prestige is worth a watch!
Another Nolan movie that plays around with time...
Prisoners with hugh Jackman. Toni would lose it
Oh lord...
I like Toni too much to suggest that one. Great movie, great acting, but damn it’s hard to watch.
I've never seen this movie, so it'll be total spoilers for me.
Sorry Chris, hope you get to see the whole movie. - Toni 🤓
try Tenet...lol...that will completely flip your mind
I've never heard of it. I have added it to our list, thank you for the recommendation. - Toni 🤓
I highly recommend you to react to a live performance of the main theme (Time by Hans Zimmer) of this movie, it's here on youtube titled "Inception Soundtrack - Time | Hans Zimmer Live Performance", you'll be surprised.
Perhaps another Tollywood title like RRR...from the same director....
Bahubali...the begining?
@@FloridaMagwump I will check them out...thanks
At the end with the spinning totem yes it does wobble for a split second...but the big give away that cobb is still dreaming is that even though he sees his children and they run to him...both the kids are wearing the same clothes that they have always been in in the dreamworld.
That's somewhat what David thought too. He said they were wearing the same clothes. I thought the giveaway was the spinning totem. - Toni 🤓
No it wasn't a dream at the end. The spinning top DOES NOT MATTER at all. That was Mals totem...not his. His totem is his wedding ring. In the dream state he does not have it and in the waking world he does. Also in an interview with Micheal Caine the director told him that any scene with Micheal Caine in it was real life and not a dream.
But the spinning top still functions as a totem for Dom. The point of a totem is that nobody but you can touch it to know its exact weight and feel so no one can fake it in your dream. Since Mal died, Dom is the only living person who has ever touched it.
Him coming home to his kids was real, not a dream, but the point of the ending is that Dom doesn't care anymore if he's awake or not, that's why he didn't wait for the top to fall. He has finally come to peace with himself, his guilt and he's ready to live his life as it is
Both Dunkirk and Oppenheimer definitely must watch from the Nolan library
I dare to disagree.
The movie is coming up on almost 14 years old, not 10.
wow, really! David is slacking on his time tables.... -Toni 😂
@@popculturallychallenged Yeah, came out summer of 2010! But no worries, all the more impressive when you think about it. 😁
If you think that was a smart movie, do Tenet next for more Nolan mind fuckery lol.
"Tenet" made no sense.
Nolan had to violate his own "in-movie-logic", to make the story work.
That's an absolute no-no.
