Vložit
- čas přidán 3. 05. 2010
- 1A Auto shows you how to remove a front lower ball joint on a 2002 Chevy S10 Pickup Truck 4x4. This is the same procedure on any 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08 Chevy S-10 Blazer, 1998-04 S-10 Pickup Truck, GMC Jimmy or S15 Sonoma. You can diagnose a bad ball joint by raising the front tire off the ground while supporting the control arm. Then use a pry bar or 2x4 under the tire. Have a person move the tire up and down with the pry bar while you look at the ball joint for side to side motion.

Thanks for your videos . It always makes me a little more confident watching someone else do the same repair first . Again much appreciated
you guys literally had every video i needed to rebuild my truck. thank you so much, you have saved me more money than you know, i am a definite subscriber
you guys are good mechanics. I appreciate the videos you produce. You have helped me in many ways save time and money. Thank you !!!!
Thanks for watching. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Thank you, thank.....the local shop wanted 2,200 for this work on my Brazer..
Now I have all the tools, I am doing this work myself.
Now all I have them do is the alignment
Thanks a million!..
Thank you for taking the time to check us out, and helping to spread the word. Have a great day 1aauto.com
@midrew1 They are different but the top is usually easier. Support the suspension seperate the ball joint from the steering knuckle then swap it out of the control arm. If it has never been replaced then you will need to grind the rivets off.
@wtl1964 if it feels loose I would check the tie rod ends and all of the other steering components to see if any of the bushings are worn out.
Your videos are the best!! I'm about to install a gear box in my 1999 Chevy Suburban and I've watched ur demonstration numerous times, hopefully mines goes as well!!
+Xzavier CableGuy Glad we could help. Thanks for watching 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
You may want to inspect the rotor to see if there's anything touching it. Also check the dust shield to see if it's hitting the brake rotor which would also make a grinding noise. If you can't find the issue try jacking that wheel up off of the ground that's making the noise (turn the truck off, and chock the tires). Then turn the wheel by hand to see if you can here where the noise is coming from. I've have brake pad clips touch the rotor before and make a noise too. Hope this helps you out.
@screaminlemon Usually what happenes is that you may experiance a popping noise while you sharp turns with the vehicle. If you lift one of the front tires of the vehicle off of the ground and place a pry bar under it, if it easily moves up and down and you can hear it make noise. It would be a good idea to replace them.
@angrykorean We currently do not have an upper ball joint video on this particular vehicle. We'll keep this in mind during any future repairs that we might do to this type of a vehicle. Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel.
@wtl1964 I would maybe fix any other front suspension issues so that you only need it to be aligned once. If everything else is all set then you should be fine.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this particular repair. We'll keep this request in mind during any future repairs that we may make on this vehicle.
@boomack5000 We'll keep this in mind while doing any future repairs.
I usually wipe all of the oil off of my tools once the job's done, then put them away.
is this process easier for 2wd model? i dont have 4x4 so the the hub harness, the hub assembly or that dust shield thing dont really apply here correct? should be easier and more straight forward???
AWESOME !!! Thanks man for uploading, and for the deal I got through your online store. It really helped me out a lot. Thank you !!!!
+Ground Pounders Place You saved me 115.00
@crazytazzy101 HI at the current time we do not. Some of the basics may be the same as shown in this video. There could be a few added steps on your Astro van and a difference in the way some of the components come apart though.
@jbjbuild HI, at the current time we do not have a video that shows you how to do this repair on this vehicle.
Thank so much i really needed this infomation to help change my ball joints this video is very handy!!
do you have a video on a two wheel drive? or is it kinda the same?
We don't have a video on repairing the ball joints on a 1995 C3500. If you have a Chiltons or a Haynes manual for the truck, it should show you how to do this.
We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular repair. We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.
Thanks - this was very helpful and saved me big bucks
good stuff ... helped me alot with my xtreme blazer.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to repair the 2WD ball joints. The process may be similar to to 4WD one shown in the video.
Having some vibration coming from the front of my 01 Yukon Denali. Happens above 40mph. Have any ideas what it could be? Ball joint, etc! Thank you! Great videos btw!!
If the tie rod's stubborn you should be able to use a fork tool to split them. The upper one may have rivets.
Some of the basic procedures may be similar, we currently do no have an auto repair video that shows this process.
Thanks! With removing the tie rod, if it doesn't pop right now like in the video, is there something you can use to help it along?
Also for the Upper ball joint, that has rivets as well correct? Just remove them the same way as the lowers?
Very Good from Venezuela
Thanks, I appreciate the info you give. I'm one of those who learn by watching & this definitly helps.
@oompaboy85 It should be pretty close. If it's 2WD you wouldn't have the front axles to have to deal with.
You work like myself, instead of putting away tools after you take something off, saving time from having to go get them back from your box, you just leave them around the project. Much easier way to get things done.
You make it look easy,Thanks 👍🏻
+Mike Blake Thanks for the kind words. We hope the video helped. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
yes the lower ball joints are going to be the same between the 2.2L and 4.3L.
You could replace just the bad one, sometimes the other side isn't to far behind to go bad though.
You can do this without removing the brake assembly... just did uppers and lowers to a 2001 last week. ☺
You could try the dealer, they may be able to get them for you.
You guys are awesome thanks. I need to replace my lower ball joint ,outer tie rod ,idler arm and pitman arm. what order do i do that in ? Thanks again.
What happens if you forget that rubber ring on the hub? I must have cause it was on the ground when I was done and it hearing clunking over bumps on that side now
do you have to remove the wheel bearing if all you are doing is replacing lower ball joint? been some years since i have done one thank you
@bodyart3344 Not yet but I have a 2000 Blazer coming in and I'll do it on that truck.
If the axle nut has been removed you may need to bang it free from the knuckle with a sledge-hammer.
@2011blueandgold Have not filmed that. Added it to the to do list but sorry that does not help you now.
The issue could be with several different things. You will want to bring it to a mechanic to have them fully diagnose the issue.
Can you do a video (if possible) for a ball joint replacement for a 1st gen S10/Blazer? It would be helpful. Thank you.
Do you guys recommend replacing the wheel bearings while doing this to a customer? I've been through 4 ABS sensors in 6 years with a 2000 Blazer myself.
I need to replace the lower ball joint on my gmc 1500 4wd sierra have you done a video on this and is the fact that it is a 4wd make it much more difficult?
Thanks
Is this one of those things that you would want to do both sides at the same time? or would it be fine to just replace one side
When they become worn they should be replaced for safety reasons and it'll also help to prevent premature tire wear.
@kosmosleha Glad we could help. We carry those ball joints on our website 1aauto.com for less than what you had paid; we offer FREE SHIPPING too on all of our parts.
This was a great video! I want to remove and replace the right and left upper and lower control arms with ball joints already in them on a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 L engine. Do you have any videos that would help me do this? I hope so. Thanks!!!
Yo replace the boot you have to remove the control arm from the knuckle to be able to slide it over the joint.
It depends on the condition of the bearings. If the truck has way over 100,000 miles on it and the original bearings do not look that great, it probably wouldn't hurt to change them.
At 7:07, on both sides when I removed this Jounce Bumper, they broke off. I replaced the ball joints and bushings, using the original control arm. WHERE CAN I FIND THE OEM JOUNCE BUMBER? I've looked everywhere. There is a similar control arm bumper for the lower control arm that MOOG makes...I'm wondering if I can use that.
Do you sell replacement upper ball joints for 2005 silverado's ? I've gotten mixed responces about whether or not it can be replaced.
Did you ever make a video on the cv joint for this truck? I am getting ready to order both the lower and upper and I want to replace them at the same time. Thanks
@1aauto everything seem ok its just feels loose and dosent drive straight so you think im set from here or?
I'm replacing top and bottom ball joints is there any different procedure on removing the top ball joint?
Can you post video how to change the transmission fluid for toyota turndra 2000? Greatly appreciate.
Great Video! Is it any different replacing the front lower ball joint for a RWD Blazer?
Cold you help me please, at 7:31, the "Bolt" where ur cold chisel is, on my car, I have no bolts, how to I take em off ? With a cold chisel and I hit on it ? thats all ? Thanks in advance.
You do not have to remove the wheel bearings for the 4wd vehicles. On the 2wd, the bearings are inside of the rotor/hub combo. You need to remove the rotors to access the ball joint.
Is this one 4wd?
@@jonahjohns988 yes. The cv axle in the front shows its 4wd
I have a 87 camaro are these steps the same for my car
Having a heck of a time removing the hub and bearings....any tips?
If i have to replace BOTH upper and lower ball joints does it matter which one gets done first?? Should one be COMPLETELY done and mounted back up before the other is started?? Please help!! Thanks!!
+Danny Herrera Thanks for watching! If they both need to get done then we recommend you do them all at the same time. If you leave half of them on there then it could wear out the other suspension components.
are these the same for 99 2.2 4 cyl?
im gana take my 97 jimmy to a alighmetn shop any ideas what i should change so i dont pay more than the 60 buck alighment price
I have a 96 S10... would this be pretty similar? ... if not what would be different?... i can't find any videos specifically for a 96... thx..
+Danny Herrera We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task.
would this guide work for a 1995 Chevy Blazer?
is there a video for the CV shaft?
I really wish you would do rear wheel drive cuz it's totally different then four wheel drive
I need to do replacement for honda civic 05, does it work similiar?
Thank you for watching. The process will be different on a Honda. We do not have a video for your application but will keep it in mind for future videos.

Hey, i need help. I got one Jeep Grand Cherokee 1995, 4WD, 6 cylinders. Why the New Lower Ball Joint won't stay in the hole arm? I try another brands and still the same. If anybody ever had this problem before. Thank you for your help.
They didn't mention that it was a 4wd model which has bolts/rivets on both ball joints. On 2wd models the lower ball joint is pressed in and is a pain to remove the old one then a pain to press the new one in straight.
does anyone Know know how the lower ball joints come out of a 1998 Z71? I can' t find anything useful on it's removal!
I've got to rebuild my whole front end but it's a 2WD. How is it different from the 4WD other than the axel and the location of the ABS sensor? It's not on the hub but on the dust shield from what the parts place said. I see someone else has this problem and they said the ball joint is pressed in. Is there any good video anywhere on this for the 2WD?
Love all your videos, very helpful, easy to follow and explanatory!
+Arkansas Man Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Are these the same steps for a 1990 Chevy Suburban?
Suggestion: Unless you're highly budget constrained and have lots of time on your hands, Don't waste your time removing the rivets. Go to 1A Auto and purchase an entire upper and/or lower control arms and be done with it. I found this video very helpful when I performed replacement of a ball joint but strongly suggest to save time and a lot of anxiety, buy the complete control arms. Also, do both sides either ball joint or control arm assemblies otherwise you will have alignment problems.
So I tried to loosen the nut on the top of the control arm and it snapped off...🤦♀️
How do I replace that?
Here's a link to part 2 of this video (if this is what you're looking for). czcams.com/video/Bccq_shSQBs/video.html&feature=fvwp&NR=1
So I have a 1996 blazer would it be about the same or slightly different?
It may be the same or a similar process, as them one shown in the video. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
It will be almost identical. Your axle nut will be secured with a cotter pin and retention cover (so remove the cotter pin & cover) and then hit the axle nut with your impact. Your brakes will be attached with two hex nuts and not (2) 18 mm bolts. The ABS harness will be attached with one of the bolts on the upper ball joint. The torque spec on the axle nut will be higher too.
What was the black rubber-covered piece? it kinda rivets smaller and smaller as it goes towards the engine, and the rod coming out of it goes up towards the engine. a clear picture of it is all throughout the last part of the video (9:30). Also, I am trying to diagnose a problem with my 96 s10 4x4. whenever i turn the wheel, a loud, obnoxious squeal comes out of somewhere in the right wheel well. I cannot place the sound, but someone told me it might be the ball joint. I am not too sure that that is it, as it kinda sounds like it is coming from the part i described above (but i have no clue what it is :/) any help i can get is very much appreciated.
Thank you for watching. I believe you are talking about the sway bar and the sway bar end links. The bushings in the end links wear down over time and can cause a noise. The End Link is to the right of the outer tie rod if you pause the video at (9:30) and the end link mounts near the bottom of the shock. If that's the case you can replace the end links and bushings. If you think the noise is from the ball joint you can jack up the front end and check to see if there is play. Please let us know how the repair comes out!

2008 f150 xlt v8 4.6 l have lots of screeching on windshield wiper blades. I have used the best and still does only in slow motion. Checked everything and only thing see is windshield has play on drivers side
Correction windshield arm
I find it easier when removing the wheel bearing to use a air hammer with the pointed end, put it in the hole on the end of the shaft and start hammering away until the bearing pulls off.
i dont have a air hammer
thx this works😀😄😆saves me ⌚and💵
Thank you for watching. Glad to be of help. Please let us know how the repair comes out! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
It came out great ☺😀😁😂😅
Do you also need to change out the upper ball joint?
While you're in there, if it looks questionable, it may not be a bad time to service it. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3383
how do you know if they need to be replaced?
Is the upper ball joint just about the same deal,? Is that why you didn't show it?
looking to replace a right upper ball joint on a 1996 gmc suburban 1500 4x4
Unfortunately we do not have a video for your application. We will keep this repair in mind for future videos. Thank you for watching!

Why jack the car up on the lower control arm? Also when or why would a wheel hub be replaced?
I have a question about my lower ball joints
There is alot easier way to do this, that is to just take the whole steering knuckle (spindle) right off the vehicle and leave the wheel bearing still bolted on. Can save alot of time and you dont run the risk of the wheel bearing being wrecked trying to get it to sperate from the spindle.
do any one know about a video for 2008 chevy lower ball joint removal 2 wd
Thank you for watching. Unfortunately we do not have a video for your application. We will keep this repair in mind for future videos.

I will said you guys have great videos but I order parts on line from you guys and I got 3 parts that doesn’t fit my truck 😪😪😪 and I didn’t got my lower ones pretty upset
+7OUTDOORS4LIFE The buck hunter Thank you for letting us know. We apologize you received parts that don't fit your vehicle. I am unable to pull up your orders with the information provided here so please contact us at service@1aauto.com or 888-844-3393 and we can assist you further. Thank you.
Nice.. Remove the entire brakes, use a screwdriver as a prybar, and bend the backing plate..
"You do not have to remove the wheel bearings for the 4wd vehicles. On the 2wd, the bearings are inside of the rotor/hub combo. You need to remove the rotors to access the ball joint." That seems pretty *important* ... and as per the knuckle? Just not sure is all.
thank you i was wondering i looked at mine looks like you can do it without removing all of that yes its 4wd
Is it the same for 1996 4x4 blazers also or is it different?????
At this moment, the closest how-to video we have to your request is for this vehicle, which is very similar to the one you have. The steps may not be 100% the same, but should contain an adequate amount of information necessary for accomplishing this task: +Carl Rivest
Thank you ! For the info and awesome videos !!
