- Hello everyone and welcome back to the Following a Freight Train series! In the third episode, we will take a look at Tacoma Rail train 101, known as the Hill Job. This episode marks the firs time as part of this series that we will be looking at a train and rail line that is no longer in operation. We'll start off by discussing the unique history of this freight train and the rail line it used, going all the way back to the Tacoma Eastern Railroad and the Milwaukee Road. After that, it's off to Tacoma, Washington to follow the train on a typical run south to Frederickson and return the following day. As always, let me know if you have and questions or suggestions for future Following a Freight Train episodes. Thanks!

This was a great video.
I do realize that research and narration adds considerable time to a video. At the same time, hearing about the locations and history of the areas you visit around the country, especially the West/Northwest, adds so much more. Nice work as always.
When I lived in Seattle, I would visit Tacoma from time to time but never took the time to get any Tacoma Rail video. Thanks for bringing this to us.
Love this series Mike, thanks for doing it. The evesum was super interesting as its local to me. The details and explanations are amazing
Well done, Mike! This video perfectly captures how it felt to watch the train go by as I grew up, the early mornings especially. I’ll never forget those chaotic chases!
Many thanks, Alex! I'm glad I could do the train justice!
@@CoasterFan2105 I thought the P4 stood partial tier 4 locomotive. Didn't know, the middle axles, didn't have traction motors.
Tacoma Rail.😂😅@@CoasterFan2105
I was with the NRHS back in June. We went up to Tacoma Rail. I was talking to an employee who said the ACes they had were crap. They had traction motors that needed to be changed yet they said they would sell it.
I have never seen red and black and white trains before still very cool
Thank you for all your videos! I watch them with my toddler most nights!
Tacoma Rail sure does a good job. I like their horns and bells. Tacoma Rail is nice.
It's a neat operation! Thanks for watching!
Great job
Yes, please make more episodes of Following a Freight Train!
Happy Friday always with you. 🙂👍🏻💖
Happy Friday!
Thanks for posting this. I used to love to see Tacoma Rail trains on my way to and from work. I am sad to learn that it may be out of business.
Great video. No happy ending to a railroad ending service.
Awesome video! Thank you!
Nice video Excellent my friend awesome capture Like 👍🏻 And Greeting 😊
Amazing video!! Good to get these awesome shots of outstanding and hardworking Tacoma Rail ACe’s.
Great vid along with your well reaearched commentary
Nice....
Thank you!
Now feels like the appropriate time to post this one
Glad you agree! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Say good-bye to Tacoma Rail.
I think I saw somewhere that the two SD70ACe-P4’s were sold to the A&M, but I could be very wrong on that.
Thanks for watching!
Yup! I mention that toward the end of the video.@@stampycatfan01lol
@@CoasterFan2105 Okay 👌! Bye
Fantastic video and fabulous catches
Many thanks, Evan!
@@CoasterFan2105 No problem
Tacoma has lost so much charm over the years, first the Progress Rail Facility now the Frederickson, Tacoma has become somewhat dead to me
Nice video of Tacoma rails
Thank you!
Cool video ... Love the EMD's in notch 8 ... Good luck with new series ... I'll be tuning for more.
Nice Video!
🌹☘️🇮🇳☘️🌹
Thanks!
Great job Mike 👍
Thank you!
Excellent video!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Oh, I didn’t realize that the Train talk doesn’t showed up yet. Because the schedule was changed, I’m sorry, but good job on the video of following a freight!
Thanks! Train talk was delayed by one week because it took longer than expected to put this video together.
@@CoasterFan2105 I understand now, thanks to you!
The train is early Christmas of Tacoma, yes!
Great video.
For next one I want to see the videos of Amtrak cascades trains in 2003
great
I railfan in Tacoma and I always thought it was a gold mine for trains because I would see Bn painted colors on bnsf locomotives and old switcher engines
Yes! Yes!!
Great footage! Too bad this rail line is no longer in operation
Ill miss the hill job. As a railfan in Tacoma, the hill job was my life. Amazing video Mike!
Many thanks! I miss it too. I'm glad I was able to put a complete video together documenting the train.
Tacoma Rail isn't dead. Wikipedia says it's still active
It's sad to see this railroad decline. Nice video btw!
And the last one is Amtrak Pacific surfliner trains in 2003
I wish that the eastside freight railroad still operates
Dont know much about trains, but i'dalways see that red and white Tacoma Rail sitting on the rail parallel to I-5 in DuPont.
R.I.P hill job 101
Coasterfan2105 train chasing!!!
Indeed!
super nice vid, thank you. I always wondered why the passenger trains were re-routed up the orig NP Tacoma line in the gulch there. Just seems like it would have been way easier to daylight that one little tunnel near Point Defiance and double track it than redo that whole interior line plus they lose all the awesome water line views....
Sata Andagi!!!
Here’s another video request
Do the video of Amtrak trains in 2010
MERRY "EARLY" CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE ! ! 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅
Thanks, Kev! You too!
Why not do trains in 2005? I enjoyed the trains of 2003. Then 2004 and 2005?
Here is another one
Do NCTD Coaster train in 2003
Hey Mike, I have a request. Can you go to San Francisco to see if the Caltrain 919 Wreck is still there? Much love btw.
👋 Mike, can you make a video of your footage of the Mount Rainer Scenic 🚆 from this year?
Trains interest me on how complex and big they are
They're definitely interesting machines!
When will a video of all the footage you have of atsf 3751 come
Well the new SD70Ace😅
I would love the arlinton WA local
What video camera did you use?
This was filmed with the Canon XF400.
@@CoasterFan2105dose it do 60 fps
Yes. This video plays in 60FPS at the higher quality settings. @@TYR-RailFan
@@CoasterFan2105 do you use a separate microphone? I’m trying to make the perfect camera setup I’ve been watching you videos for years you inspired me to become a RailFan I’m 13
I sincerely hope that the Mount Rainier scenic rail is going to continue to run I would hate to hear that the line North of Eatonville would be abandoned and ripped up that’s the Mount Rainier scenic railroad’s only connection to their outside world
Mount rainier scenic railroad has plans to expand to eatonville in the future they would have to go north to Frederickson to turn the train around so nothing will probably pull up
If it’s not hard to film at night can you do the San Diego locals like the SDIV down the MTS Blue and Orange lines or the Miramar and Escondido local
I can look into it the next time I'm down there. From my memory the SDIV El Cajon run is between 1 and 4 in the morning.
Very sad that they don't operate anymore, very sad.
Ready for 2024?!
1998.
I am from California.
I love sd70ace good work Mike welcome to Ukraine but you can not go to Ukraine because you know what can happen!
Thanks for watching!
